I HATE my husband atm - he is a long haul holiday fascist. Would you want to go here?

I'd be happy with Seville - this apparently makes me a boring limited old fart

But he is now touting Costa Rica - is it me or does it sound kind of risky what with crime, rip tides and crocs

oh and Dengue fever whatever the fuck that is

Anyone want to trade?

I'd go to Costa Rica but I hate long flights too. What is the particular attraction in it for him?

hmc · 07/03/2011 14:48

God alone knows ZZZ - he craves the exotic and the interesting

(I crave comfort and safety)

I've just wiki-ed Dengue fever, there is no vaccination and children are more susceptible to horrid complications.......

Sorry - bad time to post (didn't realise the time), got to go to PO before school pick up, but back later to check in.....

I went to Costa Rica years ago and had the most amazing time. At the time it was the safest South American country - I don't know if that's the case still - and we backpacked round for two weeks. I'd love to go again one when the children are older.

hootiemcboob · 07/03/2011 15:21

I wish I hadn't read that link! My daughter is going to Costa Rica next month with her Spanish class.

FreeButtonBee · 07/03/2011 15:30

Go to Argentina. Relatively safe, fairly far flung, lovely lovely people, food and wine!

My favourite place.

NettoSuperstar · 07/03/2011 15:32

I'd love to go to Costa Rica.
I crave exotic and interesting too, but sadly am skint!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 07/03/2011 15:36

I'd like to go to South America too. FWIW, you can read too much about places you are planning to visit.
As far as Dengue is concerned, take basic anti mozzie precautions and you'll be fine.
Oour DD managed four years in Bangkok without catching either malaria or dengue.

AlistairSim · 07/03/2011 15:36

Costa Rica is lovely, I would bite his hand off. Would love to go again.

hmc · 07/03/2011 15:41

Oh blimey - you supposed to say 'Clearly he is a mad man, far too risky' - not 'go for it you lucky thing' Wink

hmc · 07/03/2011 15:42

hootie - I am sure a group will be quite safe from crime targetting etc, please don't worry!

hmc · 07/03/2011 15:42

Going to research Argentina...

glastocat · 07/03/2011 15:44

I'd bloody love to go, Costa Rica is meant to be fantastic.

3littlefrogs · 07/03/2011 15:44

To be fair though - Bangkok isn't a risk area for malaria or dengue.....

Best check with your local travel clinic to be on the safe side.

Lizzylou · 07/03/2011 15:44

I would go (and take the children) to Costa Rica like a shot, sorry!
Pre-DC we went to Bolivia and Peru and it was amazing, would love to explore more of South America.
Isn't there a lovely island/resort near to/in Argentina? Will go and search.

Lizzylou · 07/03/2011 16:01

Oh OK, it would seem I am thinking of Margarita which is near Venezuela, not Argentina!

ZZZenAgain · 07/03/2011 16:02

isla Margarita is nice

Wondering what Chile is like. I never got there but dh was there on business and raved about the place

hootiemcboob · 07/03/2011 16:02

Oh, I know that, hmc, I'm just a bit of a worrier!

NettoSuperstar · 07/03/2011 16:10

I caught Malaria, whilst travelling alone with a baby, and I'm still here to tell the tale....

hmc · 07/03/2011 16:10

Ha! - me too!!

hmc · 07/03/2011 16:11

We've come to an agreement - I know you all think I am daft worrying about Costa Rica but can't help it tbh...so we talked it over and came up with Bermuda! Only 7 hour flight, low crime, safe.....also history as colony with slavery there which appeals to me as an historian (just the odd hurricane to fret about!)

Perhaps Costa Rica next year...in the mean time I'll buy a lonely planet / rough guide on Costa Rica and try to talk myself around; because the wildlife looks amazing

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 08/03/2011 13:00

bermuda is nice (of course)
I asked dh about Costa Rica last night (he's been everywhere on business pretty much) and he thinks it is one of the safer places round there and he says it would definitely be a good tourist destination (depending of course of where you went and what you like to do on holiday)

Lizzylou · 08/03/2011 13:02

What about the triangle? Grin
Bermuda sounds fantastic, enjoy.

ZZZenAgain · 08/03/2011 13:02

ha ha
you might never GET to Costa Rica! OMG
