Its next week that we go. I have also downloaded the IPad App and when I opened a book on my Kindle it then automatically downloaded it on my Ipad . ( this was a free book that I had downloaded it at Xmas when in the UK. Now come to think of it I had the same payment notice when I was in the Uk for a 99p book that I bought ! BUt I want to use my Kindle on holiday - mind you I still do prefer the actual book in my hands but it is convenient . No sign of DH as yet he had an apt at 15.00 then he was coming home !!!!!

Hi Rosa it could be because with kindle all international users have to use Amazon.com instead of .co.uk. I am ok as I use my UK reg'd card and account but I think you will need to register for the American site (or Italian one-I see they have kindle now) or use a uk reg'd card.
Been out, shopped and come back to get warm! Fireman were out clearing snow, methinks the odious Alemanno is smarting from all the criticism he is getting re Rome's crap response to snow. Schools closed again tomorrow altho noone seems to know if more snow is due. I got the last 2 litres of milk in the supermarket-panic buying seems to be happening

Gio, a friend went to rome for the weekend, and told me that even the museums were closed, incredibile!

Yes we wanted to go to the planetarium yesterday as we were stuck in town but it was all closed. Kids off tomorrow here too, even though the snow is pretty much gone on this side of Rome. On the bright side the childrens party we were supposed to go today was cancelled :o I think the problem here is they don't have any salt or grit for the roads at all, it's just so unusual.

I got a kindle for xmas, it wouldn't work with my normal account, I made a new one with my parents UK address and my Italian credit card and it worked ok.

Rosa sorry to hear about your Dad, hope he gets the treatment he needs quickly.

Thanks for that I am going to try putting in another card as they replied to say that my card was being refused ( but I placed an order for normal things 3 weeks ago !). I need to get it sorted grrrrrr. Well DD1 is looking better and she is whinging about her sister so she must be looking up. Doesn't seem that any of her friends have got it so maybe it was a one off. It was snowing here but its stopped so we might go out for a walk.
Dad is in hosp and not going anywhere. The doc who has to do this op ( which they have agreed its needs doing asap) is on hols ( and he is the only bloke in the county that does it). Next county is full so he is staying in being monitored and I think its the best thing. If they get him onto a 'proper ward' in today then it would be better then I think he will feel more settled and less anxious.

Sput, ah the planetarium, do I remember well it's your dd who is into space, isn't she. I should really take mine too, the one in Milan is quite nice, if I remember well.

I am making lesso and brodo for tonight, to fight the cold. I made myself a leek and potato soup for lunch... brrrrr!

Yes and DS is shaping up too. I got them both astronaut costumes for carnevale!

Awww, they are so curious at your ds's age Gio, enjoy it and make the most of it. Such a lovely age, imo.

I loved the Planetarium when I was younger I think it was in London as my sister was into it all. I recall sitting in a cinema like chair whilst the stars were projected all around us I have no idea how old I was....
Last night I was actually scared for the wind. It was blowing 150km at Trieste and even though we were tucked away the force of it hitting the side of the house was scary. I went to bed ! It has blown most of the ice away now as actually it is a bit warmer. Wind is still strong though but not as bitter. Mind you it sounds terrible down south I really feel for those people .

The bora must be really scary! It is expected to get cold again by the end of the week.

Gio I will let you know about the planetarium whenever we get to go there, as we've not managed yet! Maybe this weekend, fresh snow permitting. It's near our house so we could finally meet up if you decide to visit one day. I'll be sure to post pics of the astrokids on facebook, Franca you'll have to re-register for that :o
Rosa that sounds really scary, hope we all weather the next wave of blizzards ok. I'm quite glad we don't live halfway up the mountain any more.

Well its sunny here today but cold. The forecasts don't look good and they seem to be adding alerts hourly they keep changing here snow / no snow etc. Time will tell .
Sput have you given up your house in the hills or jsut going there in bel tempo? I should be teaching am and pm today but minirosa got DD1 bug. However dd1 vomited twice in an hour poor minirosa went from 00.30 to o5.00 keep a drop of water in. Dh was working until 01.30 so we did the worst together and then he went to bed . I was googling dehydration etc as one does in the night when everything seems worse. However she is keeping water and fermenti in for now . She looks like a ghost. I refuse to get the bags out for hols until Sunday as i feel it is tempting fate !!!!!

I know, I know Sputnik, I so would love to rejoin fb but I am too worried of getting again into the habit of posting on current affairs threads where no one listens to you and the only outcome is that my blood starts to boil... I'd love to see the sputniks in their costumes !

We still have our other house and usually go there at the weekend, but with the snow it's probably not a good idea. Even with normal weather it takes ages to warm up when we arrive, so it's really not tempting! I am a bit worried what we'll find when we get back up there though, there's a tap outside I wouldn't be surprised if it burst, plus our caldaia, which is insulated etc but it has been really cold.

It snowed again here during the night, but only 3 cm... just to make Milan look nicer...

Your house on the hills must look amazing in this snow though Sputnik! Though I know it is a nightmare for pipes with freezing temperatures, I hope everything is fine.

Fingers crossed for you Sput as this weekend sounds as if it will be a bad one as well. We are leaving the thermostat on low when we go as we don't want everything to freeze up. Mind you as Dh reminded me he has offered out house to 2 friends over carnival as they couldn't find a hotel ...arrggghh I had forgotten, which means I need to really tidy up before we go .. Dh now complaining of stomach ache.
On a positive side I actually took time for me this morning and had a pulizia del viso , manicure e piedi and I feel pampered and great even though my face is still a bit red !! Its the first time I have done more than a pedicure in about 4 years.

Ah, brava rosa! Which reminds me I haven't had a facial for ages and I really could use a good pedicure

I am staying put in my nice warm apt, so who know what's happening up there! Actually I haven't gone out all day, the schools were closed again. Well done on the facial etc Rosa, I have never done one! It worries me a bit as my skin is quite sensitive.
I did some more cooking with the DCs today, they both really enjoy it, which is funny as DS still eats an extremely limited range of things. He does ask to try things we make though, which gives me a bit of hope. Then it's kind of too much for him and he removes it from his mouth again, but at least he tries. He does the same with chocolate.

Sort of mini apple and pear pie things, DD has a childrens cookbook and we adapted from that, they were good!

I find that works a bit with minirosa - she will try things that she cooks . Poor love started vomiting again last night , I thought we were through it all . SO out to the farmacia to get anti sick supositories. DH was feeling rough so I went and I was so glad that it was actually a pretty near one. Lordy me it was cold. However it looks as we have missed snow . I let her ride through the 1st bout but there was no way that I was going through a second lot - plus I called the guardia medica and her paed confirmed it this morning. Now that there is no consultorio they answer the phone sat am until 10! This is going to cost us a rapunzel doll from disney as she hates the supositories with a passion.....SO we have resorted to bribery. See its still nice and chiily in Tenerife........
