Have the Tweenies voices changed?

Is it me or are some of them different now? I am sure that Fizz or Bella now sounds like one of the things from Story Makers. Or am I just getting sad now that I now notice these things

Haven't the Frimbles been possessed by The Voice of Tweenies?
I am sure there is a generic silly voice, modelled on that woman in Salty Dog.

I think the Fimbles have been sold to America because there are loads of little extra added "educational" bits in it that seem to fit in more with an American children's prog ie Barney. Can't quite put my finger on it, but the film studies student in me thinks the director or producer must have changed. The irritating bird baby now has a voice and a part in the prog - why? The middle fimble's voice has gone very odd and the colours of the whole prog have been whacked up to technicolour - it used to be quite a mellow trippy gentle show, now it's most definitely taken some weirdy acieeeeeeed

Very distressed about Tamba replacement too.

Hadn't notice Tamba, but Bella's voice has definitely changed (we have some old ones on tape from when ds1 was little). Will have to go and watch cbeebies now...

Bogwoppit · 13/10/2003 13:34

shows how long it is since i watched cbeebies (ds more of a nickjr fan now). must get him to watch it so I can see all these changes!

florenceuk · 13/10/2003 13:51

Agree that the girl(s)? voice on the Tweenies sounds just like the thingy on Storymakers - I thought they were the same actor.

BTW, does anybody know how the Tweenies work? Are they dressed up humans? And if so, how do they do the grown-ups -are they on stilts?

babster · 13/10/2003 14:18

There's another CBeebies thread somewhere that goes into Tweenie voices and actors... the child Tweenies are shortish adults, and Max and Judy are played by the same lanky giant (which is why you don't see them together often).

Sadly I notice these things too, and upset dd1 the other day by saying, 'Oh look, Florrie's got a new voice'. Oops, nearly let the cat out of the bag there... anyone would think they're not real!

bluecow · 13/10/2003 16:44

Bella was Sally Preisig to start with and is now Emma Weaver, I think?
Tamba has changed from Sue Eves to a new girl. And for one weird episode of The Fimbles last week Florrie's voice was definitely done by someone else as it sounded as if it was going through an electronic voicebox of some sort. Then it switched back to the usual one. Perhaps she was off sick? The Fimbles has definitely been changed. The tunes are certainly better for a start.

I'm guessing the Tweenies are 'regular' sized adults and that Max and Judy (who I think are different people in the costumes) are too, but if you look closely they seem to be made taller by having padded up shoulders.

On another thread someone said that Sue the CBeebies presenter was the voice of Tigs on The Shiny Show, which I'm most impressed by (though she does remind me of Queenie from Blackadder). Oh and Justin Fletcher from Tikkabilla does Jake Tweenies' voice.
I really must get out more...

gingernut · 13/10/2003 16:50

Florrie was played by Kate Harbour one day last week - she's not the usual voice for Florrie but I recognised it as she does Dizzy in Bob the Builder and Laughing Duck in Boo.

So, Bluecow, you're not the only one who needs to get out more...

bluecow · 13/10/2003 16:52

Gingernut - perhaps we should go out together! Guess the usual Florrie was off then. Too many crumble crackers...

musica · 13/10/2003 17:29

Justin Fletcher is also in Boo, (as well as Tikkabilla/Tweenies etc) and Sally Preisig is the original Dogsby in the Shiny Show.

Angeliz · 13/10/2003 17:37

has Bella had a haircut too????

SoupDragon · 13/10/2003 19:16

Bron - I did add 'I think' cos I couldn't remember whilst I was typing, stuck as I am in office
and you're right.

So, Soupy, where you taking us?

bea · 14/10/2003 15:51

aha!!!! i've always wondered about the size of the tweenies... i.e. are they played by midgets and max and judy normal sized... or tweenies - normal size and judy and max - huuuuge!!! etc etc etc... me and dh have been known to ponder this over quiet evenings!!!

.... and another thing!!!! do you know that advert which they play on bbc2 during c beebies about when learning starts and they have that baby grow from baby into toddler.... is that a real child??? as his features stay remarkabley the same throughout the 'morph' or is he a digitally made up child???? these things keep me up at night!!!!

bluecow · 14/10/2003 15:55

D'you know Bea, it's funny what parenthood does to your brain!

I think it's a different child. What keeps me up at night is the Balamory tune going through my head!

GeorginaA · 14/10/2003 15:56

I wondered about that child morphing too, Bea!

suzywong · 14/10/2003 21:01

How do the creatures that play the tweenies see out? Is it through the mouth or via miniature CCTV or highly trainedinvisible pixies giving them instructions I have spent a long time wondering about this.

And yes, we did all used to employ our brains on other, outside-world things but don't you think that Byron Wordsworth the Storymaker in the suit is worth enduring all that kids' tv for. Mmmmmmmm - he's my favourite!

gingernut · 14/10/2003 22:31

Ooooooh! Soupy is taking bluecow and me out! I hope I don't drop any clangers

lilymum · 14/10/2003 22:32

suzywong - me too re the tweenies and how they see!!! Someone must know!!

Bella (or is it Fizz) sounds like Betty, Frank Spencer's wife.

I have become rather obsessed by looking at all the credits at the end of the Cbeebies and get v upset when DD stands in front of the screen.

And Simon from Tikkabilla doesn't wear a wedding ring anymore.
