oh bugger!

was in france all day yesterday so didn't get a chance to post mine off. so probably none of us will get in then?

Earlybird · 05/12/2005 12:51

Any idea when we're likely to hear if we've got a place or not?

At this point, I'm assuming not, but keep hoping that somehow we'll get in. Would be such a good motivation to exercise, so much fun to do it with other mumsnetters, and wonderful to do it for such a good cause.....

SnowsyPosey · 05/12/2005 18:33

Originally they said new year but that was when they said closing date was dec 23rd, so they let us know sooner. But keep an eye on your bank statement to see if they cash your cheque (unless you donated your money whatever). Last year I knew about a month before I was offically informed of getting a place.

notasheep · 05/12/2005 21:19

Hope you lot are in training, all this walking we will have great thighs and bottoms!

Posey · 01/01/2006 22:24

So anyone know when we're likely to know if we've got places or not?

Earlybird · 03/01/2006 16:05

Hi Posey - and happy New Year!

I haven't heard anything yet, and am desperately hoping that somehow I was successful. I called the bank about 3 weeks ago to see if my cheque had cleared (clever suggestion from you!), but at that point, it had not. I am currently out of the country, and will be until 13 January, so can't/won't be able to call the bank/check statements until that time.

Would love to know if anyone else has had any news.

JoPG · 03/01/2006 18:29

Well , have started training since I got a place via the internet entry.
Eight miles last week, and another 8 mile run tonight. Good way to shift those Xmas pounds!

sammac · 03/01/2006 18:31

I've been inspired by you and have signed up to do the one in Edinburgh with 3 friends. Not started any training yet but hopefully next week.

Earlybird · 03/01/2006 19:31

JoPG - Have you had confirmation that your registration was successful? What method did they use to let you know?

Posey · 03/01/2006 20:21

Hi all.
Earlybird, hope you're having fun wherever you are.
My cheque hadn't been cashed by Christmas, but haven't been able to check since.
Don't know whether to try and get a Telegraph place.
Will try and get to the bank tomorrow to see if its gone through.

rummum · 03/01/2006 20:27

I've volunteered to volunteer.. if that makes sense!...
When will I know if we've been accepted.. (mother and I)

deenewyearward · 03/01/2006 20:37

So mad, spent three days, of my life trying to register, it kept crashing. Eventually had to get on and lo and behold it worked, and the walk was full. Couldn't print off as printer not working was so mad, then found out on Christmas day neighbour who isn't usually into this type of thing had registered through a friend. Oh did I mention ?

Going to try to do Telegragh but not holding out much hope! good luck to all who get in, may see you there

JoPG · 04/01/2006 17:30

EarlyBird - They decited the money from my account so I am assuming that I got in! I think I hear more this month.

OP posts:
Posey · 05/01/2006 19:33

JoPG - just looked at the website and says if the money has gone from your account then you have definitely secured a place, so WELL DONE! Official confirmation letters will be out at the end of January.
I have got to go to the bank tomorrow and see if my cheque has been cashed yet.

Imafairygetmeoutofhere · 06/01/2006 08:21

Morning!
Just wanted to say well done and good luck to those of you signing up for this. I did it in 2005 and it was an absolutely awesome experience.
Some words of advice:

  • You DO need to train - you can't put your body through a 26 or 13 mile walk without training
  • Train with the person you'll be doing the walk with - I trained, hard, on my own and did the walk with a friend who hadn't put as much effort into it. Ended up doing it 90 mins slower than my target time cos she kept needing to stop and it was really frustrating
  • Be as adventurous as you want with the bras - the whackier the better
  • In the end, I think it was the lack of sleep rather than the walk that I found most difficult
  • Walking around London at night and along the river as the sun rises is amazing, as is the feeling of crossing the finish line - I still get choked up thinking about it. I never thought I'd be able to do something like this, but it's amazing what you can achieve once you put your mind to it! I'd love to have done it again this year, but given that my due date is 13 May I'm opting out!!! Sorry - waffling on a bit there, but just wanted to give my tuppence worth!

Good luck!
K

Posey · 06/01/2006 19:28

I did it in 2005 too, and I know Marslady has done it too. A truly brill experience.
I did it alone. Know what you mean about wanting to go at your own pace and not be held back or feel you're holding someone else back. On my own I kept falling into line with people, had a chat as we walked, then they or I would go on a bit.
I trained pretty hard for it, and have kept up the Power walking to a certain extent. But I do need the threat (!) of an event to keep me disciplined.
I'm still waiting to hear. Cheque not cashed yet but not reading into that as they took about 3 months to pay in my sponsor money last year.

notasheep · 06/01/2006 20:21

Did it in 2001-alot less crowded and easier to get a place. My dp did it too!!!!!!

hoping to be a volunteer this year,so hope to meet you lot!

Earlybird · 13/01/2006 22:09

Back in the UK (arrived this morning), and at this point, my cheque has not been cashed. What about you Posey? Anyone else?

BTW, planning on wearing the pedometer again from tomorrow. Should we revive the Pedometer Club?

Posey · 25/01/2006 21:04

Really sorry Earlybird, completely missed your post. Hope you had a good holiday!

Still no cheque cashed so feeling a little pessimistic. Put in an application from The Telegraph too. Ah well should know soon as they're sending out letters end of Jan.

Haven't been wearing pedometer so much recently, just on "proper" walks as it gets in the way at work and I forget to put it on again.

Will meet you in Regents Park one of these days!

JoPG · 09/03/2006 21:34

Have just been contacted about my Moonwalk place, apparently I've got it!
Anyone else???

LizP · 18/03/2006 18:38

Jo - did you pay by credit card on line and if so do you have the card statement and know who took the money? I applied online on the first day and was sure I got a place for myself and a friend and the screen said something about thanks for the entry you will be hearing from us. Since not heard anything but my statement has a debit for WP-Naked Ltd, Staveley who I can't find for the right amount and day. So still think there is no place as surely would have heard but am wondering who has the money.

Posey · 20/03/2006 13:33

When I contacted them by email, they said ring Laura Turner in the moonwalk office on 01483 741430 to see if I had a place. Because mine was a postal application and therefore paid by cheque I can't help with the credit card thingy but the office would know.
PS I know you weren't asking me but saw this so thought I'd reply!

unicorn · 30/03/2006 15:32

Major Panic here... I have apparently got a place too...Got a letter today!!!!!!!!

I had given the idea up, so haven't even thought about training..

unicorn · 30/03/2006 20:37
