My Mum is called Kathleen. The reason my sister calls Izzy - Dot, is because she was born 3 weeks early and lots quite a lot of weight initially (dropped to 5lb 7), she really was tiny and my sister said she was a tiny Dot - and the name has stuck!

bossykate · 28/10/2005 20:56

JG - did you call him Zack or Zachary with Zack for short?

compo · 28/10/2005 20:56

but would you go on to have a Poppy?!!

tegan · 28/10/2005 20:56

I think it's easier to choose a name if you can see someone with that name.

expatinscotland · 28/10/2005 20:56

Yes, bossy, that's another of my pet peeves - naming kids cultural names when you have no name to that heritage. Happens A LOT in America, where I'm from. Even worse is that they tend chose names, particularly of the Scottish variety, that no self-respecting Scot would probably name their child. It never ceases to amuse Scots hubby, who continually asks, 'Why do Americans give their children such daft names?' Of particular amusement to him is a the surname-as-forename phenomenon.

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 20:56

JenumGeranium · 28/10/2005 20:57

no I wouldnt go on to have a Poppy! Quite a nice name on its own, but as you said, a bit OTT with the flowery thing!

He is called Zack. Thats it! We end up calling him Zacky!

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 20:57

Well I never know why anyone calls their son Caine - after all he murdered his brother!

nailpolish · 28/10/2005 20:58

i know of a couple who named their daughter after their car - a ford focus ebony

the daughter was born with very blonde hair so they thought ebony would not suit her so they changed it to Ebon

i dont think it really suits her as she is very pretty adn Ebon is a bit boring and dull sounding for her

tegan · 28/10/2005 20:58

or you could have caine cos you like micheal caine

bossykate · 28/10/2005 20:58

Furball · 28/10/2005 20:59

Compo - my friend did it the other way round, she had Daisy first then Poppy. It sort of reminds me of all those sisters on 'keeping up appearances' and wonder whether if anymore girls would they carry on the 'theme'

JenumGeranium · 28/10/2005 21:00

Yeah! Hyacinth would be next!

compo · 28/10/2005 21:00

I just imagine other kids saying to them 'so where's Rose, Violet and Pansy'!!!!

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 21:00
