Ciao tutte!

OP posts:
Rosa · 02/02/2012 09:25

Its very windy today and I love my underfloor heating the house is warm ... Minirosa had a recaduta last night with febbre. She had been temperature less since Sunday so I sent her to nursery yesterday .... ( Bad mum ) however I have since heard that this virus is like that it comes back after 2 days and just have to watch if she gets a bad cough or very chesty as it might mean infection. So we are aerosolling right now !!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 02/02/2012 09:34

Lots of awful viruses around Rosa, I hope she recovers asap.
I have uploaded on my profile a pic of snowy Milan, not sure it really gives an idea of how much snow we've had... the road had just been cleared!

Rosa · 02/02/2012 09:45

Its still on the trees, wow are the schools open? It should be snowing here but its still too windy IMO. It will probably be snowing inland a bit.
She is not as off colour as she was at the weekend. I would really like to avoid the nasty cough that I have been hearing. Anyway we will see. Have heard of gastro bugs but the main one round here is just very heavy catarro , lots and long ... Which then goes to chest infections and such like.

Francagoestohollywood · 02/02/2012 12:58

Yes, schools are open. It has stopped now, all roads are clear.

Francagoestohollywood · 02/02/2012 12:59

heavy catarro here too. Mine are coughing, but so far so good... fingers crossed rosa!

Rosa · 03/02/2012 13:30

Took her to the paed this am and he has given her anitbiotics as she said she has red ears and also rumblings in her chest. I don't think she has a temp today will see later on . If her temp goes up then I will give them if it doesn't I am a bit hmmmm about it. I don't think she will be going back to nursery before we go anyway as I don't want to tempt fate. If I give her the antibiotics then its a course of 7 days anyway bringing us to Friday we leave the following Tuesday.
Its still mega cold here but the sun came out this morning so I went the long way home just to walk in it !!!! The Bora is still going strong and the Lagoon is starting to freeze over... No joke the Airport 'darsena' which is like a small port with 3 closed in sides has frozen already. Last time it did that was in 1997 we reckon.
Ice crystals are forming on the sides of the more exposed canals......

Francagoestohollywood · 03/02/2012 13:56

brrr very cold here as well, but it looks like the freezing temp will be here in a few hrs. Gorgeous sunshine and crispy now.

I came home after the nursery (where I volunteer) and on the tram I felt like the beginning of a cystitis, again! I am not as uncomfortable as last time, but I am not ok. My dlttoressa della mutua is unreachable. Thankfully my gynae has given me the name of the a/b I should take and mum is on a mission to get them. I will wait to see how I am in the evening to take them.

I send a big cuddle to minirosa, I hope she is on the mend. I agree re waiting to see the temp.

Rosa · 03/02/2012 14:02

Oh Franca but at least you knew the symptoms and so you can get moving on getting rid of it. Drink lots of Cranberry Juice and Also Cranberry supplements when you get over it .... They told me that in the Uk when I kept getting urine infections when pregnant. It helps against getting them. Stay inside and I hope your mum has luck. Next time when you eventually see your mutuo dott get a prescription on a foglio bianco and you can put the date on it ...YOu have to pay more but at least you have a 'prescription' Positive vibes from here.....

Francagoestohollywood · 03/02/2012 14:13

Oh yes to Cranberry juice! I had an awful attack of cystitis in the UK when ds was 3 months old, it was after 9 pm and the out of hrs doctors had been brilliant, gave me amoxicillin and recommended cranberry juice and hot baths.

Not long before yur trip Rosa. You must be super happy to leave the cold Smile and Envy

giveitago · 03/02/2012 18:01

Ooo franca - cranberry juice (but lots of it and also lots of water and tea) is the enemy of cystitis.

You've just mentioned on the other thread snow in central Italy.

OMG - it's bloody freezing here and I'm walking around like and old woman.

Poor ds went for an after school playdate and has to walk miles. I've promised to pick him up at 7pm (very dark) and guess what - the weather has knackered my little punto (best car in the world imo) - the steering has gone. I'm leaving now to walk to his friend's house but will pass cash point so I can bring ds back via taxi.

Franca - I find a mix of cranberry followed by water followed by tea (no milk no sugar - and pref herbal tea) will ensure you're on the loo all evening but will help flush out our system.

Wishing you all great bladder health.

I have fallen i love with my steam cleaner.

Rosa - hope your lo is better soon so she can get back on with her fun.

BananaGio · 03/02/2012 18:59

evil cystitis Franca - get those abs down you if gets worse. How's Minirosa now Rosa? poor car giveitago Sad- is it fixable?
snow has arrived in Rome! Rome of course has ground to an absolute halt. DP took hours to get back from work literally. DS is incredibly happy with it however and Rome does look lovely in the snow.

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 03/02/2012 19:56

Helllo there.
Giveitago, lol at your affair with the steamer! Sorry to hear about the car. I agree Puntos are fab. I used to drive one, in another time, when I actually used to drive.

Gio, I've seen the pics, it's wonderful! I love how children are delighted by snow, sod all the rest when I look at how happy they are!

I should be taking the first ab now, but it seems that the attack is dying down, so I think I might wait until tomorrow.
I couldn't get hold of cranberry juice, I drunk lots of tea in the afternoon, and I am now making myself a cup of green tea, or maybe pepperment tea.

Thanks for the advise, lovely ladies!

Rosa · 04/02/2012 11:13

What a pain about the car - I had a FIat Uno many years ago and drove round Europe in it - loved it! Franca glad that you are feeling a bit better , but don't wait too long for taking those antibiotics.... Also you can get Cranberry supplements in tablet form in the Uk I know in Boots , if anybody is going in the future......
Gio Rome looked amazing Piazza San Pietro all bianco . Mind you I still get amazed at the drivers who complained about being stuck . This snow was forecast and yet they wonder why they got stuck on the autostrada when they diddn't have any chains or snow tyres....
The lagoon is getting worse and today we saw ice forming on the canals big time. There is a photo on the Gazzetino newspaper on line. Still very cold and teh wind is still going strong it must be a 5 day Bora....
We had to go out as Minirosa has now developed conjunctivitis really badly in one eye. Its not weeping but is very inflamed and the other one is starting as well .. As there are no docs the chemist gave me antibiotic drops and needless to say it has been a battle to get the first lot in . Not even bribery seems to have worked but hopefully I got some in .
DD1 has a festa in costume this pm so thankfully a friend is taking her ......It will be me and minirosa again .....

Francagoestohollywood · 04/02/2012 13:59

Poor mini, conjuntivites now! Dd used to get it when she ws small and i remember well how difficult it was with the drops!
Yes i am also amazed at the drivers!
Having said that the newspapers conveniently failed to report that here in milan they were really efficient this time!

Sputnik · 04/02/2012 22:33

Yo, long time no see!
Hope you are all staying warm, we went out in the snow today and I've never seen so many people on the streets in our neighbourhood! And the park which is normally deserted was packed.

Sputnik · 04/02/2012 22:34

Rosa we used to get the ab creme and just smearing it over seemed to work even if they closed their eyes. Hope she's better soon.

BananaGio · 05/02/2012 07:55

lovely lovely snow. Sput was the same here, everyone on the streets and in the parks, was so nice. People walking down the middle of the streets because there were next to no cars. DS was beside himself (as was I) when we woke up to proper, heavy, crunchy snow.

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 05/02/2012 13:01

CIao sput, good to see yoi!
We are at the inlaws, we have about 50 cm here, the garden is totally white and there's so much snow on the trees, it looks like narnia! It's beautiful!
Gio, you wrote an excellent post on the other thread.
Ciao, hope you are having a lovely week end.

Rosa · 06/02/2012 11:03

Well the wind has dropped but its still very cold here in fact more and more of parts of the lagoon and canals are freezing up. DH described the back canals a a huge slush puppie !!!!
Sput great to see you - I did get dh to get some cream on sat pm and we have been rubbing it in. Sunday it spread to the other eye but I find I can get a bit pretty well in each corner and she lets me do it so today they are both puffy but a bit better.
DD1 vomited last night twice and today is complaining of feeling grotty but has kept down a cammomila and fermenti lattici. She also has small red spots under her eyes and on her face but I think they are capillaries that may have burst when she was throwing up as basically she was tummy down hanging over the side of the bed ! Thankfully she had woken an hr earlier with mal di pancia so I had put a dish there just in-case! So now we wait to see if it is viral and minirosa gets it ... ( And us of course). I did call the asilo and I was the first to report anything so maybe not... However seeing as she was at the party sat and 24 hrs later it started then it tallys up . ( We all ate the same things yest).
Oh and my father is in hospital again so all in all a great past week and week ahead !

Francagoestohollywood · 06/02/2012 11:13

Oh no, poor Rosa! Sorry to hear about your dad.
And poor dd1, it might be a stomach bug, it is that time of the year. I still wonder where ds caught his stomach bug last year, given that he started to vomit on the last night of the xmas holidays! So often it's difficult to trace where they come from! I hope she recovers soon, poor thing.

BananaGio · 06/02/2012 12:21

oh goodness Rosa what a nightmare! How is your Dad now? Any idea how long should be in hospital? Hope dd1 is ok and that you guys dont get it. When are you going away?
Thanks Franca re post - me and you tend to pop up together on Italy themed threads agreeing with each other don't we Smile
It is soooooo cold. Sun is shining and I must go and see if there is any food in shops but am cold in the apartment so dreading going outside. When did I become such a weather wimp?? I have vague memories of marching determinedly across the river bridge from the car park to my office in Manchester while battling with driving, cutting rain and howling gales at 8 in the morn and I take my hat off to my former self because I couldnt do it now!

OP posts:
Rosa · 06/02/2012 13:25

Well she has slept for an hour she is just drinking but I have to remind her. I envisage a slight temp coming up later as she has 'that look'. Now we are doing Hama beads ( work of the devil). As for Dad he has been going downhill for a while and was due for scans and follow ups but in a way I hope that this latest upset will get him sorted out sooner rather than later. I am getting frustrated by it all as I find the NHS so slow . Anyway my sister and mum are there and backing each other up and I am just hoping that all will come out ok. Dh has promised he will try and be home round about 16.30 so I can go to the supermarket and then despite the cold I want to try for the gym later...
We are ( note I say are) going to Tenerife . However it looks as if we will be going to the apt by bus ( at 5am) as the airport / lagoon area is still frozen .

Rosa · 06/02/2012 13:42

Gio with your Kindle do you have it registered to your Uk address or the Italy one ?. Thing is I keep getting payment problems with mine. My card is Italian ( and in Dh name) but its been linked to the Amazon account for years - but its getting refused. I have my country down as the Uk as I want to buy from Amazon UK. I have emailed them as I don't really want to use another card as we use certain shops for certain cards so its easier to monitor.

Francagoestohollywood · 06/02/2012 13:55

Rosa, I hope your dad gets the treatments he needs asap. It is so frustrating having to wait and wait...
Is it tomorrow that you are off? I think I've already asked you, but Blush, I keep forgetting! Lets face it, I forget pretty much everything...

Rosa, I have recently downloaded the kindle app for my ipad, and for now I've only downloaded one free book. I had to do it from the amazon.it, but they do have all sorts of books in english too (I've downloaded frankenstein). The amazon.it website says that I can keep the same details and password etc of my account in the UK, therefore, it sounds bizarre that you can't use your cc. Hope it helps!

Francagoestohollywood · 06/02/2012 13:57

Gio, Smile, it is nice to agree with each other!

Mmmm looks like you are morphing into a proper italian Grin. This morning at 8 it was -10 here.
