We have played with Eve / Evie for the new bubaloo but it's just not sticking, something is preventing us both for going for it, and I don't know what / why. Perhaps we'll suddenly feel it and go for it, but maybe not.

Other contenders are:

Lauren
Amelie

Last night D said he really liked the name Saskia, I'm not so sure.

It has to semi go a bit with Carlotte / Lottie (our eldest DD) and her last name begins with M and you makes a 'moy' sound.

Any comments on the names we have thought of and any other suggestions?

Or Juliette? (Letty and Lottie would be great!)

vickiyumyum · 02/01/2006 17:49

victoria is a lovely name and as some have suggested much nicer when not shortened! (i may be biased though) my name is never shortened to vicki, except in my mn name, my family and close friends call me Lou!!

but ther girls names i like are Katie (trying to decide on this for our baby due in march, but dh said should call it Katherine and then shorten it to Katie, which i am not keen on as my friend at uni is called catherine and don't want her to think i have named the baby after her!)
India - dh has vetoed this one though.
and thats about it, not very good with girls names i'm afraid.

Yes, I know Barbar is an elephant!! You nanas!
I said I like Celeste, MI demurred on account of Barbar and Celeste and I said I liked Barbar and Celeste (the extremely charming books and characters) but specifically pointed out that I would not consider naming a son Barbar. Now, is that clear? {grin]

Children are just vile though and will torment some kids whatever their names are. Provided you don't actually call them Penis and Poo-Bum you are, IMO, exempt from blame for this regrettable phenomenon.

motherinferior · 02/01/2006 17:57

When I think about it I frequently use the endearment Babar

harpsichordcarrier · 02/01/2006 18:00

damn and I had my heart set on Penis is I ever had a son
a fine upstanding name

motherinferior · 02/01/2006 18:01

Nah, you're just clinging to a long-standing fallacy

Love Lola, had a baby at work recently who was Lola, problem was every time the name was mentioned we all broke into a chorus of "Her name was Lola, She was a showgirl..." (Barry Manilow, Copacabana, in case I'm too obscure)!!!
Love Felicity, Verity and Ruby too

Enid · 02/01/2006 20:13

oh god now I hate all girls names as well as boys names

Think I will call my baby Enid if it is a girl and Cod if it is a boy

CountessDracula · 02/01/2006 20:14

oh no Lola reminds me of the song about the tranny

Nina I loved and wanted to call dd but dh said it sounded like an ambulance siren

I adored Louisa and so did dh so that is what dd is called! Beety I love Mary too, that is her middle name

katetee · 02/01/2006 20:16

I love all these great suggestions, but my personal favourite has to be Freya. She was the Norse Goddess of Love and Beauty. It is so difficult though as most of us have suffered in some way with our names, I used to get "what did Katie do next" and other rubbish, my youngest dd is Ellis and she gets told its a boys name and her surname starts with a T, so she gets called an alien. You gotta go with what you love. Good luck

Enid · 02/01/2006 20:18

freya = dogs name

sigh

mummytosteven · 02/01/2006 20:21

I like Amelie, and Stella that have been suggested.

Also like:Madeleine, Rosalie, Adina, Leila.

mummytosteven · 02/01/2006 20:23

Lola makes me think of Charlie and Lola

Not keen on Stella - reminds me of Stella Artois. I work with too many blokes who drink pints of the stuff.
Like Madeleine, Eve, Matilda (Tilly), Lucy and also OT names like Miriam, Esther ....

WideWebWitch · 02/01/2006 20:37

Oh OK Aloha! I had only skimmed the thread, missed the finer nuances, obv!

Thomcat · 02/01/2006 20:53

I typed such a long response and I've lost it [pissed off face]!

Going through this thread with D now.

Thanks everyone

Well I listed my favs from your suggestions and D circled the ones he really likes so our shortlist is now looking like this:

Lauren / Lauryn
Amelie
Nina
Josephine / Josie

but his favourite is Pippa.

Hmmmmm, gonna have to think about this one.
If we go for it I'll have to have Philipa on the cert so when she's a high flying business woman she can be 'Hi, Phillipa M..., nice to meet you' and she can Pippa / Pip to friends. I must say I like Pip for her, she suits Pip.

I'm still feeling Lauren, Lol for short.

I'm not feeling Nina though.

Still like Amelie and Eve /Evie.

And we both like Kitty but think it might be best as a pet name, not sure I can give her that to see her through her life.

God, she's just so gorgeous. D is sitting here holding her kissing her head and I think i might burst.

I think she might be a Pip????
She looks a bit like an Evie or an Amelie as well.

She just gets more beautiful each day.

Have friends who called their dd Pipiana - known as Pipi (said Pippi), which is also sweet. I thought it odd to begin with , but it's grown on me. Pip is nice.

one of my greatest friends is a philippa - pippa - pip - and it works so well, something for every mood/ level of intimacy. and it is unusual enough for any era/ though not totally difficult (which my name is, but that's another story!)

couple of my friends have both recently called their girls Violet - which i really recoiled from at first but is growing on me. very odd

mousie · 02/01/2006 21:49

oh, and my pippa has named her daughter Kitty..
