Tea Room the Fourteenth

amberlight · 21/03/2010 18:09

Welcome to the 14th instalment of the Tea Room. It's now officially spring, and we've moved the tea room to a Gipsy caravan pulled by the tea room horses, which is making its way up the countryside in an effort to follow spring. There are of course hedgerows filled with spring flowers, Mellors the handsome gardener/driver/handyperson, the usual virtual Bishops, and the assorted animals and characters from previous tea rooms. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!) for general chat and the occasional very odd conversation. Climb aboard, grab a cuppa, enjoy the view, relax!...

Commiserations to Roslily being the only healthy person in a house of affliction. Hope all will be well soon.

So Larakitten is sewing a proper quilt? Will you post a picture of it once it's finished? I like sewing now but I too used to avoid it whenever possible at school - our sewing lessons were spread over two rooms and I used to be in the one where minimal sewing went on, while we perused the scandal (usually involving Johnny Halliday or Sacha Distel) in Paris Match.

The t-shirt peg bag sounds very cool. I think you could sell them for a fortune at the more bunting cupcake sort of summer fete, Racing. Wilton House looks lovely but I had always (wrongly) thought it was National Trust. I now see we would have to pay.

Who was it who wanted a strong drink? We have Bolly, sherry, cognac, gin, a rather cheeky Pinot Gigglio and anything else you might want. Either individually or together in a bucket. With tonight's fresh supply of Twiglet Surprise.

RacingSnake · 12/04/2010 20:39

But it's only £5 to play in the garden and we have never bothered with the house. Take a picnic, though; the food is exhorbitant and not very interesting.

TrowelAndError · 12/04/2010 20:53

That does sound very enticing.

UniS · 12/04/2010 21:11

sound like wilton house was full of mumsnetters .. did you bump into any in the ice cream queue.

I'll have a pint please. And some more virtual chocolate.

Jacksmama · 12/04/2010 23:48

Hello everyone.

thumbwitch · 13/04/2010 00:02

ahhh JM - I feel your pain, I reaally do.
I had the same issue with DS on the flight to/from England, although they were very decent in-flight when I asked for the lap belt - if he fell asleep on the seat aside of me or on my lap, I didn't want to have to hoick him into a position where he could be strapped into the seat himself (and being asleep, he would of course have just slid out from it anyway) but they did also insist on him being back in his seat for landing. He was Not Impressed and wriggled in a similar manner; and I feared the Screaming Outburst but was lucky enough to get away with that.

It is somewhat ridiculous - the gap between 2 and 3, some DC just aren't big enough to sit on their own (mine still weighs just under 2stone, so he's a littly) and he would have been far safer, as you say, on my lap. Daft really.

Have a Large Gin or something - is Donki still around, she could lend you her galvanised bucket to have it in, with a straw of course.

Jacksmama · 13/04/2010 00:31
thumbwitch · 13/04/2010 00:36

To make things worse, on the A380 (flagship extraordinaire ) the lap belts are SHIT - in that you can tighten them, but you only have to move forwards or wriggle and they loosen again! not exactly what I would call safe. In fact, exactly the opposite.

GRRRR..

gotta go and get ready for visitors - I invited a mum from the toddler group over for coffee at 10 and I'm still in my PJs at the mo

TTFN!

larakitten · 13/04/2010 14:03

Jacksmama, thats dreadful about your flight. Little kitten is teeny-weeny for her age, but as you say, over 2 so would have had to go in her own seat too. I would have been raging at being told what to do with my child by some jobsworth of a Flight Attendant. I see where they're coming from, they have to follow regulations to avoid being sued in the event of something bad happening, but still!

I will post pictures of my quilt when its done, but I warn you it may be some time! I have a list of sewing projects as long as my arm at the moment......I make clothes for little kitten as she is teeny and nothing fits her! Find it a bit silly to be buying 12-18 month clothes for a 2.7 yr old!!! Loving the sound of the peg bag....I'd buy some gorgeous Cath Kiston fabric, use the tshirt as a template and sell them to make a fortune!!!

well, best go, got a pile of washing to get through before Mr Kitten gets home and wonders what I've done all day )

Jacksmama · 13/04/2010 15:03

Morning all (10 am Toronto time).

The night actually turned out well - JB slept from 6 until 8pm and then woke up, was up long enough to have some dinner and a nice bath, and then was down again by 10 pm. And slept until 9 am. As horribly tired as I was yesterday, this may be the way to go... I actually feel human and in this time zone.

How's everyone today?

Jacksmama · 13/04/2010 15:05

On the down side, I think I have a cold. Sneezing my head off. But I don't feel ill, I'm only sneezing, so I wonder if it could be allergies? Which would be strange since I don't have any seasonal allergies that I know of, and spring is about 6 weeks behind our weather in BC, so no blossoms or cottonwood flying around... so, crap, it's probably a cold. Pooo.

CMOTdibbler · 13/04/2010 15:58

I'll join you in that cold JM. My nose is running a marathon, and so is Ds's. I was pegging his Toronto tshirt on the line this morning and thinking of you there.

Zurich tomorrow to do a 45 minute presentation. I hope they bloomin pay attention too. The only amusement of the day will be playing spot the people who work for the same company as DH at the airport. And taking my new, lovely, handbag out

thumbwitch · 13/04/2010 16:51

hmm, must be a tearoom bug then - I too have the sneezles but also have itchy eyes - which drive me bats.

Probably tiredness - hence am off to bed now.

I should just mention that I told MrTHumb what you lovely people thought of his behaviour and he has since apologised and promised to do better. The apology was nice but not as important as the "doing better" bit - which we shall have to wait and see how well he does. Still, I feel a lot more positive towards him now - I'm quite shocked at how negative I was feeling about it all (and glad that it's resolved!)

AandO · 13/04/2010 18:30

Hi all,

Back online again! I haven't read through the millions of posts I've missed so I have no idea what is going on but it looks as though we have some new people around!

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the weather.

AandO · 13/04/2010 18:48

Has anyone seen Mistlethrush lately? I haven't seen her about, I hope she's ok.

Glad to hear you finished your indexing Thumb, it sounded tedious.

larakitten · 13/04/2010 19:39

CMOT - new handbag????? Do tell. I'm sucker for a lovely new handbag. I'm preparing to be positively green with envy here.........!!

UniS · 13/04/2010 19:45

Is MT on holiday? it being school hols and all that.
I dragged boy up onto teh moor today, Ithink he enjoyed himself some of the time. Dog tired boy by bed time and he was being such a pickle.

SO, mellors, get your pretty little butt over here and I'd like one of your special foot and leg massages please.

CMOTdibbler · 13/04/2010 20:16

I bought an Osprey Cannes. Am still at spending that much on a handbag, as I never normally spend anywhere near that much, but hope that a well made bag will last well. It has certainly swallowed up all I wanted to put in it for a day trip with no issues

The moor walk sounds good UniS.

RacingSnake · 13/04/2010 20:31

Lara, my sewing plan is even more cunning - to go through all the bags of clothes I have been given and make peg bags out of the extraordinarily beautiful and totally impractical Monsoon T-shirts I find, then make my fortune.

Donki · 13/04/2010 21:24

Of course JM can use my bucket - I was very touched to see that it was still around.

I have just succumbed to a new, pop-up (oh the shame!) tent so that I can go camping with small donkey, without having to bring along DH to help put up the VERY BIG tent.

I can put it up and down all by my lonesome - even with hooves!

Jacksmama · 13/04/2010 21:55

An Osprey Cannes - !!!!!!!!

Glad I'm not alone in my misery re having a cold. Am drinking a Donki-sized bucket full of immune support tea. Why is it that stuff that's good for you usually tastes like arse?

Disclaimer: I have no actual knowledge of the taste of arse...

Jacksmama · 13/04/2010 22:21

Have just looked at their web site --- at the price... but I totally see why you had to buy it, CMOT, I have serious purse envy now!!!

UniS · 13/04/2010 22:39

handbag envy... oh dear. I don;t suffer from handbag envy, I don;t own one or covet one.

I hope you like your new bag any way and it holds all you wish it to.

Hi Donk, you just settle down on a big pile of straw and let Mellors give you an ear rub.

Any one fancy a viking long hall for teh next tea room. we could lob bones at the fire and have shaggy dogs hanging about the place.

thumbwitch · 14/04/2010 00:08

I don't do handbag envy either - the one I have is a little like the Chamonix but without all the posh bits - it's just plain black leather. I bought it aaaages ago in a craft sale for about £35 and it's done really well! No signs of wear, neither in the leather nor the interior! Very impressive.

I expect MT is on holiday too - no doubt she'll be back soon. A&O, nice to see you back again - hope it wasn't all too traumatic!

Donki, I love the sound of the popup tent - is it one with a ripcord where you just pull it and it magically does it all for you? I want one like that. I don't like putting up tents.

Can you believe this - I am on the LinkedIn website and put on it that I was currently involved in co-editing a book - now one of my contacts has been in touch to say she is thinking of doing a book and would I be interested in editing? Well! In principle I have agreed (mug) but she hasn't got the proposal together fully yet, so we'll have to wait and see if it materialises. I shall try to avoid the index this time though!!

Jacksmama · 14/04/2010 04:06

[shallow emoticon] (re hand bag envy)

Thumb, step away from another Index of Doom!!!!
