I know an Angel, a Princess, Sheherazarde, Piper, Summer, two Romans. Actually there are loads in Brighton. I make a point of looking at name lists because I love names.

fullmoonfiend · 28/10/2005 19:02

A lovely woman in the park ws calling 'Titty Titty' to her child which caused a near hurricane of laugher and snorting among the other parents. It turned out her daughter is called Titilope, and it's an African name.
And an aquaintance has called her son Quentin. Fair enough (?) Only her surname is Cumberland. Q.Cumber-land anyone???

flamebat · 28/10/2005 19:03

Fang has to be the best one I saw - I was doing data entry, and it was a customer's name

Lonelymum · 28/10/2005 19:03

If I had married a Jewish man, I have loads of Old Testament names I could have picked for my children. Malachi for starters.

Sm,my sister always has me sniggering when I visit her in Brighton by relating the names she has overheard at the schoolgate and playground.

I ifnd it disconcerting here in Turkey to meet a plethora of Ayeshas and Jamahls, nmaes that I associate with strretwise black British kids.
Especially when the Ayesshas are sporting headscarves and ankle length dresses, not corn rows and belly rings....

Lonelymum · 28/10/2005 19:07

I have to say my Finbar does cause me embarrassment. Although I love the name, it is not easy to call out when in public and it always seems to elicit a lot of rude stares from people. I tend to call "Fin" now, as that doesn't seem so unacceptable to people. So i would caution people before calling their child anything too unusual. Try to have a more acceptable shortened version you can use in public, or develop a very thick skin or a total blindness to the reaction of people around you.

Lm...I likeFinbar and Fin. You have to stick your neck out or we would all be Anns and Sarahs and Johns.

Mrs P...
My aunt lived next door to a kid called Velvet Hymen.

London of course.

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 19:13

A couple up the road (mr and mrs pipe) had a son and called him Dwain shrugs

moondog · 28/10/2005 19:14

Titty is very nineteen fifties.
Pretty groovy actually.
The American penchant for Randy never fails to get me and dh going in a very silly way indeed.

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 19:14

What's wrong with being called Sarah?? I love my name and it's always been really popular.
Kids with unusual names are more likely to get bullied at school too sadly.
