Tea Room the Fourteenth

Welcome to the 14th instalment of the Tea Room. It's now officially spring, and we've moved the tea room to a Gipsy caravan pulled by the tea room horses, which is making its way up the countryside in an effort to follow spring. There are of course hedgerows filled with spring flowers, Mellors the handsome gardener/driver/handyperson, the usual virtual Bishops, and the assorted animals and characters from previous tea rooms. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!) for general chat and the occasional very odd conversation. Climb aboard, grab a cuppa, enjoy the view, relax!...

Hello all - I've been puffing along behind trying to catch up - but still a bit short of breath from the bronchitis before Christmas (should I go and see anyone about that, or will it, like I have been hoping for the last 3 months, go away all by itself eventually???)

I've not been away, but had parental visit at Easter (including toilet backing up - only one OK was mistlechick who happily went out of the backdoor to water the plants) and then last week I took the week off to look after mistlechick.

You'll all be relieved to hear that he has been an absolute sweetheart - OK, still completely knackering as he has SO much energy, but in a good way rather than a tearing hair out way. We've been taking his new bike (he's now a 5 yo!!!) to the park in the mornings. Its such an improvement upon his old one that he can cycle up hill!!! And you don't half feel smug when your only just 5yo is competently negotiating pedestrians etc on his 18" wheel bike (looks completely the right size) and you're passed by a 7 yo who can just about manage to wobble by on a 14" with his knees round his ears

We have had to have words once when, having crashed into a pedestrian, first he blamed her (for not getting out of the way) then the bike (for not slowing down) - I left him in no doubt that it was entirely his fault - and we've not had a problem since... Was having problems trying to apologise to the person he crashed into and make sure she was OK and tell him off at the same time (he was in a heap under his bike at the time and got no sympathy!!!)

He's currently staying wiht my parents for the week and having a fantastic time.

And behaving for them too!!!!

Sorry I'm not going to read back completely, so I'm sure I'll have missed something.

And hello to the new tearoomers... nice to see some new people in here to add to the bunch

amberlight · 14/04/2010 13:57

MT, see someone about it! A friend of mine found she had something quite different, and I think Daisy discovered hers was some form of pneumonia, so get it checked out.

Viking long hall sounds good to me for the next tea room but I'm happy to hide in any tea room really.

Been in awful state so have kept quiet. Who's for tea/soup/other?

Jacksmama · 14/04/2010 14:14

I'll have some other please Amber

What's upset you? Why are you in a state?

mistlethrush · 14/04/2010 14:20

Yes please to the cuppa Amber.

Trigger mouse MT

I'm with the group that said "get your bronchitis checked out!!" Three months!! My word. That's not right. You need a chest x-ray. And possibly they need to test a sputum sample (always thought that was a horrible word) to make sure there aren't any nasty little bugs lurking.

ARSE! FECKING BARSTARD ARSE! MrThumb's laptop has been invaded by some ghastly trojan called sheur3 and AVG can't get rid of it. Luckily my ancient and very slow laptop is clean and clear, having more up to date virus etc. protection on it as I have suffered rather more than MrT from the bleedin things before.

MT - I know I told you weeks ago to go and get it checked out - you could end up scarring your lungs, missus! get thee to a quack and find out what the hell it is - and don't let him/her fob you off with 250mg amoxycillin either, demand the Heavy Artillery antibiotics. Go this week! Today if possible!!

Jacksmama · 14/04/2010 14:44

Oh no re laptop...

mistlethrush · 14/04/2010 14:47

JM - no, I actually ended up posting twice as I posted it, it thought about it for a bit, then brought me back to the thread without my post - which was still in the add message box - so I added it and got it twice, sorry!

Amber - sounds to me as though what you do is very effective and changing it would make it ineffective. Have they actually thought (at all) about what they are suggesting??? Please let us know if we can do anything to help.

Here is a selection of cakes to help you out - I recommend the lemon drizzle cake and the golden syrup sponge... both great comfort foods. Would you like another cuppa?

thumbwitch · 14/04/2010 15:16

amber, that is just plain silly - you do what you do and I'm sure you do it very well - changing it would probably make you more ineffective which would be counterproductive - silly arses. Glad your advocate is sensible at least.

Although you might want to consider giving them a refresher course on "how aspies react to suggestions of change and why this should be addressed sensitively"

(Please forgive the colloquialism of "aspie" - I don't know what official term you would use when talking to people professionally)

MaryBS · 14/04/2010 15:25

Aspie is fine thumbwitch

amberlight · 14/04/2010 15:38

I think they've just had a live example of how people with an ASC respond to suggestions of extreme change .

Aspie is fine for me, though strictly speaking autie may turn out to be the New Term Du Jour now they've discovered autism and asperger syndrome are the same thing (and low IQ and lack of speech aren't autism at all, but may coexist with it).

MaryBS · 14/04/2010 15:40

Oo Amber, we can be naughty auties

larakitten · 14/04/2010 16:16

Just to backtrack a little as I catch up.....an OSPREY CANNES?!?!?!? Lucky devil. Please don't say its the tan one....I heart that bag [is there an emoticon for sheer and utter envy, whilst at the same time wondering if DH can be persuaded to open his wallet wide].

Lucky lucky lucky you CMOT!!!!

On the plus, had a nice relaxing (relaxing?? With a 2 year old????) day at home, makes a change from hurtling all over the countryside as I normally do in a day as I attempt to sbe superwoman.

Hugs to all those ill, including the poorly laptop. Is it just me thats finding the hayfever season is well underway, whilst we're on the subject of feeling dreadful?

MaryBS · 14/04/2010 17:57

. Its been busy busy busy here, what with Easter and kids being off school and nasty priest (not mine, at another church) and being thrust into the spotlight at church and leading evensnog and stuff...

I hate to boast, but have just cooked my family a wonderful roast beef dinner, with roast potatoes, yorkshires, stuffing, carrots and cabbage. Am feeling pleasantly full!

UniS · 14/04/2010 19:54

ummmm, lovely roasties mary.

We had friends drop by at tea time ( they are on holiday) so I've done kids dinner for 3, friends are having a grown up meal when their kids are in bed, I have a defrosted portion of left over curry and a nann bread to heat up. boy is over tired and now yelling in his bed. objecting to daddy having gone out with out kissing boy goodnight after boy refused to kiss daddy as he was ebing a pickle at bedtime ( boy being a pickle, not DH).

I've just signed boy up to a term of swimming lessons, finally found some at a time and pool we can get to by bus.

RacingSnake · 14/04/2010 20:20

Aaaagh ... have just spent so long catching up on tea room news that I let all the hot water run down the plug hole and Wriggle did not get a bath.

Donki · 14/04/2010 20:58

Not only does the pop-up tent erect itself (but still needs guy ropes pegs if it is windy), but I can successfully put it back down and get it back into its bag!

Small donkey now wants to live in the garden... and did his best to stop me taking the tent down...

TrowelAndError · 14/04/2010 21:05

A sure sign of spring, the tent talk is starting! Can you link to a picture of your pop-up tent, Donki?

RacingSnake · 14/04/2010 21:17

I have never managed to get a tent back onto its bag!

Have had an interesting day, including lunch in a small tea room serving 'leek and potatoe soup', presumably made with real toes. (In quite a different sense.]

There seems to be a large pot of it simmering on the camp fire ...

UniS · 14/04/2010 22:10

yummy, leek and toe soup. just what the NMBs needed, has turned chilly today.

I seem to be getting hooked on geo caching, I've just put 3 in teh GPS to go and find at lunchtime tomorrow. seems a pity not to as there are about 10 in a 1 mile radius of the work site. I expect to be working there for a few thursdays, so this will give me teh excuse to get a walk in as well.

UniS · 14/04/2010 22:11

I'm good at getting tents back into bags, would you like to take me to festivals with you?

TrowelAndError · 14/04/2010 22:26

Perhaps we should have the Tea Room Festival in the summer? We could dust off the yurt.
