Who's been called a troll at some point?

Just wondering as many people I see claim to have been, is it that widespread?

OP posts:

Have I just been dissed Crispy?

If so, could you be more clear in your disdain? I'm clearly suffering from "me too hun thickie-ness" as I don't quite get it. Also, I'm 42 and despite loving doughnuts (or any cake) can hardly be described as a little girl. Also. I fail to see the significance of the CRB part of your post (isn't it called PVG now?)

Do enlighten me.

Pagwatch · 16/08/2011 17:55
Grin

I am someones little friend. But I am not sure who it is.

Crispy could you be more specific?

ChrisPBacon · 16/08/2011 17:55

The best ones have been prepared a few days/weeks in advance posting a few things on breadmaker threads so they look real when people check

Then they fly off the handle in support of the sockleader. But its always kind of weird because they've shown no passion for anything other than bread recipes up to then.

Sometimes they cock up the name changes though. It happens rarely, but they are treasured moments.

ChrisPBacon · 16/08/2011 17:57

I was being nice and offering you & Pag a cake Shock
Not CRB any more???

In that case, cheers Crispy. Would you like some pear vodka to go with the cake?

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/08/2011 17:59

Hello Paggy, alright? Been on your hols? Not seen you about much ... but then I've just been on my hols myself so that could be the reason! Grin

All joshing aside, I think the serious point to be made here is that it really isn't such a big deal to be called a troll. If you run away and de-register because of it - then that's just daft. Or silly.

I don't understand why experienced forum users (such as Aitch's friend) cannot get being suspected of being a troll in to proportion. Surely it is entirely understandable?

StrawberryGateau · 16/08/2011 18:05

For me the problem bibbity was not so much the label (I couldn't care less on other forums) but the lengths some troll hunters when to track down the truth with google etc. I'd posted an lot of identifying personal stuff (I learnt) and I didn't want rl and mn to collide. Particularly comments about dh coming back that I'd made or affecting my work. I already was feeling vulnerable and it was scary.

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/08/2011 18:12

I'm afraid I don't really understand your post strawberrygateau, but am sorry if you've had a hard time.

Pagwatch · 16/08/2011 18:13

Oh. Cake.

Thanks.

Yes Bibb, hols. You weren't the woman to my right with the curly hair and the pissed off expression were you....

StrawberryGateau · 16/08/2011 18:15

pagwatch got it.

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/08/2011 18:16

Well ... it could have been me only I have dead straight hair Grin.

OracleInaCoracle · 16/08/2011 18:26

I was called a troll once when I mentioned that I had nced in honour of a new book. I told her my usual name but she carried on, obv didn't understand what a troll is. It did upset me, troll accusations are like chinese whispers and I've been here a long time and spend a lot of time on conception and mc. Don't want that wiped out by a twat with a grudge.

TheRealMBJ · 16/08/2011 18:33

If it isn't such a big deal to be called a troll, then why do people go to such lengths to prove that some one is one? The logic doesn't follow, either trolls are a bad thing or they aren't and if they are, it is entirely reasonable for someone to be upset to be falsely accused of being one.

OracleInaCoracle · 16/08/2011 18:40

TherealMBJ, exactly. For me, it was some idiot who just disagreed with em (no hassle, I'm a big girl and can take a bit of debate) accusing me of being a liar and as a knock on effect throwing into doubt all the posts I've made (some very personal) and the advice I've given.

AitchTwoOh · 16/08/2011 18:44

er. my friend posted something personal and was called a paedophile, a sicko, an evil cunt, a freak, a dirty old man etc etc purely on the grounds that she was posting on a Saturday night and hadn't expressed herself in a manner that was deemed acceptable, ie, she was hesitant BECAUSE she was unsure about how to phrase it (it was in fact just a fairly standard 'what do you call your dd's bits?' question) and the social work brigade on here tore her to shreds.

it was an appalling and vicious attack by a bunch of absolute bitches and the reason she has never posted again was not because she doesn't have things in perspective (how appallingly insulting) but because she never wishes to converse with those women again.

AitchTwoOh · 16/08/2011 18:53

and actually, as for troll-hunting being 'entirely understandable'.. no. i was horrified by the attack (on a stranger) when i saw it and went on the thread to say so. if it had been me, i KNOW i would have been shaken.

it was some hours later that my friend PM'd me to say it was her.

i think the realmbj has made some excellent points on this thread.

PinotsKittens · 16/08/2011 18:54

Macaroona, I was on that thread and just wanted to clarify that no-one laughed at you as ChrisPBacon says. That's not my recollection at all.

You had a disagreement with Chris, sure, but once you'd left the thread I didn't read anything mentioning you in a derogatory way.

HTH.

TheRealMBJ · 16/08/2011 18:56

I'm sorry your friend has such a horrific experience Aitch IMO troll hunting easily turns into a kind of mass hysteria, which is why it is best to stick to the Talk Guidelines and report and wait for MNHQ to deal with it. Perhaps PM a poster you think is getting duped.

(nb, place of sniggering wasn't specified to clarify what Pag said. She is correct that nobody bothered to mention you after you slunk off Smile)

Macaroona · 16/08/2011 19:10

I 'slunk off' to attend a funeral. Hope that's ok.

PinotsKittens · 16/08/2011 19:10

It was me that said it, Chris, not Pag. It is epically flattering to be confused with her though Grin

Macaroona · 16/08/2011 19:11

Chris are you inferring that people were laughing at me on Twitter, FB or irl?
