I'd be happy with Seville - this apparently makes me a boring limited old fart

But he is now touting Costa Rica - is it me or does it sound kind of risky what with crime, rip tides and crocs

oh and Dengue fever whatever the fuck that is

Anyone want to trade?

Bermuda is in the same league as US, Canada, Dubai. A holiday but not an exciting holiday.

If you feel brave enough then go for Costa Rica. If not, go for Bermuda.

Hullygully · 08/03/2011 14:43

With kids - Africa, North Africa, India, USA, Caribbean, Europe.

I wouldn't say they LOVED every minute of it - I remember dd (obsessed with animals) being particularly distressed by a stiff dead cat with a fag packet balanced on it in a flowerbed in Mumbai, but the good outweighed the bad on the whole - I er, think.

Hullygully · 08/03/2011 14:43

Mind you, I do love Seville too.

ZZZenAgain · 08/03/2011 14:44

couldn't face Seville in the middle of summer though. When are you travelling?

MavisEnderby · 08/03/2011 14:46

Crying with laughter at cat/fag packet thing.I got followed by several random stray dogs in Chile (apparently it is illegal to put them down there,so there are lots)but luckily no dead animals otherwise.Lucky kids.Best I've managed with mine is Turkey Hmm

MavisEnderby · 08/03/2011 14:51

Go to Costa Rica OP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmc · 08/03/2011 14:53

...end of July

Dh has spoken to our travel agent who has also warned us that there is not much to do in Bermuda.

You've won! - I've given in, have just spoken to dh on phone and said am prepared to do Costa Rica or Mauritius

Can't believe you've talked me around when he couldn't!

I don't think they think they are lucky. They would like to go to a resort with discos and entertainment.

MavisEnderby · 08/03/2011 14:57

Hully, they have had the opportunity to travel. You could always take em to Butllins in the interim, lol.Took mine there in last year of dps life, twas me pushing dp in wheelchair and ds pushing dd in hers.We enjoyed it.

Thing is I do truly believe that travel does broaden the mind, tis a cliche but true.I have travel envy!

ZZZenAgain · 08/03/2011 14:58

we have way

endo f July in Seville - unbearably hot, they get 40 degrees in summer some days. Rather be near the seashore that time of year. seville would be great for a short break outside the heat of summer though, I loved it

MavisEnderby · 08/03/2011 15:00

Hurrah,OP ENJOY!!and let us know how fabulous it was when you get back.

Still Envy

MaryMungo · 08/03/2011 15:00

Long haul holidays with 5dc were not in my remit when DH and I agreed we'd quite like a large family. Camping holidays and saving as much cash as possible for retirement adventures, and each child to get an educational weekend away on the continent with an alternating parent for their 12th birthday.

I we ever won the lottery, though, you wouldn't see us for dust Grin

Hullygully · 08/03/2011 15:01

Mavis - so do I. Even when they don't remember the specifics, they get a general appreciation of difference, of there being lots of different ways of thinking, doing things and living, more open-minded in general.

Although their teachers often also ask if their "what I did on holiday" essays are true. DS's last one was all about travelling in a cable car with three he-shes up to an Indian temple etc

MavisEnderby · 08/03/2011 15:02

:o

Hullygully · 08/03/2011 15:02

You'll love it! There are those huge blue butterflies.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 08/03/2011 15:54

oh wow - if I could afford it I'd be off to Costa Rica with my DS's in a flash Shock

(and am pleased - but perhaps a little Envy that you've changed your mind)

Lizzylou · 08/03/2011 17:14

Fabulous, honestly I am sure you won't regret it.
Am sure you'll have a great time. We travelled a fair bit pre-dc and we're just getting into holidays abroad again (Keycamp in France so farGrin) but when funds allow again (nearly there!) I have lists of places I want them to see.
Top at the moment is Orangutans in Borneo (we have never been), DH also has a Safari fund (but he wants to do an obscure one, Gorillas somewhere) for a few years time which he set up when DS1 was born.

Travel broadened my mind, my first non-package trip was India and Nepal and I think it must be just wonderful for children. Though yes, I wonder what will just go over their heads.

I have friends who moved to Costa Rica last year (father and 12-year-old son), and absolutely love it!

For a country without an army it must be pretty chilled! Grin

I've also dragged my child around on my travels (Africa, Brazil, Caribbean), he loved it!

hmc · 05/08/2011 01:08

Update - just got back from Costa Rica......and it was FABULOUS!
