wow! nice to see a thread in the sports section that hasn't died after less than 10 posts !

Chapsmum - we live just outside Zurich. Its great, we have paths through the forest and along a river where we can safely go cycling with ds in tow! We only moved out of Zurich in October so still got lots to explore!

Its great here for road biking as well, plenty of flattish roads, lots of cycle lanes and (my love when I am fit enough) hills and mountains also within a short cycle ride from home!

We go to the Gstaad region for skiing and mountain biking, but only because dh's parents have a holiday appartment there. But there are endles options in Switzerland for moutain biking and the snowboarding goes without saying...! The Gstaad ski region also has good children areas for learning to ski. Switzerland is quite well set up with lots of marked routes, cycling maps and books. they are big into cycling here, loads of road and mtb races and triathlons as well.

chapsmum - sorry you were lonely at teh weekedn, I didn't have time to drop in an chat. Wow, lucky dp! Where was he mountaineering?
Did you get your bike sorted out?

I had new suspension fitted on my bike at the end of last summer, the guy (a friend) messed it up and I haven't got if fixed yet, everytime I look at my bike I feel like crying , I think the forks are too big for the bike. I WILL Take it to the bike shop on saturday!

On a happier note, I'm going to work a half day tomorrow and go snowboarding in the afternoon :O:O:O:, how cool is that!

Oh, and there is a link on the link I sent you which gives you a website with Swiss bike trails.

chapsmum · 14/02/2006 23:15

Thanks for getting back to me,lucky dp is training to be a winter exped trainer...
I built my bike from frame so its not a probelm to get it sorted, just a problem to stop the chap from playing with the dot oil

Link was fab, we are seriously considering it as our honeymoon destination.

Am on hand to offer fantastic advice about suspension, what frame/forks have you got???

OP posts:
leogaela · 15/02/2006 13:42

The forks are Rock Shox, I have to look at home to see which model they are, but they just look too big and he cut the post to shorten it so i can't send them back and maybe not sell them either . the handlebars are now a lot higher than they were before. He also didn't put a ring around the bottom where the frame sits on them so they rock. The guy used to wrok in a bike shop and he built my bike for his wife so I thought he would know what he was doing, but his mother was dying at the time so he was a bit distracted. I forgive him... ! I guess I have to get them fitted correctly and then try them.

Oh the in my last post was supposed to be !

leogaela · 15/02/2006 13:43

The frame is a ghost, also have to check the model and size when I am home.

chapsmum · 15/02/2006 18:24

hmm check it out and let me know...
Do you have straight or riser handel bars?

OP posts:
chapsmum · 17/02/2006 20:22

Have you all given up and taken to public transport instead??
Wouldn't blame you in this weather its a bit nippy!!!

OP posts:
leogaela · 21/02/2006 08:44

Hi Chapsmum, I have straight handlebars. I did manage to check what the forks are, but didn't get a chance to come on Mumsnet and have now forgotten , but I've just checked out the rock shox website and can't see them there. I also don't remember what my frame size is and its not marked on it (pregnancy mashed my brain!). When I get round to it I will take a photo of the bike and I think you will be able to see that it just looks wrong.

Are you doing any cycling at the moment? I am quite keen to get out on my road bike but don't really have the right clothes for the endless cold weather we are having! We go snowboarding the first week of March, after that the summer can start !

chaps · 22/02/2006 14:26

bobbybobbobbingalong · 24/02/2006 02:30

Don't do the break your neck going down hill really fast stuff, but do go into the forest and thrash around the tracks. Am very lucky to have the forest across the road, and a 3 year old personal trainer behind me saying "faster mummy faster - I want to see the laaaaaaaaaaaaake".

chapsmum · 24/02/2006 21:57

am very nervous about tomorrow, have completely lost my nerve and the girl I'm going with is a whippet, I have twice as much lycra than her covering only half of me!
Will let you know how it goes if I'm still alive

(touch wood and keep you fingers crossed etc for me...)

revoltingzebra · 26/02/2006 13:53

there is a kid bike email list... my email not working right now, but will try to find a link. For parents who still cycle.
Kleggie, have you seen the Norwich meetup thread ?

leogaela · 02/03/2006 08:09

Fantastic Chapsmum! Great to hear you've got your nerve back! It looks as if there is some really good biking to do in Scotland.

Still not considering getting on my bike yet (and I still haven't got around to taking that photo or my bike!). we've had a load more snow here in the Zurich area and temperatures are still well below freezing. Next week we are off for a week to the mountains, hopefully do some snowboarding :)! And even more hopefully the sun will come out and it will warm up a bit!

When were you thinking of having your honeymoon?

chapsmum · 02/03/2006 17:16

hello my dear, long time no see. Well if we manage to save a lot of money we will do a june hol to nz for some boarding, if no we will take a buget family holiday and they wait for winter and till the chap is a bit older whicch at the moment seems like the most likely thing!
The runs are open in north scotland and me and dp are thinking of taking a wee trip for some boarding action next week!!
hope you are well and make it home tonight, maybe it a skido(sp?) and not a bike you need!
