Hello welcome back and happy 2012!

Hope everyone is well, we've been skiing for a few days (never seen so many people on the slopes though) and are now back in Milan. Dreading the start of school tomorrow, as we got used to very lazy mornings Grin

Rosa · 10/01/2012 13:22

Am just about coming up for air ! Dh been working since we have been back so its been hard sorting things out. Have postponed teaching this week as I need just to get my head back in gear ! Have the fun of elementary meetings etc this week and then again the 26th and then lord knows what we will do .... I really want to avoid a sat morning school and also a 30 min walk to and from the school so thats 2 hrs a day for me ( well will help the diet !)as I will have to rush back to take minirosa in the morning ( so it also means finding somebody to come in at7.30 daily ) as can't rely too much on dh esp in busy season. The school that we will be allocated its 2 mins away has 2 classe with 2 good teachers and 2 that are bad ( they should be going in pensione but nobody knows when and they have a bad reputation ) as a result most of the materne are looking elsewhere but the nearest ones only have 1 classe and we will be fuori stradario so at the bottom of the list. The next option is this semi private one but the hours are so long and its sat. My concern is that with the semi private one it is such a ambiente chiuso that she will be limited to friends from school as she would not have time to do anything else to make new friends. Ok, you can take them out at 12.30 or 4 but when the school offers nice activities and the rest of the class are doing them then try telling a 6 yr old what she is missing out on. Che palle.......

Francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2012 13:41

Oooooh decisions, decisions, decisions... poor rosa I don't envy you.
How bad are these teachers? Are they bad because they treat children badly or because they are too old fashioned?

I think it is lovely to go to school nr where you live, because it makes life easier in so many ways, mostly because your friends will live nr you and looking at my dc it becomes very important for them to spend time with their peers after school.

And re the semi private: why do they go to school on saturday if they stay at school until 4.30? My do the tempo pieno, and sat is off. The semi private sounds nice if they offer so many activities. But then I suppose you'd prefer to collect her before 6 o'clock!

Rosa · 10/01/2012 13:48

They are bad as they don't teach the children .. 2 are good but the others no - Its not just playground gossip as just about everybody I know has heard the same thing...Plus some mums in quinta are not happy either !but you obviously can't request the teachers / classes! The 'bad' one is tempo pieno. The next one with 1 class is modolo with 2 rientri. This is our favorite as it is a lovely small school with a big garden but, we know there are 2 'disabili' going so that reduces the numbers to 20 . We are still ' stradario' but as it is linked with the bad one we are not on the zona for that one. The semi private with is also sat is a 30 min walk away and children from many areas in Venice go there The thing is dd makes friends really easily so I would like her to do non school activities not every day but she loves her gym club and she has been asking about dance if we were at the semi private one they would be hard to do unless I get her early.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2012 14:16

Oh what a mess! So you def can't put her name down for the small school with the big garden? I'd go for that one if you could.
The privata sounds like it really is quite far...
Is there any hope that the bad teachers retire at the end of the year?

Rosa · 11/01/2012 13:22

I liked the one with the garden yesterday and sta sera I have the one I don't like. The main problem is the private one we have to confirm the place now. The garden one is 100% statale so we will know if we have a place there after 20 Feb when the inscrizione have finished. We could just take the place and pay the 1st installment of the private one and loose that if we get the state one but its not a small amount of money to be honest.
Oh che palle this country....

Rosa · 11/01/2012 13:23

And we have to sign a form saying that we will not inscrivere the child in another school don't know how legal it is for the private one. Actually is not private its para statale. For the statale we know you can only do 1 school ...its trying to find out if we can with the para statale one....

Francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2012 13:35

Is there only just one sezione in the one with the garden?

No idea how parastatali work, let see if I find something.

Rosa · 11/01/2012 13:57

yep 1 sezione and we already know that there is one 'disabile' child going there. He is in dd1 class at the moment and so that will bring the class number to 20. I think he will get in there as his sister went there he is certificato , a nice kid but with a few difficulties.

Francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2012 20:50

I think that if it was me I'd put her name down for the small school.
20 children is the ideal number and there will be a TA.
How was the school you saw today?

Rosa · 13/01/2012 14:46

Well the 'bad' one was actually better than expected. They gave a good presentation and although they refused to give us any info regarding who could be teh teachers it seems that the one that should be going in pensione might get a 3a or 4a so that the prima would get a teacher the whole way through. This school hasn't exactly got the best of names as it is near a communita and often difficult children are placed there, However it I think is an alternative. I think we will be binning the private ( para statale)one on Monday as I really think that the snob value will be too much for DD ( and me) ( Also as my fake LV bag is broke) as well as the hours as they are just too long to have any sort of a life even though in 1&2a it is accepted that the children go home early. Lordy me if both of them went there then I would have time to get a job, go regularly to the beautician etc . Plus I would never see my children ....hmmm maybe thats why there is such a huge request there!!!!!!!! Anyway the next one is Jan 26th. DOn't know about you guys its cold.........

Francagoestohollywood · 13/01/2012 16:05

Glad to hear it was better than expected. Also in my dc's primary, when teachers close to retirement finish a "ciclo", they are put to fill vacancies in IV or V instead of prima.

It is difficult to choose, isn't it. I was lucky our closest primary has always been considered "good" (though even good schools have all sorts of problems), but next year we'll have to choose the medie for ds Shock!!! It'll be hard.

Sputnik · 14/01/2012 23:16

That sounds so difficult Rosa, hope it all turns ut ok.

Francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2012 12:42

Hello Sput, how are things?
