jampots · 12/02/2006 23:40

i never get anything, no card or pressie or flowers or a meal or drink. Obviously goes without saying that I shall not be bothering either.

JoolsToo · 12/02/2006 23:43

OMG!!! - haven't got Mr Joolstoo's card yet - I've been soooooooooooooo busy!

tomorrow, tomorrow!

pacinofan · 13/02/2006 08:22

I absolutely hate the commercialism linked to Valentine's day and have told dh under no circumstances is he to waste money buying overpriced cards and flowers just because the rest of the world is doing it.

He buys me flowers anyway, last week he came home from his travels with a kilo of fresh Paremesan straight from the deli in Venice, much more up my street! Oh, and he does his own cards too with great 'photos on the front and his own words - make me cry every time!

fastasleep · 13/02/2006 08:27

We're just getting cards.... I got him a really funny one, which he'll either love or be a bit disappointed that it isn't romantic!

(I have something up my sleeve, but it's not a present! And I hope he doesn't get me anything either as we're skint toooo)

Flossam · 13/02/2006 18:57

DP has discovered my card at his parents. And has now started to ask questions about if I'll be in tomorrow... I really don't want flowers! They always cost sooo much money for what they are.

Me
I told DH not to bother
And he didn't - stupid man

7777777 · 13/02/2006 19:56

im single so i wont be getting anything

WigWamBam · 13/02/2006 20:04

Dh has just gone out to Asda because "I forgot there was something I need to get for ... you know".

I told him I'd rather have nothing at all than something bought in desperation from a supermarket but he's gone anyway ...

He will be just the same for my birthday later this month; he only gets a years notice of the date, after all [sarcastic emoticon]

Elf1981 · 13/02/2006 20:20

Me and DH never buy pressies for Valentines, just buy each other a card. I've got his and I've seen the Clintons bag with mine in, when I'll get it, I dont know!
We dont buy each other anything for Anniversary either, just a card then too. We just get something special for each other on birthdays and Xmas.

CoolTurkey · 13/02/2006 20:30

Yeah but isn't the whole point of Valentines Day is that it is for secret admirers?
7s is be the one who should be inundated with cards and flowers. Not that I ever got a single one all the years I was single

CoolTurkey · 13/02/2006 20:31

Or in my long marriage for that matter.

Rhubarb · 13/02/2006 20:45

Dh doesn't celebrate this. I even did a thread feeling sorry for myself. I was going to do something really nice for him but then realised that if I did that the only person who would feel special was him, he wouldn't take that as his cue to do anything for me. In fact, he'd probably moan about it.

I hate men!

MrsMills · 13/02/2006 20:47

Closet lesbian Rhubarb ?

Rhubarb · 13/02/2006 20:51

Just tracking down your location now MrsMills, there should be a knock at your front door any minute.........................

This is why I have so many affairs you see, cause the hubby is an unromantic shite!
You're right though, women would never forget special days or believe you when you say that you're not bothered!

MrsMills · 13/02/2006 20:54

But would there be any mystery in the relationship? I like to keep DH on his toes guessing what I really mean when I say stuff, if he was a woman he would just know, where's the fun in that? IYKWIM

sweetkitty · 13/02/2006 20:55

me DP and I hate valentine's day! think it's too commercial and just serves to make men buy women naff gifts.

our anniversary is next month and we always do something special for us and give each other cards and presents then as it's our special day

Rhubarb · 13/02/2006 20:57

Unfortunately dh doesn't even bother guessing, he just reads whatever he wants to read in whatever I have said.

I suppose he does have a dick though. That's all there is useful about him really, and even that's in retirement atm!

Rhubarb · 13/02/2006 20:59

sweetkitty - it doesn't have to be commercial though! Dh once made me a card - when we were going out of course! We never send cards to each other or the kids, we make them (correction - I make them). Presents could be gestures, like brekkie in bed or so on.

Kayleigh · 13/02/2006 21:00

dh very unlikely to get me even a card as he says he hates the commercial aspect of the whole thing. Although on our very first Valentine he had a dozen red roses sent to my office.
I've just put his card in his coat pocket so he'll find it in the morning. Can't bring myself not to buy him one, and hate myself for wanting him to buy me one when he does do other stuff at other times of the year. Pathetic huh !

crazydazy · 13/02/2006 21:05

Its just the romance though kayleigh that us women love - men just don't get that.

Although saying that I have bought him a card and hope he's bought me one.

KBear · 13/02/2006 21:07

DH said to me today "we're not doing Valentines are we?"

I said "no but feel free to express yourself with spontaneous romantic gestures any time".

He laughed.

Still crazy after all these years.....

Once a Valentine sent me a huge bouquet, a big padded card in a box and ordered it all the way from the Falkland Islands. That's lurve for ya. Should have married him......

SPARKLER1 · 13/02/2006 21:10

DH went to Manchester yesterday for three nights on a course. After he packed his going away bag I slipped in a valentine card between his shirts for him. Have spoken to him on the phone tonight and he hasn't said anything about it.
I've dug around the house and haven't found anything left behind for me.
