Tea Room the Fourteenth

1000 replies

amberlight · 21/03/2010 18:09

Welcome to the 14th instalment of the Tea Room. It's now officially spring, and we've moved the tea room to a Gipsy caravan pulled by the tea room horses, which is making its way up the countryside in an effort to follow spring. There are of course hedgerows filled with spring flowers, Mellors the handsome gardener/driver/handyperson, the usual virtual Bishops, and the assorted animals and characters from previous tea rooms. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!) for general chat and the occasional very odd conversation. Climb aboard, grab a cuppa, enjoy the view, relax!...

hi all - have been keeping my beady eye on all of ye from my Venetian palazzo - would anyone like a campari spritz?

Anyhow, back now, from the fantasy world hard-working, networking conference. DD vvv pleased to see me and then immediately pissed off with me - at 14 mo it's not just DP I have to sweet-talk when I get home. It's lovely to be home, although I didn't miss the endless wiping and food-encrusted surfaces/hair/clothes

we are in the midst of a slight poo trauma - DD was fine until she was weaned and since then gets a little constipated, then withholds, which makes everything worse - culminating in screaming and pain. She eats a pretty good diet (plenty of veggies and fruit), and she drinks a good bit of water. We have her on lactulose now, which doesn't really seem to be doing much. I'm worried that we are storing up trouble - she needs to have a couple of weeks of easy poos so that she disassociates it from pain and distress. Any ideas? Any experiences? nothing we do seems to help - sorry if all TMI, but a bit worried about it

had a very long day today, between teaching and various other things, so about to crash out

it's nice to be back - and T&E happy to do a festival, as long as there are no stinky portaloos, and no stoned people under the age of 25...

TrowelAndError · 14/04/2010 22:53

Hi, DMC. A campari would be lovely.

Any festival held by or near the Tea Room would, natch, be the last word in elegance and sophistication. With impeccable plumbing. And (hush) I don't think there's ever been anyone in here under the age of 25, with or without intoxicants.

drivingmisscrazy · 14/04/2010 22:56

there might be some crostini around too...well let's keep it elegant and sophisticated and mature...

thumbwitch · 14/04/2010 23:57

thanks mary and amber for the info on terminology, and for the ultimate virus removal book!

I am having to use my sloooooow laptop until MrThumb has seen his mate who supposedly knows how to fix computers; and when that doesn't work we'll take it to the nice boys in the shop in town and get them to do it.

Now the clocks have changed, we are only 9hours ahead of you so much harder to catch you in the evenings (am late riser )

Nice to see the returnees back safe and sound - am also at the idea of leek and toe soup, especially as I bought leeks the other day with the express intention of making some leek and potato soup.

Jacksmama · 15/04/2010 04:24

I think tea is under 25... isn't she?

DMC - JB gets constipated too. Poor boo. Same screaming and pain. Thank goodness he's had at least a week of good poos now, and I hope it will continue, but we've started him on a stool softener, too. I always know we're (well, he is) in trouble when he starts saying "owie poopie"... His diet is great, I think (better than mine anyway, at least as far as fruit and veg for snacks goes [blush)], so I don't know what else to do.

Mistle - I didn't mean to be cheeky when I said "trigger mouse" to your double post. I'm sorry if it came across as rude. It happens to me all the time but in my case it's not the mouse, it's a hyperactive index finger.

Hmm. I guess that's better than a hyperactive middle finger?

CMOTdibbler · 15/04/2010 08:24

Morning all . I was regretting my day trip yesterday (out of house 5am, back 11pm), until I realised this morning that what with the volcanic eruption, I wouldn't have got back, and would be lingering at the airport.

Bag is black, not tan (much as I love that), as it has to withstand a lot of flinging under plane seats. Me and TKMaxx do not get on - it's just too chaotic, and does my head in a bit. Also, am short of real shopping time, so popping in to check for things doesn't work for me.

Had some lovely news yesterday . My colleague who has been TTC for 7 years is pg after thinking that it was never going to happen. Am so, so happy for her

drivingmisscrazy · 15/04/2010 08:42

CMOT I had similar thoughts - I wish I was still in Venice, but then on the other hand...also that's fantastic news about your colleague, amazing and you can't be anything other than happy for her, whatever one's one ishoos (mine are at people who seamlessly move on to their second child]

anyway, after 4 days away, plus a long day at work yesterday it's my turn to mind DD. So we are going to playgroup this morning and we'll see what the weather does later on.

Also in slight chaos as we have decided to move DD into our box room (currently my study) and make what was her room a study for me and DP, as well as somewhere for guests to sleep - currently they have to squish into the box room which is a bit much. Reckon that DD doesn't need a big room at the moment, and that we'll hopefully have enough money to convert the attic by then - and she can get to pick her own decor (well, up to a point) - so moving books and boxes and 5 years of accumulated rubbish/old bills/unfinished articles etc

jacks thanks for support - glad we're not the only ones - it's just really hard to see her struggling. How old is your DS? DD is almost 15 months

teafortwo · 15/04/2010 09:02

Sorry to disappoint JM but I am wearing my 3.0 plates and am not the pot smoking type!!!

I MUST go and clean. My parents are coming to stay tomorrow if I come back here this morning tell me to go away and clean more!!!

BTW... I thought some of you might be able to offer advice here...

teafortwo · 15/04/2010 09:06

Pssst - Congratulations to your friend CMOT!!!

drivingmisscrazy · 15/04/2010 13:00

it would be nice to be a stoned person under 25. DP and I seem now (since and leading up to DD) to be incapable of having more than 2 alcoholic drinks or taking any caffeine after 6pm - both mean that we wake up in the night (we have more trouble 'sleeping through' than DD these days )

DD liked her music thingy, although really she just wants me to walk her around...

bloody freezing here, what happened to spring then, eh? Oh, and can we have balmy sunshine for our festival? There's a great one here, Electric Picnic, which has a body and soul zone full of really fabulous tents and hippy things to do (massages, beetroot juices etc). Now we need to think about the musical entertainment...

DD has picked up our unfortunate habit of calling things 'cool', so goes round saying 'coo-wall' at anything she likes

Jacksmama · 15/04/2010 14:31

DMC, Jackbaby is 26 months. I have read that constipation is pretty common in toddlers... I don't know that I'm thrilled about that being a statistic .

tea -

Congrats to CMOT's friend!!

I was up way too late last night, got stuck reading the thread about banning the burkah. Very (!!!) interesting. Don't know quite what I think yet.

Must go get in the shower, we are meeting a friend for lunch... Indian food... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!

. I could actually do with storing some copies of Custom PC in there with you - DH loves to read it, but won't part with them, and does nothing with it. Tis Uber Geeky

Just been watching the film for the launch of the Big New thing at work (not my bit). V impressive too

amberlight · 15/04/2010 18:07

Thanks

I think my eating habits have taken a turn for the worse...

amber - that thing are still not good. Have a punchbag to beat up as well in the priesthole.

CMOTD - great news for your friend! Hope it all goes well for her.

DMC - have you tried taking DD for cranial osteopathy? Whne miniThumb started doing "big poo" he had some pain as well, despite everything I had done to avert it, and the cranial osteopathy did help (JM, is there something similar in chiropractic you can try on Jackbaby?)
miniThumb used to say cooool quite a lot when he was first talking as well - it really is the cutest thing! Now he says Ah-MAY-zing (he copied me one day and it stuck)

tea - if you're reading this - GO N CLEAN MORE!

Donki · 15/04/2010 20:16

Trowell - it is this tent
here

I was in such a hurry putting it away yesterday (due to a hospital appointment and a non-cooperative small donkey) that I discovered this morning that I had inadvertantly packed it away with the picnic rug still inside it!

UniS · 15/04/2010 20:27

we is now owners of a HOUSE!!!! eeek. have no money left. No pictures yet, will put something on my profile eventully for a breif period only.

Owt to get on on do some invoices and a bit of work paper work.

Teh tea room festival could have the very posh uber portaloos for those that like their luxury AND a set of composting loos for the green brigade.

CMOTdibbler · 15/04/2010 20:31

My problem with pop up tents is putting them away again. We have 4 tents, ranging from DS's two person popup (takes 30 s to put up, 30 minutes and lots of swearing to fold up), up to the gigantic multiroom that can sleep 12. All of the others cause me less headaches than the popup.

Carrot suprise anyone ?

TrowelAndError · 15/04/2010 20:34

That tent looks very cool, Donki. And an en suite picnic rug makes it even cooler, surely?

Do you want to talk about this, Amber, or would you prefer just to snooze under the smelly old horse blanket?

Anyone for Pinot Gigglio?

Donki · 15/04/2010 21:07

CMOT - I watched the video on the website kindly provide by the manufacturer a few times first - and it really does only take me 2 minutes to take down, a couple more if I have put up the guy ropes, and need to take them off again. The only swearing was at small donkey who was driving me (more)insane at the time...

Carrot surprise sounds tasty - assuming you mean food...

Otherwise is sounds possibly painful - or do carrots like to be surprised?

Congratulations on the house UniS - I hope that you will be very happy there.

UniS · 15/04/2010 21:10

carrot surprise, tastes better than you thought it would... mine is cake shaped and has LOTS of cream cheese frosting.

Righto, got one document sorted, now to do invoices.

Donki · 15/04/2010 21:14

Oh Dear! Was it meant for everybody?

CMOTdibbler · 15/04/2010 21:28

I think the suprise is that the amount of carrot in the suprise varies with the wish of the eater - for Donkeys, it's all carrot, for cake inclined ladies, it is surrounded by tasty sponge and frosting.

Hmm, talking of which, I now really fancy eating making carrot cake tomorrow.

Somehow, the video for DS's tent didn't help much. As I say, I think it is me that is at fault.

RacingSnake · 15/04/2010 21:54

Can any of you clever people go to this website and work out how I can print this voucher before tomorrow?
