What's the next "make MN unwelcoming" game going to be?

We've had "out the troll" when a newbie posts.

We've had "PARP at the thread" when an oft-posted topic is posted again.

Anyone got any others?

i don't know what the fuss is about

Blossomhill · 24/09/2005 13:58

Which category do I fit into then?

Hooter thing has passed me by completely. I've not been on this week really and it's very hard to get back into the swing of things! Maybe MN won't be so hard to give up after all....

QueenOfQuotes · 24/09/2005 14:00

ooo - take your pick BH - I'm in the

Those that barge in without introduction - and to the 'untrained' eye would like like they've been here/known people here forever

and

Those that are quite happy to open their big gobs and say what they think, without worrying what other people think.

Oooh - here's an idea - why not just not post if you can't trust yourself not to let rip?

Blossomhill · 24/09/2005 14:01

Pruni - I have misunderstood, sorry . I am not in the clique you see so have to struggle to unravel the madness on here myself

QueenOfQuotes · 24/09/2005 14:02

Paolos girl - have you never been in a situation in your entire life, where a 'topic' or 'issue' comes up, but which ALWAYS gets you going......and made yourself not say anything at all???

I also thinks it serves as a good warning to others that you may be about to write a very long, and opinionated post

sorry - had lots of beans last night

zippitippitoes · 24/09/2005 14:03

I think mn is perceived entirely differently by different people, you sort of create your own in a pick and mix way,

Of course I've been in the situation (I just tend to walk away if I feel I'm getting too wound up), but the complaints here have been about people who post a thread that's been done before (how very dare you!), or the poor newbie who got a parp after she'd introduced herself. That's just plain ignorant.

bubble99 · 24/09/2005 14:08

But surely the answer is not to post at all, then. A hooter will either confuse or offend someone who isn't in on the meaning and why, in all honesty, should they have to read an explanatory thread on the subject in order to understand?

Blossomhill · 24/09/2005 14:08

Well said Bubble 99 and Pruni

Carmenere · 24/09/2005 14:10

The hooter thing is ill-thought out for the very reason that even though it is in itself harmless, if you don't know what it's about it can cause offense.
I for one have never had anyone be rude or disrespectful to me on here - but - I have seen it happen.

zippitippitoes · 24/09/2005 14:10

thank you Pruni

SleepySuzy · 24/09/2005 14:10

Am I strange? I just don't get wound up. I feel sorry for some people though, that seem to get "bullied". But overall, I just ignore a lot of stuff.

QueenOfQuotes · 24/09/2005 14:11

"should they have to read an explanatory thread on the subject in order to understand?"

But that's what happens in RL - RL conversations with larger groups of people involved are almost always going to contain 'references' to things which happened which not everyone knows about, or is "in" on.

Online is no different IMO.

Nightynight · 24/09/2005 14:12

yes.

bubble99 · 24/09/2005 14:12

And, to be fair, I agree that the original meaning of the hooter has been lost. It has now seemed to turn into more of a '4' thing.

Yes, but in real life you wouldn't dream of blowing a raspberry or saying parp or hooting if someone started a conversation that you didn't like, or you'd already had at some point, would you??!!! You be laughed out of town!

SleepySuzy · 24/09/2005 14:14

pmsl Paolosgirl!

QueenOfQuotes · 24/09/2005 14:14

no - but in a large group you can bet there's going to be a smaller (and possibly 'closer' in terms of friendship) group who have a giggle amongst themselves!
