Endearing things DCs say wrongly that you don't correct

As in when they are tiny and learning to speak obv, not revising for Oxbridge entrance exam...

Mine are 'Larf!' for the note that follows 'Sew' in the song Doe a Dear, 'turk-noise' for turquoise, oh and she likes to eat a nice 'cereal bath' every so often. She has recently adapted 'Grandad' to 'Dadgrandad' having noticed I address him as 'Dad'. My Speech Therapist sister used to encourage her very early habit of saying 'moo' when she saw a dog because she found it hilarious, but I drew the line there...

Bit of indulgence for the weekend and I am sick so could use the distraction!

special-mint tea instead of peppermint tea
one upon a time when she's making up stories
crispy instead of frisbee.
grubs instead of gloves ( I think she's almost lost that one now Sad)

pastamouse · 10/09/2011 13:10

DS is 21mo, and a couple of my favourites are:

Coo-mum-mub (cucumber)
Shoomuh (hummus)
Mitahmottymatamoss (hippopotamus)
Seepee (sheep)
Tenticul (testicles)

...looks quite random when written down like that!

midwife99 · 10/09/2011 13:17

My DD aged 2 calls her sister Laura Wahwah & dinner is ninner & Grandma is Bummer! Funny thing is we all speak her language now which we call Delphic (her name is Delphi). Will be sooo sad when she changes!

Joolyjoolyjoo · 10/09/2011 13:17

I miss so many of the things that they used to say, but, like many of you, some of them have come into common usage by the rest of the family!

dd2 does still say "nused", as in "We nused to have a red car, didn't we mum?"

Ds is dinosaur daft, but he used to call them dicey-nors I still do, and he corrects me every time Sad

milkyways · 10/09/2011 13:27

DD calls "email", "A-mail"...the best is when she wakes up from bed and her hair is flipped upwards and messy, she calls the sticking out hair Bone Cows - she means "horns"!!

mo3d · 10/09/2011 13:27

I remembered another one.

My eldest called, 'finished mummy, come wipe my bum'.
I replied 'Oh lucky me' (sadly sarcasm is my default setting).
and she replied 'that was farcasm wasn't it mummy'.

I laughed for hours Grin

ElizabethPonsonby · 10/09/2011 13:30

From my childhood:
Cansarsles - sandcastles
Par cark - car park
Bscetti - spaghetti

Dd ( now 4) has had:
Belbow for elbow ( very cute when saying 'i banged my belbow'
Blutterfly

Godson had picked up 'fuck it' from his mum, she hastily changed that to 'duckies' :o

DirtyDessert · 10/09/2011 13:33

My DS called the car indicators omperscators when his was little
He is 20 now and still does Grin

pixma · 10/09/2011 13:39

"Only" "You were all on your own and only without me".

onebigchocolatemess · 10/09/2011 13:44

my eldest always asks for the story 'one little piggies' at night - goodness knows what the other 2 pigs did to deserve being knocked off the title

he also used to call sauce 'horse' and juice 'shoo' so when at dinner he would ask for some sauce and his juice it used to sound like 'horse shit mama'

he calls my computer 'bumputer' and instead of 'I' says 'my' my want some juice please mummy etc etc . He always argues when you correct him, insisting he is right....sigh...

Thumbwitch · 10/09/2011 14:05

DS is 3.9 but has grown out of some of my favourites now:
"jaffraff" for giraffe
"codjit" for chocolate
"hossage" for sausage

He still says "Buzz Likeit" for Buzz Lightyear and "sumping" for something and I'm sure there's another one but can't think of it right now!

oopslateagain · 10/09/2011 14:10

Loving these!

DD used to say 'underella' for umbrella (sensible really!)
aminal for animal
lellow for yellow
Dad-dad for grandad (she heard me call him Dad and mixed it up with Grandad)

If she was busy when I called her, she'd say "In a mimmit mummy", adorable and I was so Sad when she grew out of it!

RedHotPokers · 10/09/2011 14:11

DD (just 5) has grown out of most of them Sad, but still says 'chimley' and 'radilater' (radiator).

DS (2.5) says more things wrong than right, and I LOVE it! I will be gutted when my little baby has grown out of it!

Thumbwitch · 10/09/2011 14:27

Aha - got it!
He calls the slide a slideyride - this is because they're called slipperydips in Australia (who knows why, slide is so much easier and quicker) and he's combined the two and come up with slideyride - love it!

RedLentil · 10/09/2011 14:30

DD1 has a very precise, very English way of talking which means she's known as 'Lola' in our part of rural Ireland. Still, she's planning on living in Fran Sansisco when she's older and she really wants some Sanfranian family toys for christmas.

DD2 has introduced us to the 'toasterpopper' and anyone who wants me to go back to saying toaster will have to rip that word out of my cold dead hands.

LadyInPink · 10/09/2011 14:31

DD used to say:

Lotlot - chocolate
Ma - kiss; as is "I want a ma"
BishBish - biscuit
Pea tarpy - tea party (we still call it that and she gets annoyed and corrects us - she's now 7)
Ossapit - opposite (again we say this sometimes and get 'the look') Grin

Sure there's loads more but mind has gone blank.

Loving this thread though.

RedLentil · 10/09/2011 14:32

And Buzz Lightyear is known as 'Beyond' in our house because that's what DD1 though he was called. DS1 ran around the house for a year shouting 'To infinity and BEYOND!' Grin

IwoulddoPachacuti · 10/09/2011 14:39

My 5 year old DD always says she is going to give me a 'nice moustache on my soldiers' (massage on my shoulders Grin)

She used to always say 'basgetti bowl of maize' for spaghetti bolognese too Smile

Thumbwitch · 10/09/2011 14:40

Ah - love that - DS still says "To ninfiny - and Neyon!" Hasn't quite picked up the full phrase yet...

allhailtheaubergine · 10/09/2011 14:41

3yo ds enjoys a game of wubbly with his wubbly ball.

(Rugby)

Grin
Bearskinwoolies · 10/09/2011 14:44

My dd used to call lasagna - Bisagna, and blossom - glossom. Ketchip was dippy sauce, and any kind of fizzy juice was giggles, as it made her laugh.

My ds had loads, but the one that stands out (and we still do it to this day) is singing "Two turtledogs" instead of turtle doves in the 12 days of xmas song.

Oh and we don't have hugs or cuddles here - they're called Cugs - a two for the price of one thing. Smile

LordOfTheFlies · 10/09/2011 14:49

All sadly outgrown: Sad

Crocado - crocodile

Pakoota- computer

Veeyado- video

Glubs-gloves

Bobs -bulbs (we planted some bobs in the garden)

DD also said sniglets for cygnets Smile

Tonksforthememories · 10/09/2011 14:54

Ds (23m) says
Pop-pop for lollipop
Catin is what our cat's are called, from me saying 'lets let the cat in'
shoeon
coaton
shoeberries - strawberries
Widgey - willy
He can't say L's which makes 'clock' rather funny! :o

ronx · 10/09/2011 14:54

DS (3.5) says 'lellow' when he means 'yellow' and 'cupsiecake' for 'cupcake'.

Bearskinwoolies · 10/09/2011 14:55

Knew I'd forgotten one - feminine hygiene products are called 'softs', as my dd (about 2) had investigated a cupboard and found some; came toddling through with them stuck to her face and head, chuntering to herself about the "nice softs" she'd found to play with!
