I caught my reflection today....

and I have turned into a bag lady! How did that happen?

I swore when I became a SAHM that I would not turn to sweat tops and leggings each morning. I'm all for practical clothes but, Jesus, when did I stop wearing heels?!!! I had my hair tied back in a scrunchie and I'm 38.

Trinny and Susannah where are you when I need you?

Scrunchies are a big No-No according to Carrie in "Sex in the City". Not quite sure what's meant to take their place though ?

But there's no point getting all dressed up in good clothes just to have pesky kids smear jam on you or throw up over you. Should you wear your best clothes just to ruin them with nappy-changing and housework?

I'm busy turning up a pair of smart, funky purple trousers bought whilst in shock! If I get marmite on them there'll be hell to play.

Of course I really need a hair cut/colour and to lose 3 stone but the purple trousers are a start!

If my mother had seen me she'd have disowned me

what's a scrunchie? Is it one of those hair things?

But strangely enough I was going to post a very similar thread after getting ready for work yesterday and catching sight of myself in the mirror... didn't quite think 'baglady' but just thought I looked more kind of 'mature' and 'thirty-something' than I'd prefer to...

Why is it? What happens? IS it something to do with post-baby tits & tums?

I know what you mean ghengis, difficult to get out of the tracksuit, t-shirt scenario every morning. Still try to look presentable for DH but not always possible.

I used to be curvy but now I'm round. Everywhere! It seems to happen when you are not looking. You think you look like Catherine Zeta Jones then catch sight of yourself and you see Dawn French - aaaaaagh!

This is a bit spooky. I just sent a text to someone saying virtually the same thing. Am dressed fairly smartly, the clothes aren't the problem, it's the rest of me. Can't stand what is happening to me as I get older, I didn't have much to work on in the first place. I know it shouldn't matter, but it does, big time.

I have settled for comfort and frquently cringe at my reflection. I call myself FrumpyMum cos that's what I look like but inside there is a trendy one trying to get out. I like to think All Saints wiht a touch of Meg Matthews but in reality it's Pauline Fowler.

I'm going to ruin your days, dd said to me yesterday "why don't you look like the other mummys?" I queried what she meant and bless her she said "You have sparkly eyes and pretty clothes"

I felt 10ft tall walking her to school!

I keep getting told by dd that I am a princess! Unfortunately, she has also told me that I am a horrible witch, an elephant, a hippo, etc etc...
I must be getting old 'cause I can't bear to wear a G-string now, far too uncomfortable for some reason... What happened to me? Hello vpl!

jac34..yes! What is this clothes fascism about? Can't find trousers that aren't hipsters (I WILL NOT wear sensible crimpelene style slacks or tracksuit bottoms) and can't find a top that goes past my midriff (even in Mumsy shops like M&S - everything is too short)

Do clothes designers ever look at women who have borne children?

Instead of scrunchies why don't you try those 'bulldog' clips for hair, I see lots of mums with long hair wearing them and think they look very elegant and ballet dancer'ish with their hair swept off their faces. Agree about the heels bit - when last did I wear them, hmm, going out tomorrow night, perhaps I will visit the Body Shop for a mini makeover and haul out my heels for the evening.

Last night I wore my Richard Tyler black dress from Harvey Nicks (not worn since pg - thank you weightwatchers) with the deep v neck and slit skirt, and my hair loose and heels and went out with dh. Felt v sexy. Excellent. Not old bag after all!

Wore boots with heels for first time in ages and ages for the past two weeks (new term back at school, make an effort thoughts). The first week I could hardly walk when I got home - my thighs and calves were aching so much

And I really did ought to get back on that diet. At 17mo DD is getting far too old to take the blame
