Why are oldtimers so unwelcoming to newbies

NameChanged123 · 01/03/2006 14:26

I am a new member of mumsnet and was really pleased to find it. Unfortunately I have found that most of you oldtimers aren't very welcoming to newbies. Everytime I post on a thread I get ignored, you oldtimers only reply to each other. Sometimes I post on a thread and it just stops all together. I just think it would be nice to make newbies feel more welcome

You could start a newcomers clique and ban old and medium timers from entry.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/03/2006 18:49

Oh yes and as for threads you have started not getting many replies and fizzling out, the answer to that is to keep bumping it up, keep responding to whoever does reply to you, and that way your thread receives more attention.

alliebaba · 01/03/2006 18:49

there is a lurkers and newbie thread, they feel safe there, they don't post anywhere else god love em...

ChampagneandNappies · 01/03/2006 18:59

Helloooooooo I'm a newcomer - it's great reading all of this with my nice glass of wine as it's 7pm! Keep up the entertainment - fab!

Boopert · 01/03/2006 19:21

SoupDragon · 01/03/2006 19:45

can you find the "does water gush out when you get out of the bath" thread whilst you're looking for pirate pillow talk?

Flip · 01/03/2006 19:46

PMSL!

Is there really a thread about that?!!

alliebaba · 01/03/2006 19:48

do i need to ask where it gushes from?

Gloworm · 01/03/2006 19:48

why are there somany newbie/oldie posts all of a sudden!

and u'd love to see that "water gush" thread Grin

SoupDragon · 01/03/2006 20:06

It'll be impossible to find the thread because I think it was started by Cod so none of the words will be typed correctly and therefore it's impossible to search for it.

cod, was the pirate sex person sincere? Did their DH really do all that? Or was it all a (very funny) pisstake?

nursetigger6 · 02/03/2006 00:00

I am a newie, posted a message of help on two threads, had a couple of replies of help and advice, got what I needed and I can't thank the helpful folk of this website enough! I just hope they post after I have submitted to other threads on this website! Many thanks to the folk who helped and fingers crossed for others who are still experiencing problems.

expatinscotland · 02/03/2006 00:02

NQC
Who cares? It was one of the funniest threads on here, although I'm inclined to think it was a pisstake.

Baby pasta, anyone? :o
