Is it short for MAXimillion or is it just MAX?

How many are there on MN? My cousin called her DS MAX but his real name is MAXimillion {sorry about spelling if that is not correct haven't seen it written down yet}

Amai....I disagree. It is not as popular as Jack and although I dont want every other boy called Max, I dont think it should be avoided. When ds was born in 2002 I didnt know a single Max. Jack is a lovely name too.

twirlaround · 30/10/2005 20:29

Most common name in dd's class

vickiyumyum · 30/10/2005 20:30

i know quite a few max's. three friends have sons called max (not sure if short for anything) and four friends of friends have max's, so very common round here!

(i also know a dog called max)

bettythebuilder · 30/10/2005 21:06
  1. Maximillien. Another spelling variation for you.
Amai · 30/10/2005 21:08

Just thought Max was cool when i first heard it. Names loose their 'strength' if they are too popular. As a trainee teacher i saw beautiful names like Jasmine and Jade and nice boys names like Kyle and Reece loose there appeal as there are so many on the register. Max is very popular you will see, it will dominate this generation like Andrew and James have done in the past. Dont mean to annoy you BTW! Hope I havent

piffle · 30/10/2005 21:09

my son is MAX just Max know one othe friend with a Max who is just a Max too....

piffle · 30/10/2005 21:11

and all of his mates (he's 11 now) call him gladiator type nicknames like maximus meridius pain in the arsus... he gets GREAT mileage out of it, the only thing bad it rhymes with is tampax ( a main reason for choosing it LOL) having surname that rhymes with f* a decent first name was CRUCIAL..

hoxtonchick · 30/10/2005 21:12

my ds is max. his full name is maxwell. we know 1 other one, none at all in nursery.

piffle · 30/10/2005 21:13

I'm going to go on forever on this thread I've waited 11 yrs to reel off all this
every person I met had a teddybear or German Shepherd dog called Max.....

jodee · 30/10/2005 21:13

I know one Max in the same year as ds.

Our dog was called Max (but was short for Maxine so doesn't count here!)

Talking of 'common' (as in popular) names, I thought 'David' was out of fashion now but there are two in ds's Y1 class.

polly28 · 30/10/2005 21:13

i know 5 boys named max,ages from 6months to 13yrs

jodee · 30/10/2005 21:14

Passionkiller · 30/10/2005 21:17

pph being regal you'd lean more to the Charles and Williams - we understand you're unable to bow to fashion

Hulababy · 30/10/2005 21:53

I taught one Max, but his full name was Maximillian.

Friend's sister has recently had a little boy called Max.(just Max, not a longer version).
