I always sleep on my front & hate sleeping on my back too! I couldn't wait to not be pregnant and sleep on my front again...but be warned, if you bf you won't be comfortable sleeping on your front for a while when the baby arrives!! :(

jbells · 29/03/2011 17:05

Quodlibet · 29/03/2011 18:19

Jbells don't feel any pressure to keep up with any of our news when you've got so much on your plate, it's fine to come on and rant, none of us will mind. Especially if you don't feel like you can talk to anyone in RL - you need an outlet to get things off your chest.

100years · 30/03/2011 09:01

Oh Bebe, sorry you ended up bickering :(

jbells, oh not long then till you finish. Really sorry to hear thngs are not good at home, and don't think you can't post in here or don't want to post in here if things are bad, we are as the title says in it together, and are all here for you through good stuff and bad. Hugs

nanny, well done on the Ebay winning stuff :) That's cool, and great that you had another couple of sick free days. Love that baby kicked for you after OBEM

Quod, sorry you are feeling so poorly :( That sucks when you are away from home.

Glad people are starting to notice you are pregnant WYorks :)

Went shopping yesterday, bought a few maternity tops, and tried on a few more, a couple of them made me look really properly pregnant,(had a little gasp when I saw it, like aaaw I'm pregnant) definitely got a bump now. Still not got any plain ones for work, and so I'm off in a bit to town to have a look for a few plain ones, if not I will just wear a few of the plain tops I already have until they are properly too small. My bump is definitely growing :) it's popping forwards so far as opposed to sideways and hopefully it will stay that way! 18 weeks tomorrow :) Yay, feeling pregnant now. :)

OHHHH WW Sad
but please dont worry too much. a small amount of brown blood is normal, in 1st couple of months. (implantation blood making its way out)
I had a teeny tiny bit at 5+3 (day i 1st saw my midwife who was not at all worried) and then at 7+2, (or was it 8+2?) when i was in hospital anyway with sickness. Again no midwife was concerned at all as it was only a small amount and brown.

Small amounts of brown blood is normal and usually fine, so try not to worry too much. Smile

Quod, sorry you are so poorly. Hope you are feeling better today.

Jbells, moan on here all you like, and agree with others, dont feel you have to respond to us, but moan away if you need to.

Wyorks sorry to here about tooth but pleased its sorted now

Bebe sorry DH is having another crap week Sad

Not much news here... sick yesturday and again today, 3 times already Shock Sad, but silver lining is i dont actually feel too ill. I think i have more normal morning sicknesss now which is better.

Hope we all have better days. X

will keep my fingers crossed for you, but really its only fresh red blood (with pain) that is really very concerning.

Im sure it will all be fine. How many weeks are you now?

I was so lucky that mine were when i was with a midwife that very day anyway Smile Otherwise i too would have paniced i know!

Oh and red blood isnt always bad news either.... when i was being very very sick, very violently and forcefully as if every muscle in my body was putting all effort into being sick, i have made myself bleed (& have a nose bleed too) horrible and scarey, but it never lasted long and all is still fine, again midwives not worried) Smile

keep positive !!!Smile

Oh ww, i know how you must be feeling. I had the same at about 10 weeks. I had an early scan too and as you know it was all fine. I was told they couldn't find any cause for it and it is very common.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and pray for you too!

Whywait

im not sure if you are far enough along to hear a heartbeat? At least at my midwife appt at 14+5 she found mine but before she even tried she made it very clear that at this stage (nearly 15 weeks) its normal to not hear it, and that if we dont i must not worry.

also i think you are at the earliest possible stage for anything at all to show up on a scan. (Im sure they will explain all that to you tomorrow too)

Just dont worry if you dont see or here anything as you are still in the earliest days, and even if they dont see anything, it doesnt mean its not there, or that something is wrong Smile

WYorksLass · 30/03/2011 15:41

Yes, as nanny says i think it's too early for there to be a heartbeat at all. At my early scan we could see it on the screen but couldn't hear it.

I've just had my workplace risk assesment. It was quite funny really. Anyway, i have requested some form of back support and was told they have recently ordered a few spangly, fancy new chairs and i'm getting one of them. Hope they arrive soon. Doctors appointment booked re: back tomorrow, hopefully we should get it sorted!

bebejones · 30/03/2011 18:55

WW - Really hope it's nothing & that all is ok at scan 2moro. Bleeding is quite common I think. Red is fresh blood so that's the worry, so fingers crossed it will be ok as it wasn't red.

Strawberry - How was the scan? Hope you are ok? x

DH has had a rubbish day...again! He left before 7 & still isn't back yet :( DD just fell backwards off the sofa, and although she's not hurt it always makes me anxious when she does stuff like that when DH isn't here! :(

squirrel007 · 30/03/2011 19:12

Hi all!

nannyl (and anyone else who has an opinion!) what's on your list of essentials to buy for the baby? I've only bought clothes so far, think I have enough to last a while now, so need to start thinking about other things :)

jbells sorry to hear things aren't going well :( like everyone else says, moan away on here if you like, sometimes it's good just to get everything off your chest. With only 7 weeks to go, hope you can put you and the baby first. And happy birthday for Saturday.

wyorks glad the tooth is fixed, but what a horrible thing to happen! I hate the dentist though, so anything tooth related seems 100 times worse to me :) Not sure about the sleeping, except that I often wake up on my back and I know it's (allegedly) bad, but it's the most comfy position sometimes! I read somewhere about sleeping with a pillow between your legs, and I do this now because it makes sleeping on my side easier. Not sure if you've given this a go?

quod the bug sounds bad too, hope you recover soon.

100years sounds like the maternity shopping was fun!

whywait I had spotting too (red though) around 7-10 weeks. I read that unless you are properly bleeding, with pain, then the chances of anything being wrong are slim. It is hard not to worry though. I think a lot of us on this thread have had bleeding or spotting. I hope things go well at the scan.

bebe your DH is having a hard time of it at the moment, I can imagine that all the stress is not good for either of you.

Things are good here this week - I've been working hard because of a big deadline tomorrow, but now we're on track and everything looks like it'll all be done in time. DH and I decided to go on holiday next week too - a break is definitely needed as I'm so tired from all the work. Am looking forward to relaxing!!

Quodlibet · 30/03/2011 19:18

WW good luck with your scan tomorrow, hopefully as others have said you've got nothing to worry about, I think it is v common to have brown spotting. Will be thinking of you.

Shit news my end; my company didn't get our funding, which is quite a hammer blow. If we'd got it it would have meant finally a modicum of financial stability for us (and a v small part time salary for me) but not getting it means we now can't have it for 3 years, so we'll have to carry on relying on project funding which is getting scarcer and is really unpredictable and leaves me continuing to work totally hand to mouth. In the short term this means my income past June when current project ends is looking bleak, in the long term with TTC plans it's going to make things even harder as I've got nothing to rely on or fall back on at all now, and no momentum keeping things going if I'm not working for a while. Feeling incredibly low about it all and finding it really hard to find any motivation or positivity. DP trying his best on the phone to cheer me up but I could just do with a hug really!

Sorry about that, having to keep chin up at work and finding it really tough!

jbells · 30/03/2011 20:41

Squirral. On my list wud be

bottles
steraliser
nappies (stock up when u see offers on)
cot/ moses basket sheets
pram/ pushchair
carseat
bouncy chair( i personally cudnt of done without)

Blankets
bibs
plenty of vests
moses basket ( i wudnt buy a new one tho tjey last 12 wks max)
Baby bath or bath support
sudocreme
wipes
cotton wool

for u breast pads and maternity pads lots lol
im sure theres more but thats all i can think of at mo

bebejones · 30/03/2011 21:11

Breast pump if your want to breast feed & want OH to give LO ebm.

I would say go for the bath support rather than baby bath, found baby bath useless!

Nappies - if you chose to use disposables, I personally found pampers newborn ones the best at coping with newborn baby poo! Then when they get to weaning supermarket own ones were just as good (and cheaper) than branded ones. But I'd say get a few diferent types so you can suss out which ones suit you & LO best.

Bouncy/Rocking chair - VITAL! My DD would only sleep in her chair for about the first 3 weeks!

Comforter/blankie - something that you can sleep with before LO is born so that it smells of you & you can put it in the basket so they can still smell you when you put them down!

Sleeping bag/grobag - also found this to be key to getting DD to sleep in her basket rather than chair & as she got older it became part of the bedtime routine & helped settle her.

Muslins - get tonnes!

Antibacterial hand gel - Milton stuff is good, and also surface wipes for changing surfaces...especially public ones!

Can't think of anything else useful right now! :)

nannyl · 30/03/2011 21:12

Bebe, sorry to hear about your DHs day and poor DD. Hope she is ok now

Quod sorry to here your news too

Squirell looks like Jbells has a good list. I maybe not the best person to ask as there are things on most peoples lists that i wont have, and probably things on my lists that others wouldnt have either.

Essentially baby needs a car seat to get home from hospital
some where to sleep... moses basket / cot etc. (I will have at least 4 changed of bedding)
and i like them to have a little baby chair thing too.
A pram / buggy type device

Clothes ie vests and baby grows.... LOTS! make sure you get newborn and 0-3, lots of each. some babies may be straight into 0-3 month clothes, where as others spend some time in small baby clothes before growing enough for newborn.

bibs (lots)
scratch mittens
hat

Muslins... LOTS (useful for ever)

blanket and swaddling blanket (if you want to swaddle)

Nappies (I will use cloth, already have far far far too many 75 Shock)
cotton wool.
most people progress to wipes but you dont need to. (I will be using cloth wipes too)
nappy type cream
cotton wool
I dont intend to buy any johnsons or similar products. In the early days water is fine, but ill get a couple of organic baby washes from my health food shop, and i can just about accept halos and horns products when a bit older still

changing mat

Baby monitor
night light

I will be getting a mei tai style baby sling. (dont like baby bjorns, and one of my best nanny friends is a real sling a holic so have taken her advice)
baby mat and gym (I have a thing for 'tiny love' ones, which are very expensive but lovely, got mine good as new from NCT sale!)

Tiny love make some lovely (yet expensive) baby toys. I plan to source from ebay etc.
I have quite a few black and white books for a newborn. (dont need as such)

comfy chair to feed
comfy cushion for feeding.

depending on if you want to breast or formular feed then bottles / steriliers etc etc & nipple cream and maybe nipple protectors (controversial!)

I already have a manual breast pump (that I won a few years ago!)

change bag (a rucksack will do!)

Ummm my mind is blank now but there is loads more to add.

and once they stop being newborn need loads more stuff!

bebejones · 30/03/2011 22:38

Just thought I'd add to my 'list'!

Scratch mitts - I found pointless! DD could get them off! Sleepsuits with 'built in' mitts were better IMO.

If bf - nipple cream, I found Kamillosan better than Lansinoh...but you do have to wipe it off prior to feeding!

Soothers/Dummies - If using/intend to use, get a variety of shapes sizes...they are not a 'one size/type fits/suits all' thing!

Cot Mobile - DD hated hers but other babies I've known couldn't/wouldn't settle without it!

Monitors - they all do different things, think about when & what you will use it for & pick one that suits that & the size of your house (Alot have nightlights built in)! In early days it's quite useful if LO is asleep in the living room & you need to go do washing up or grab a bite to eat/quick shower!

Towels - hooded ones!

Formula - If you plan to use, get some cartons of different ones. Again they aren't a 'one type suits all' thing. Think about it, you might like coca-cola but your OH can't stand it & prefers Pepsi...they don't taste exactly the same or have the same stuff in them!! Wink

I'm sure I'll think of more! :o

Night all! x

bebejones · 31/03/2011 08:10

Thought of a few more when I went to bed! :o

Use wet wipes for the first poo that baby does...it's like tar & cotton wool & water will not get it off! Despite what MWs & the hospital will tell you! So make sure you pack some to take to hospital (if you are going in).

Also you will have to take disposable nappies into hospital even if you will be using reuseable ones when you get home.

Stock up on laundry detergent...your washing machine is not going to know what hit it! Get vanish as well, the powder stuff for washes & spray stuff for soaking! Oh, and liquid detergent (instead of capsules) that you can use to soak really pooey stuff in.

IMO all in one 'snowsuit' type outfits are useless for really tiny babies. Especially if it is your first baby or you aren't used to dressing something so small (like I was). They are really difficult to get on (& off in a hurry) with a small person who is uncoordinated & not inclined to help you. Wait til they are a little bigger (4-5months). Get a good coat (m&s do nice ones that are reasonably priced here they have a couple of designs) & tuck them into car seat/pram with a blanket. In my limited experience baby will inevitably poo all down their legs filling said suit as soon as you have got out of the house!! NOT FUN!! Wink

nannyl · 31/03/2011 08:46

as for washable nappies in hospital i think it depends on the hospital.

My local one down south postively encourages cloth nappys (and provides them, while baby is in hospital for anyone who wants to try them!)

I read a tip on formular... see what your nearest shop, Co - Op type, sells and try those 1st, as it may be useful to be able to get some now and not need to travel all the way to a supermarket

Good Morning everyone.
Good Luck WW
