I have just signed up for the Playtex Moonwalk 2006. Anyone else fancy joining me?

OP posts:
MarsyChristmas · 02/12/2005 17:23

YES!!!!!!!!!!

Trust me! I've done the Moonwalk before. You don't NEED to complete it in that time. If you tick the slow box you'll get stuck in the crowd.

TICK THE FASTEST TIME BOX!

Cadeauxbury · 02/12/2005 17:28

Ok, have done it. Now got to break it to dh that I'm doing this. He'll think I'm mad.

MarsyChristmas · 02/12/2005 17:31

Good girl!

Let's do it! lol

It'll be fun.

Cadeauxbury · 02/12/2005 17:33

tell me that again when I wake up in the cold damp morning and none of my joints work!

NotHavingXmasInChicagomum · 02/12/2005 17:37

OK dh has just phoned to say he has done it for me so will fill it in tonight, (he said he assumed it wasn't the edinburgh one or were we planning to do a weekend trip up there - actually not a bad idea eh ).

MarsyChristmas · 02/12/2005 17:41

well done Chicago!

Here's hoping we all get through.

Now don't forget TICK THE FASTEST TIME BOX and we are called THE MUMSNET MOMMAS

NotHavingXmasInChicagomum · 02/12/2005 18:48

Bump in case anyone else is interested.

Reindior · 02/12/2005 18:55

Dh and I have applied. A clerk of mine (WW meetings!) and I originally wanted to have a team, but you all have to apply seperately. Yes, the on-line applications ran out on the first day, so I sent my postal appl. in today.

Earlybird · 02/12/2005 19:00

I'd be interested too.

Happened to drive by Hyde Park last year about an hour before the start, and it looked like a fun time and wonderful thing to do.

Earlybird · 02/12/2005 19:03

It's not letting me download the entry form - says "an error has occurred". Is this happening to anyone else, or is it my computer?

Earlybird · 02/12/2005 20:21

OK, got it printed off now. Will fill out and post tomorrow.

NotHavingXmasInChicagomum · 02/12/2005 20:32

A rahter cynical question, but if you put in the box yes for "if you are not sucessful in getting a place would you like to donate your entrance fee" do you think you are more likelyto be passed over as they will have too many applicants for the spaces anyway. Don'tmean to be tight, but now I've made my mind up, would really like to do it.

SnowsyPosey · 02/12/2005 20:58

Not sure NHXIChicagomum. I didn't donate it last year, the reason being I knew the cheque would be cashed before I got confirmation of a place, so once the cheque went through I knew I was in.
It really is a fabulous experience, one of the best things I've done. Walking along the Thames as the sun was coming up and crossing that finishing line in under 7 hours. Am aiming to knock 30 minutes off this year (if I get a place)
It really is important to train for it. I didn't feel anything, it was like a walk in the park for the first 15miles and I know thats down to the training.
Good luck to everyone that applies!

Ps can I just give an alternative view to Marslady? I started in the 2nd group last year, just 30mins after the fastest lot and kept overtaking people. Just don't want you to get disheartened if people do overtake you.

Earlybird · 02/12/2005 21:11

Hi Posey - How are you? Not quite sure from your post...you've already registered, and will be walking with another group? Would be so much fun to all walk together - we want you for the Mumsnet team!

As an aside - sorry not to have been in touch. DD and I have both been a bit poorly, and now pre-Christmas craziness has overtaken. We'll definitely get a walk together in the new year though if we're both in training for the Moonwalk. You can be my coach! Maybe you should coach the entire team!

SnowsyPosey · 02/12/2005 21:25

I applied straight away, didn't know ther'd be a mumsnet team. Don't think it will matter though, you can meet up with whoever you want when you get there.
Missed you at the meetup - was looking forward to seeing you. Will defo meet up in Regents Park in the new year, moonwalk or not!

notasheep · 02/12/2005 21:35

I did the Full Moon Walk with my dp in 2001(yes he wore a bra and got lots of attention)-a fantastic experience, hope you all get a place!! As I have done the walk before i have Volunteered to help out,so maybe there will be a Mumsnet team of Volunteers?!

MistletAero · 02/12/2005 21:48

Cadders - is this something you've not shared with me?!! Good luck to you that wumman!

Earlybird · 03/12/2005 09:43

OK ladies - my completed entry form and registration fee are going in the post this morning. It will be such fun!

Anyone else care to join?

santaslittleunicorn · 03/12/2005 09:51

Ok , The toner has gone on my printer,so application is barely readable, but I have filled it in - so shall post it asap.

Just hope I have better luck getting on this year.

So, if we all do get accepted, shall we try and arrange at least 1 weekly walk together in town?

(I suggest around the shops+bars..)

Earlybird · 03/12/2005 09:57

slu - when did you try to register for last year's walk? Do you think we might be too late already?

Posey - as someone who has done this walk before, were you notified in advance that it was time to register again for this year's walk? Just curious, as it does seem this is one of those things that you really have to be aware of, or you risk missing out....

JoPG · 03/12/2005 17:16

SnowseyPosey - I too am registered for the 2006 Moonwalk - I got a place by applying online on Thursday.
Am really looking forward to it. Have not done it before, but should be good fun.
Did you follow any particular training plan? I know that there are some available via the Walk the Walk website.
D'you think running / bike riding can be done instead of walking on occasion? It's just that to run 10 miles is a lot quicker than walking it and it might be difficult to fit in all the training otherwise. I'm able to run about 10 miles, so hopefully that should stand me in good stead and I have still got plenty of time to up the distances.
Keep in touch anybody else who manages to get a place and we can compare training notes (and blisters!)

OP posts:
Earlybird · 03/12/2005 17:23

OOOhhhh - I may be in trouble! I walk about 35 miles every week currently (sometimes more), but couldn't contemplate running 5 miles....much less 10! I know I'll finish, but might be with the slowpokes! I've got to get training, and will be curious to see the programs other propose.

To those who have done it - how long did it take you to complete the 26.2 miles?

SnowsyPosey · 03/12/2005 20:57

Have just had a look at the walkthewalk website and now they say all postal entries are full
Guess it will just be a case of wait and see and if not successful try and get a Telegraph place.
Earlybird, no I didn't know officially, just kept an eye on the site and saw it was going to be 30th November.
JoPG, yes I did follow a training plan, although fairly loosely. It was more to keep an idea of how I should be getting on. I started in the new year and built up gradually.
BTW, in all my training, I got not a single blister. I thank my wonderful trainers, bought at a proper running shop (although I explained I was power walking)

Good luck to everyone that applied. Let us know when you hear!

Earlybird · 03/12/2005 21:14

Posey - I've checked the website, as you did, and it appears that most (if not all) of us won't get a place.

I'm disappointed (and if I'm completely honest, a bit pissed off ), especially as we all reacted immediately, and still missed out. I'm amazed that entries were opened on 30 November, and all places are gone already.

How many people (approximately) did the walk last year? I know I'm laboring the point, but I just can't believe that there were so many people who got registered that quickly.

I won't even try for the Telegraph places, as I am out of the country for Christmas break until 10 January, so will be pointless even trying....

SnowsyPosey · 03/12/2005 22:02

Officially 15000, but insider info said probably nearer 17000 (dd's mate's dad filmed it for their official DVD). I had the PC on all day on the 1st (the 30th never happened) and when they went on release I couldn't get past the securtiy check list thingy (kept coming up as an error).
So printed off a postal application and got it in the post at 3pm on Thursday. Will have to wait and see.
