and I have turned into a bag lady! How did that happen?

I swore when I became a SAHM that I would not turn to sweat tops and leggings each morning. I'm all for practical clothes but, Jesus, when did I stop wearing heels?!!! I had my hair tied back in a scrunchie and I'm 38.

Trinny and Susannah where are you when I need you?

i'll take better care of myself when i'll go to work. but about clothes- i'm a vet and i'm going to work with horses

motherinferior · 21/09/2003 11:50

Frenchgirl, don't know if I can forgive you for that kew link. Tell me ALL about the shop. The website looks fab...

Bought long biascut cord skirt, dark purply/aubergine; and a V-neck olive green silk/angora jumper. Then went and got rather wonderful pair of black velvet trousers (not floppy palazzo ones, structuredish straightlegged ones, slightly wide) in, of all places, Gap. Resisted all pressure to buy children's or baby clothes.

Nobody in the world could call aloha an old bag, IMO.

motherinferior · 21/09/2003 11:52

Ah, but jedy, can't you wear those marvellously practical and WARM Ugg boots that are supposedly terribly fashionable this winter? Am yearning for a reason to buy a pair myself, which is a bit pointless as (a) should spend what money I have on life's essentials like childcare and gin (b) I work indoors, at home, in slippers, with the biggest outing of the day a walk to the childminder's.

Hate the size of me,need hair cut and new colour, however have to say that I'm lucky my partner loves dawn french and thinks she's sexy Sorry to sicken anyone. After reading other threads on weight etc have come to conclusion that I'm heavier than anyone on here.I could make any of those who have put there weight look thinner than twiggy. Will def have to take action.Hope some of you feel better knowing that

motherinferior · 22/09/2003 13:22

Frenchgirl, been shopping yet?

aloha · 22/09/2003 14:03

Hmm, realise cannot wear M&S combats forever (esp as not fashionable any more) but what now??? Also, cannot bear the thought of not wearing my flip flops any more. What do you wear on your feet in winter?? Aside from Ugg boots, obviously.
Got out a box of old pix of me the other day. Aargh...why did I think I was fat and old when I was thin and young? What a waste!
PS thanks MiF!

CountessDracula · 22/09/2003 14:06

I've been wondering what to wear on my feet. Sob, I don't want to give up my Birkenstocks, they are sooooo comfy. Will have to go shoe shopping

mottie · 22/09/2003 14:07

My problem is still looking pregnant when the baby is 3 months old I'm still in maternity clothes!!!!!

newgirl · 22/09/2003 14:07

was told by nurse this week 'wouldn't it be good to lose that pregnancy weight?' eek, so now on healthy eating plan. i thought i'd got away with it! saw article in sunday times saying thank god its winter again; lots of dark colours, and layers!!

motherinferior · 22/09/2003 15:00

Winter and feet big problem IMO, especially if you have crap circulation like mine so have to wear lots of pairs of socks.

motherinferior · 22/09/2003 15:17

Oh, and I feel I'll revert to my usual winter look of jeans and cleavage, especially since acquiring what my pilates teacher tactfully referred to as 'breastfeeding chest'

Frenchgirl · 22/09/2003 15:29

hi motherinferior,
haven't been shopping yet as being v conscientious and have gone to 'Club Francais' training instead (I'm gonna teach french to kiddies in school clubs). Will go on Thursday, if I can wait that long... Sounds like you had a good time the other day and well done for resisting Baby Gap (always a tough one, although wasn't particularly impressed last week when I went!)
Got to go and collect dd!!

M2T · 22/09/2003 15:35

Apparently the replacement for scrunchies is going right back to basics! Carrie on Sex and The City used an elastic band! >gasp< Think of your hair!

I am sad to say that since that episode I haven't worn a scrunchie, except to keep my hair out of my face whilst putting on make-up!

So sad, so young.

Frenchgirl · 22/09/2003 16:47

M2T, you might want to try a g-string: yes, Emmanuelle Beart, french actress who did a nude cover for the French Elle in the spring did wear one to tie her hair up....(men did not notice, though, wonder why..).. hopefully it was clean

swanny · 22/09/2003 18:31

i was wondering at what age people start to go grey

codswallop · 22/09/2003 19:31

when they have their third child

CountessDracula · 22/09/2003 19:31

swanny I started to go grey when I was 12 and had my first child when I was 35 lol!

candy · 22/09/2003 19:32

well I wore my suit to work today and didn't know whether to be pleased or angry when a load of ex-pupils shouted "Nice a**e" at me as I walked out of school tonight! Usually feel really fat and awful lately so should be pleased at any compliments maybe?

codswallop · 22/09/2003 19:39

I would say your clothes were too tight - sorry.

A colleague of mine was once cornered outside school by kids chanting "miss X has got no tits"..so its grass and greener situatuiion!

swanny · 22/09/2003 19:52

so how do you cope grey? leave it as it is, dye it yourself or visit hairdressers every few weeks (very expensive)

Angiel · 22/09/2003 20:21

Candy - I would say they thought you had a nice arse!!

motherinferior · 22/09/2003 20:29

My red hair started to be less red when I was about 20 - fading rather than greying at that stage. Two decades on there's a lot of white in there, I suspect. Used to use henna, now dye it with semi-permanent that fades gradually.

God knows what a third child would do to it.

I dye my eyelashes too...

I adore Dawn French! We don't get anymore of the Vicor of Dibley over here--is it still on? When people started calling me "Mam" at the cash register, I knew it was all over for me. DD sucked what was left out of the color in my hair and all of the calcium in my teeth. Did that happen to anyone else? I must brag, brag, brag that I am still trouncing around in my sandals and I do love it.....
