I knew someone who liked the name Omar but there surname was Gould - (tip - say in a cockney accent!)

spidermama · 28/10/2005 20:46

Tee hee Sarah. there must be some of those around. Poor ... er ... things.

bootsmonkey · 28/10/2005 20:46

She is 3.5 (similar to yours?) & lots of people stumble on it - but it is quite straightforward really - just unusual... Worst is her cousin who can't do 'th' sounds & calls her 'fear'!!

bossykate · 28/10/2005 20:48

ok, i will stick my neck out, apologies in advance...

any child named c/k/aitlin where it is pronounced "kate-lynn" as opposed to "cough-leen"... which leads me on to one of my big bugbears - do not choose "celtic fringe" names where you have no claim to that heritage!!!

kate that reminds me of a Ruaridh i know - the poor boy never gets his name spelt or pronounced correctly

tegan · 28/10/2005 20:50

My friends little one is caitlin grace and I hate it sorry

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 20:50

My friend called her daughter Kaitlin (kate-lynn), I don't like it, she was going to call her Katherine and then changed her mind, it's in honour of her MIL who had passed away not long before.

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 20:50

My sister calls my Isobel - Dot, work that one out if you can!! LOL

spidermama · 28/10/2005 20:51

Oooer. I know quite a few 'Kate-Lynns'. Doesn't almost everyone claim to have some Irish heritage somewhere along the line?

My MIL is half Irish so I'd be in the clear. Not that I've chosen any Irish names.

JenumGeranium · 28/10/2005 20:51

knew of 2 sisters called Caitlin and Serryn!

tegan · 28/10/2005 20:52

dh's nan has never called either of my girls by there names as she hates their names and is a cantancorous old cow.

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 20:52

No Irish in my family line, as far as I know! Although I've no flippin idea where my hubby's surname comes from!!

bossykate · 28/10/2005 20:53

if it is a genuine claim they would know how to pronounce the name.

JenumGeranium · 28/10/2005 20:53

Yeah we called my DS1 Zack and dhs nan said - oh why dont you call him a nice name!?

expatinscotland · 28/10/2005 20:53

Neo. Yes, just like 'The Matrix'.

tegan · 28/10/2005 20:53

We've got no irish on either side but i am australian

spidermama · 28/10/2005 20:54

Sarah I'Dixie Dot' is Anna Ryder Richardson's little girl. I know it's kind of mad but I really like it. She'll have to drop the 'dot' part as she gets older but I love Dixie. I wanted to call my ds Dixie if he had been a dd but was coming up against strong resistance from family.

bossykate · 28/10/2005 20:54

the anglicised version is kathleen - that gives a better idea of how it should be pronounced.

bootsmonkey · 28/10/2005 20:54

Lockets - nice to meet you too! I think it is a lovely & unusual name - & I am fairly confident that she will be the only Thea in her year, although there is also a Tia and Taya in her pre-school year!

Sarahx2005 · 28/10/2005 20:54

A friend I met on another forum has two boys called Zadock and Elijah. They are quite unusual.

Elijah is very nice actually - not so taken with Zadock! (sounds like haddock!)

I love the name Daisy if I was to have a girl!

tegan · 28/10/2005 20:56

dh's nan is grace and because of her attitude it has put me off the name for life.
