Is there any such thing as a typical Mumsnetter?

I've been thinking about this today (and, ooh, I've been so good: stayed off MN, did lots of work, and cleaned the house top to bottom, mopping, vacuuming, dusting - the lot!) Sorry ..original question. So, is there?

In my head, most Mumsnetters are in relationships (married or cohabiting), in their 30s, working (I mean paid work - outside the home or from home), have two children (below the age of 10), and I reckon most live in Britain and the South of Britain at that.

Is there any basis for my wild assumptions (and I know loads of MNers don't fit these criteria - can think of several off the top of my head)?

And - even more pertinent - can we find out without anyone taking offence?! I am not saying this is the 'ideal' MNer (obviously because that's me, and I don't match the description )

oh and in south

MascaraOHara · 24/11/2005 09:41

PMSL I am so against the grain

I am below 30
I only have one child
I'm WOH fulltime
I am not cohabiting

Neither of us have ever owned anything from Boden

I also go against the grain of Strawberry's list

I bottle fed
I used disposibles
I weaned on to solids before 6 months

Kelly1978 · 24/11/2005 09:50

Only two of those apply to me, I am cohabiting and I live in the south.
No way I would say I am a typical mumsnetter. I have four kids, don't like boden, drve a 4 x 4 , use disposable nappies, smack my kids.

Nightynight · 24/11/2005 11:37

no, married/cohabiting cannot be part of the stereotype, there are so many of us lone parents!

I'd suggest "would LIKE to wear Boden/Laura Ashley/Gap/Petit Bateau - when the finances allow"

CountessDracula · 24/11/2005 11:37

I am all of the above except I only have one child

ThomCat · 24/11/2005 11:41

Co-habiting - tick
In my 30's - tick
Paid work - tick
2 children - come end of the year I can tick that box
Britain & south - yes tick, live on outskirts of London

LynnC · 24/11/2005 11:47

I'm 28
co-habiting,
working,
1 dd
live in scotland

WigWamBam · 24/11/2005 11:49

Not in my 30s, more's the pity, I don't work outside the home, I only have one child (although she's below the age of 10), and I'm in the Midlands, which probably isn't what you meant by the South!

Otherwise I'm half and half: Boden stinks, as (probably) did dd's disposable nappies (although I do use washable sanpro so probably get a few MN points there

chicagomum · 24/11/2005 11:57

I fit all those categories
married
32
2 children under 5
working (or will be when maternity leave ends next week (yikes) )
live in London (now our jaunt to chicago is over)
