I did go out yesterday, but I still feel very weak and a bit dizzy.

Euro, I agree with your choice re materna, it is another carefree year after all, no?

Oh your poor ds. I really hope that the school comes up with a good strategy for involving him more.

giveitago · 16/01/2011 17:48

Happy new year (belatedly). Hope all kids liked presents and had a good time and that all mnetters had a straightforward christmas and good year.

We were in London and then went to my mum's. DH came on new year day with biggest bloody burn I've ever seen on forearm (looked bad and infected) - we dragged him off to casualty and it's being dealt with (looked pretty ropey to us and to the medics) and it's thrown up other health issue that was on back burner but looks like that it dh will finally deal with.So all good for the new year.

DH sort of now settled at school and I'm plugging loads of extra swimming lessons as he seems to enjoy water (although cannot swim at all). LOL.

Hope all good in italia.

Rosa · 16/01/2011 19:26

Franca glad you made it out and are getting slowly better other adults do say it knocks them for 6! I am getting more stressed out ( whoever said that a move is a stressful things is right - Franca how you did it between countries I don't know!)However I got an sms at 12.00 suggesting we went to the giostre that were near San Marco. We went despite the nebbia and cold and dd had a ball. There were only really about 8 things but perfect for her and her friend . We then walked back up and stopped for merenda and a quick shop in Original Marines and Iana. She is now fast asleep. ( Her playdate btw on Fri was a great success!) Minirosa stayed at home and she has been whingy all day finished off by a bit of a runny nappy .....Will wait and see domani.

Rosa · 16/01/2011 19:26

giveitago - sorry hi and how did dh get such a burn if you don't mind me asking - hope all will get sorted out for you .

Francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2011 20:53

Giveitago, hello and Happy new Year! sorry to hear about your dh's burn, did he get it cooking? I know that chefs and cooks can hurt themselves pretty badly while cooking.
I'm not sure 2011 has already started for me, as I've been stuck at home for a week due to bloody d&v virus!

Rosa, I don't know how I did it! I guess I was in a daze while moving from UK to Italy, and also we were moving into a rented flat, so, I think, there was less anguish. On the other hand, I was devastated to leave our beloved house in the UK, do you know that when we visited exeter after we had moved I didn't manage to go and see my house? Sad

But enough with that. When are you planning to move then? Have you set a date? My advice would be to ask the traslocatori to pack up most of your stuff. More expensive, but trust me, worth every penny (and saves lots of fights with the other half)

It sounds like you had a lovely day with dd Smile. We didn't do much, I am still too weak. Dd went with my mum to see my db's cat.

Rosa · 17/01/2011 13:23

Franca I wish a ditta but as we are doing it in blocks then no its us and about 5 friends. I am boxing and packing then they will be doing the moving. Then for about a week or so we will be a bit in limbo and then be doing the heave ho with the rest of the mobile - not that many my worst worries are moving the fridge freezer and the washing machine - I will be wrapping them in bubble wrap as the staris in teh new place have just been painted and lord help us if we scratch them....Plus we have 2 bends to do ---eeeek
Hi Justfor. We have been chatting for over 22,000 posts please join in we don't have a specific topic anything goes.
Hi Buch hows things ?

giveitago · 17/01/2011 13:36

Oh ladies it wasn't me. DH runs a restaurant and they struggle to get pizza chefs so on a couple of days he did it himself (great being married to man who can make proper pizza!) and he got caught on the big wood fire pizza oven. He's fine bow though and looks like the huge scar is actually healing.

Hope you guys all ok. Horrible weather across europe eh? I'm just holding out till spring (my favourite season).

Just - I'm a brit living in London married to an Italian national.

Francagoestohollywood · 17/01/2011 16:45

Ah I see Rosa. So, have you got a date?

Yes, vile weather. It rained heavily for days here. Today we had some sunshine though, but it was chilly.

I want spring too.

I am still feeling crappola btw.

Sputnik · 17/01/2011 17:58

Been lovely weather in Rome the last few days. 18° today and I was driving around with my windows down. shoot me!
Welcome Justfor :)

Rosa · 17/01/2011 18:17

JustForThisOne · 17/01/2011 19:49

all my admiration to brit women married to italian folks Grin
any one in south east london?
dunno what to say, being shy Smile

Sputnik · 17/01/2011 20:12

Ah go on, give us your life story :o
I am British, been in Italy for 20 odd years, married to someone who is technically Italian but isn't really. There were a few londoners on here, but not posted much recently.

Francagoestohollywood · 17/01/2011 20:53

18 degrees? Envy!!! So foggy here tonight I can barely see the building opposite ours!

I am Italian, married to an Italian, we lived in England for a very long time. We are back in Italy now.

So not long then Rosa! Smile

Francagoestohollywood · 17/01/2011 20:54

Btw, not all Italian blokes are like Berlusconi Grin. You can find some really fine ones, if you search carefully Wink

cellini · 17/01/2011 21:27

Ciao tutti,

Rosa - moving stills fills me with dread having just recovered from our epic haul over from the UK, then quasi unpacking in Asolo, then re-moving ourselves to Bassano! i think i have developed an allergy to cardboard since then as a result of all those effing boxes. I'll send you lots of support come your moving day, but it does suck, and you're right, it's v stressful.

Franca - glad to hear you're gaining strength, slowly, although this freezing fog would have me back under the duvet given half a chance!!

Hello giveitago and justforone - i'm new here, too. btw, i am British, living with my British partner, and DS, recently moved to Italy.

Am going to a thing at our local, lovely arty bookshop on thurs where apprently people practice their English - if you're a native speaker they give you free Spritzer, i guess to get you talking! will report back, sounds hilarious i think. hope it brightens up for you all - or stays bright Sputnik!

Francagoestohollywood · 17/01/2011 21:58

Oh wow Cellini, that sounds great! I hope you have fun on Thursday and manage to meet interesting people Smile

I tried to watch One Born every minute o youtube, but bloody, greedy C4 has blocked access from Italy grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I would pay C4 direct to be able to watch their programs. Uffa

BananaGio · 18/01/2011 07:15

when is the moving date Rosa? it is such a stress, I feel for you. Just think though, wont be long til you're in your own house with lovely new kitchen done like you want etc with not a cardboard box in sight!
welcome justforone-I'm a Brit with Italian DP and 4 year old DS living in Rome. And yes Sput weather is gorgeous (smug emoticon)- feels like spring is in the air. Just as I am about to go back to the UK next week for 10 days. Sput when I am back lets do this infamous meet up! Franca hope you are feeling better today. And Cellini that sounds fab - anything with free drink is a winner in my book Smile

JustForThisOne · 18/01/2011 11:06

francesca / sputnik of course I how "technically Italian but not really" are the best in the universe, just very hard to come by older than 35 but new generation (or at least 50% of it) make me feel very positive for the second part of the millennium Grin

anyone in FLORENCE ?

Francagoestohollywood · 18/01/2011 12:56

I am so envious of your lovely weather in Rome! It is sunny here today, but so chilly, my hands almost fell off Grin

I am feeling better today, thanks. I even manage to go to yoga and do a ponte, so proud!

Justforthisone: Grin, I think there is hope, yes, I think all my male friends (age range 38/45) are all quite "evolved" and don't really fit the Italian male stereotype.
So are you in Florence? I am in MIlan, we lived in devon for quite a long time.

Rosa · 18/01/2011 13:40

So I am still the only ( well poss Cellini) in fog and cold and damp. I have had enough of it now ( stamps foot) but they say it will snow on Friday. DD is going to PLayhouse Disney in Padova on sat so please not that heavy !!!
Cellini the book shop sounds a great place to start and have fun !
I know Florence pretty well and lots of the surrounding sountryside spent years down that end - love it apart from Greve in Chianit!...Thats another story !
We aim to do half the move on Jan 29th then the second after we have got teh 1st half sorted a bit. My parents were coming over but mum had a really nasty virus after Xmas and she is just getting herfelf back on her feet again and I don't want to tell her as I know she will come over and probably push herself too much.
I have booked DD1 birthday party - Its the last sat in Carnival so I am going to do a festa in costume - can you imagine all the cenerentole and fattine ?

Francagoestohollywood · 18/01/2011 14:08

Awwww a festa during Carnevale, how lovely! She'll be over the moon I am sure.

Francagoestohollywood · 18/01/2011 14:59

Forget what I said about it being sunny here in Milan. Everything is now enveloped by thick fog. And it's chilly, and I have to take the dc to their swimming lesson after school. Boohoo.
