Do you live in Surrey?

If so, where and what is it like?

We are (hopefully!) soon going to be house-hunting (renting) and have no restrictions really on where we'll end up. We really like Reigate so far but am interested to know of any other nice family places to live.

Thanks in advance, Dinny

Lockets (hello! lovely to see you and gorgeous dds) I like both Kingston and Surbiton and we have friends in Surbiton but dh thinks it's too like London, iyswim. Want a bit of a change of lifestyle....

ks, we just liked the town - not necessarily that area. Whereabouts are you?

As you know we are slightly outside Reigate. Not sure I'd recommend the town itself (it is a bit run down and lots of new housing developments planned) but it is cheaper than many parts of Surrey and handy for Gatwick ! There are some areas around here with a more villagey feel but still within striking distance of Reigate and mainline/A23 into London. Have a look at Merstham, South Nutfield and Smallfield, for example.

I am in Sutton/Carshalton. It is one of the best boroughs for schools. I really like it here

LIZS · 10/11/2005 19:54

Yes Dorking is nice, as is Leatherhead. Can be pricey around there though.

dinny · 10/11/2005 19:55

dd still being a nightmare, Lockets!

thanks (again!) LIZS

ks, yes we do need to be withing striking distance of London as dh will be driving to work in Battersea.

REALLY twitchy. Both won't go to sleep and I have had enough so they are both hollering ijn separate rooms.

Dorking is really near Reigate. Did consider it but Reigate is much nicer town, I think.

Farnham is brilliant, and on the line into Waterloo Come to Farnham, the schools are brilliant, and I mean brilliant.

Come on you know you want to.

And then Hunker could visit us both at the same time, the longer I think about it, the better an idea it becomes.

galaxy · 10/11/2005 20:05

Ditto LGJ!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 10/11/2005 20:25

Too far to commute I am bereft,

Is your DH serious ?? Should I call all the estate agents back and call off the hunt.

dinny · 10/11/2005 20:27

ha, yes, think so. annoyingly! anyway, our Surrey move is only a halfway house en route back to West Country....

I live in the Sutton area (like Blossamhill....I'm sure we must be neighbours) and I hate it.
IMO unless you live in the really Surrey(as in not a London borough, like me) then it's all too mush like London.

We're moving to sussex at the end of the month.

I am Kingston... not sure if this counts at Surrey - depends who you speak to which is one of its plus points (all the benefits of living in London but can get out quick !!). I too would much rather be back in Sussex though [sigh]
