Ciao tutte!

OP posts:

might look further afield. me and dp are very attached to follonica now though and we are both dull creatures of habit. Plus we and ds have made friends there who'll be there again so it just seems a shame not to go back. I have found one place which is available for all of august for ?2000 and am debating whether to take that and see if can sublet it to a friend for the week we wouldnt be there. What does that seem like price wise? Reasonable? I am clueless!
ah summer has arrived here anyway so cant be depressed for long! if it carries on like this will have to do a cambio di stagione soon
Good luck with the pipi training Rosa. Not fun.

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 14:28

2000 euros is not extortionate, no. It works out at what, 500 euros a week? Is the flat nr the beach?

It is summer here, ds went to school in shorts this morning! I am sure it won't last, but it is great!

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 14:29

Ah I forgot the pipi training. Good luck Rosa Grin

BananaGio · 07/04/2011 14:35

yes its near the spiaggia libera and pineta so location ideal. am feeling quite tempted, am also feeling quite tempted to say sod it me and ds will go for the whole of august Smile

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 14:37

BananaGio · 07/04/2011 14:44

am very good at convincing myself to spend money Smile

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 14:47

Oh just go for it woman Grin

BananaGio · 07/04/2011 14:51
Grin will wait til end of the week to see if our friends there find anything for us and if not will do it. 4 and a half weeks holiday al mare! who do I think I am! Better get some more work done to pay for this indulgence!Smile
OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 15:00

Oh 4 weeks is just the right amount of time Grin

Rosa · 07/04/2011 16:17

Yes yes that seems a good price for the whole month. We have 4 weeks and Ithink we pay slightly more than that - but here July is higher than August as all the locals go to the mountains for August!
Warm here as well the dds are ok as I have some lighterweight stuff to hand - DH I have to get teh steps out and haul down his box .....Bah humbug I don't want to ....but seeing as he is at work I ought to !

Sputnik · 07/04/2011 17:09

Go for it Gio!
Lol at Avon Barksdale's wardrobe. I have this problem with DD her size is a year or more older than her age and the choice gets less and less. I am pissed off with Zara, the girl's section looks exactly like the women's but scaled down, and the boy's trousers don't fit properly.

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 20:45

Che caldo! It must have been close to 30 degrees here today Shock. I was being upbeat about it all, when dh started going on about ghiacciai melting and now I feel doomed.

Yes, Zara girls is def a scale down version of the women's dept, with the odd nice bits, like a cotton polka dot cardi I saw the other day.
Again, Upim is quite nice for boys up to the age of 7,and then it gets depressing.
Z is ok. Petit Bateau a bit boring, but a safe bet, though expensive.
Dh is watching a documentary about a philosopher... che palle!

Rosa · 07/04/2011 21:00

I nearly bought that cardigan ! I bought a hooded cotton top from Zara , not the tracksuit trousers as they are tie up and dd1 is not up to not knotting them and then not being able to pull them down. I bought pink jeans but they are too big and a grey t- shirt with a number embrodered on in roses!!!!
Other than that it was a no for the dresses etc. Thank god a bit of colour though fed up with grey and balck for smaller ones. I agree re teh siziong in Oviesse for Minirosa I was spoilt for choice dd 1 I was searching hard and for teh older ones it looked even less....

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 21:47

Yes, I agree there are some colourful jeans and tshirts in zara which are a nice change from the grey and the dusty purple which area bit boring now.

In general clothes for the under 2s are so much better and lovelier. I think they do it on purpose, to make you broody Grin

Sputnik · 07/04/2011 22:05

Yes, what is it with grey and beige children's clothes ffs? Stomps.
As I'm getting quite handy with the sewing machine I'm considering making my own. My mum used to do that. Actually thinking about it she got my Grandma to do it mostly.

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 22:13

I don't mind a bit of grey, mind you if it's the right grey... but it has to mix with stripes, bright colours, and I'm partial to liberty prints Blush
It's the dusty purple I can't stand!

Yes, it'd be great to make your own clothes. I bet there is a world of textiles waiting to be discovered...

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 22:16

And while we are talking of clothes, I'll dig up one of our favourite:

The other day I was walking in the high street of Alessandria and saw a mother (all in beige with heels and a Louis Vuitton bag) pushing one of those old fashioned prams with big wheels (the pram was of course beige and spotless). On the pram sat le petit prince, a roughly 12 months baby in Burberry checks and sporting a pair of (beige) Hogan...

Penthesileia · 07/04/2011 22:26

Love Liberty prints. Am rocking the Arts and Crafts feel at the moment, anyway, because of the house. LOL @ Avon Barksdale!

Wassup, ladies? Hope all is well.

I set myself on fire tonight! Cooking scallops on a griddle pan, so had the flame up high to get it sizzling hot, and was so busy trying to keep DD away from the heat, I didn't notice that the edge of my floaty blouse had caught fire! What an idiot! Suddenly felt the heat. Cue shrieking and flapping and hopping around the kitchen, until it finally occurred to me to put myself under the tap. Poor DD. She was very worried. Ruined a nice top too. Comptoir des cotonniers. Booooo.

Also gave a telephone interview of sorts for a journalist writing about a controversial book, and I'm really worried that she didn't fully follow the point I was making, and that she'll misquote me and I'll look evil. Oh well.

God, Berlusconi is beyond belief. Item on the Today programme this morning. Incredulity that so many people continue to support him!

Francagoestohollywood · 07/04/2011 22:35

Oi Penthe! Smile
What a freight with those scallops!

I am ok, enjoying the heat wave. Im doing lots of volunteering work, some yoga, and currently enjoying Mad Men. And Liberty prints of course.

How's the renovation going and how is adorable dd, she must have grwon so much since I saw her (well, yes, of course she has, I sound like my aunt)

Penthesileia · 07/04/2011 22:41

What-ho, Franca. :)

Renovation a nightmare. We are currently arguing over the location of sockets and the subtle differences between various shades of blue and green. Hmm

What volunteering are you doing? Very good of you! Envy @ yoga. Would love to do some yoga again.

DD is a scream. She'll be 3 in June. It's a fun age, I think. How are your DD and DS?

Penthesileia · 07/04/2011 22:43

How liberating. As you can tell from my previous message, I have just now discovered the location of the square brackets on the IPad. Huzzah! Emoticon-city. Grin

Francagoestohollywood · 08/04/2011 13:32

Envy at your ipad of course.
I look after the library of the dc's school once a week.
I volunteer at a nursery once a week, so I get to get lots of cuddles from little ones. It is lovely.

My dc are now 8.5 and nearly 7. They are good fun, though ds can be hard work when he has a melt down (the terrible twos he didn't experience at 2, basically).
I think from 3 to 6 is an especially lovely age. Still so naive and enthusiastic, without being irrational tyrants Grin

Francagoestohollywood · 08/04/2011 13:33

Oh the location of sockets is a nightmare.

Rosa · 08/04/2011 13:37

Hi Penthe - sockets add more than you think you will ever need and even if you plan a unit or whatever in a certain space bung a socket behind it..... I am regretting not putting one on a wall that I thought we would never use!!
I hope the 3s are better than the 2s minirosa has some of the most amazing tantrums. She fell asleep before lunch so on waking after 45 mins can I heck get something sano into her. So I give up for now for peace sake and seeing that she has to hold out until later tonight for dinner as dd1 has her cooking class so she is eating a mulino bianco horror......However I did make Banana bread for breakfast !

Francagoestohollywood · 08/04/2011 13:41

3 are lovely, imho. 4 is even better. ANd you never know with tantrums, they always come to bit you in the back. I thought we sailed through the 2 and the 3, and now ds can tantrum big time Grin
