Is there any such thing as a typical Mumsnetter?

I've been thinking about this today (and, ooh, I've been so good: stayed off MN, did lots of work, and cleaned the house top to bottom, mopping, vacuuming, dusting - the lot!) Sorry ..original question. So, is there?

In my head, most Mumsnetters are in relationships (married or cohabiting), in their 30s, working (I mean paid work - outside the home or from home), have two children (below the age of 10), and I reckon most live in Britain and the South of Britain at that.

Is there any basis for my wild assumptions (and I know loads of MNers don't fit these criteria - can think of several off the top of my head)?

And - even more pertinent - can we find out without anyone taking offence?! I am not saying this is the 'ideal' MNer (obviously because that's me, and I don't match the description )

Yes, yes, yes - have three under 10, rather than two, and am (sadly) no longer in my thirties, but apart from that...

Hmm. Well yes, engaged, 1 dd under 10 (jury's currently out on whether pg at the mo or not), live in Surrey when in UK and am 35. I work outside the home too.

Verso · 24/11/2005 06:52

I can say yes to everything apart from two children (only have one so far). LOL@sackache. I'm a cliche too!

(Oh, and I have been known to buy the odd Boden item - from the sale - too .)

Oh, and though I do live in the SW of London at the moment, I still lovely flat vowels from growing up in Yorkshire (DH from Cheshire ditto) and don't consider myself a southerner at all. Couldn't bear it if DD grew up wiv a Sarf Lunnen accent!

Blandmum · 24/11/2005 07:08

Married for 18 years
Ages 43
two kids 8 and 5
Part time teacher, dh a pilot

Though Boden had something to do with coffee makers until I started to read MN!

LadyTophamHatt · 24/11/2005 07:08

LadyTophamHatt · 24/11/2005 07:13

WWW, why is this "getting married next week" malarky not common knowledge???

Thought you'd slip that in, did ya? Thought no-one would see??

I'll have to tell DH your news

Lio · 24/11/2005 08:19

Tick nearly all boxes (waiting for second child to get itself conceived...)

Pip · 24/11/2005 08:35

live in northern Spain (aha!)

dejinglejags · 24/11/2005 08:36

I am married
Im 37
I have 2 children but they are aged 11 and 9
I work from home
and I live in the SW of England.

Never shopped at Boden, but am secretly covetting a jumper from there and hope DH finds my wish list on the comp so it appears on Christmas morning.

SecondhandRose · 24/11/2005 09:18

Yes to being married,

38

children 10 and 7 (I have been on MN for 5 years)

SAHM but work at home

Occasional dabble in Boden but DD is now between sizes.

I always assume most MN'ers are competant typists otherwise some people would never leave their keyboards!
