Have ds who is 20months, he's called Sonny and had wanted that name for years and totally love it. In other words, when I was pregnant I knew what I'd call a boy but if we had a girl there wasn't a name I 'loved' enough to have IYKWIM. I'm planning to try again soon and I take ages making decisions so thought I best start this now

One's I like so far............

Girls Lola Lila Isla Ellie Summer Boys
Louie
Theo
Charlie
Levi

just looking for the one!

i grew up with unusual names so have made a point of not inflicting one on my daughter, the name sarah popped into both our heads when i was about three months preg and we loved it, middle name is abigail in case there's tonnes of sarah's in her class at school!

someone made a very good point, your childs name will only be a childs name for about 16 years (less these days) and you have to imagine an adult being called it, how would levi sound in an office? and what sort of woman would have the name lola or summer? you're not naming a doll, you're naming a person!

wonderwomanxx · 25/02/2006 23:12

i like celestine for a girl and celeste for a boy! just to be awkward!!!

wonderwomanxx · 25/02/2006 23:12

oh lockets wonderwoman is cyan!!!

Try www.babynames.com you can search for both boy and girl names by alphabet.
Girl's name Amelie

leggymamba · 26/02/2006 10:20

Lockets- don't envy you trying to find another name. We used our two names (one boy one girl). At a push our ds was going to be Lilia is he was a girl.

Do still like that - he would have been Lili for short.

How about Jorma (pron Yorma) for a girl or Jana (pron Yana). Also friend's dd is Rowan, which is quite pretty. Heidi? Naomi? Marnie?

Nbg · 26/02/2006 20:37

Lockets, I have got Celeste as a fave too

I also like Meredith.
DD is Madison.

2 of my other top faves atm are Bibi/Bebe and Kiki.

Boys
Lars, Sterling, Max, Reuben.

eve2005, I do realise that names do not just last until you are 16 or whatever. Obviously if someone likes the name Levi, Summer or Lola enough to call their child it then they have clicked on to the fact that it will be there for life.

And TBH, there must be Sarahs, Janes and Clares around that are not nice people and equally there must be Summers, Lolas and Levis that are sucessful business-people IYSWIM?!
I don't mean that to sound bitchy it's just that I think that it's obvious if a person has a nice enough personality that is what matters in life.

There will always be people with unusual names that wish they had a plainer name and vice versa

and

there will always be people with unusual names that love having them!

Only thing is that the new kids film out atm is Lars the Polar bear isn't it?
Not that it really bothers me.

Just have to get dh round to my way of thinking with the names. He's not convinced on the boys.

Luckily me and dp both loved Sonny but for a girl he likes Nancy!!! And my Dad does too it must be a man thing

I really want Lola, Isla or Ayla now I think, but it's typical, dp isn't keen!
