Tea Room the Fourteenth

amberlight · 21/03/2010 18:09

Welcome to the 14th instalment of the Tea Room. It's now officially spring, and we've moved the tea room to a Gipsy caravan pulled by the tea room horses, which is making its way up the countryside in an effort to follow spring. There are of course hedgerows filled with spring flowers, Mellors the handsome gardener/driver/handyperson, the usual virtual Bishops, and the assorted animals and characters from previous tea rooms. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!) for general chat and the occasional very odd conversation. Climb aboard, grab a cuppa, enjoy the view, relax!...

awww amber - here, have a ((hug)), a large cup of tea of your choice and a horseblanket to hide under. Nothing quite so reassuring as horsey smell, I think.

Week where everything seems like too much? Yep, still having it. MrThumb has gone down in my estimation over the last week because, despite knowing that I was Up Against It in terms of time to get the Index of Doom finished, he offered no extra support. The guineapigs were not cleaned out (I had to do the poor beasties today) the washing was left on the line for 3 day and when miniThumb accidentally dropped a nearly-full cup of milk on me and the floor, rather than help, he just walked away and said he'd come back and finish when it was cleaned up, leaving me speechless with outrage. It didn't matter that it would only take one person to clear it up, what mattered was that he didn't even consider helping, he just fucked off. , oh so very bloody .

And, while I'm venting, he even expected me to edit a letter he had written on Friday - the day I was Truly Up Against It - and re-write it for him when I said it needed work! He was really miffed when I told him to go back and try again. All "me, me, me". No give, all take. And I have to put up with this forever.

thanks amber, it does.

Jacksmama · 11/04/2010 16:29

Sorry the week has been crap and too much for both of you (and everyone else who's had a rough time.
Thumb, I think we should take that last piece of Amber's Rude Letter to the NHS and use it on MrThumb - "smarten up boyo, because I'm not happy, and neither are my friends in the Tea Room!!" That should suitably frighten him into better behaviour. I was speechless at him walking away from the spilled milk - sorry sweetie, but what a twat!!!!

Is it Bolly o'clock yet?

BTW, for me, Twiglet surprise means that Twiglets taste like pretzels.

larakitten · 11/04/2010 16:29

Hey all, still recovering from coming all unnecessary after watching ashes to ashes. Hence the silence, its taken me all weekend to calm down .

Well actually, we've had such a hectic weekend....sewing class, telly shopping, telly installation, not to mention sorting out the broomcupboard third bedroom as a family/sewing room and washing, polishing and detailing three cars. Phew!

Thumbwitch, hope all better with Mr Thumb....sounds like you're having a hectic time too.

Little kitten has been a handful today too, she wanted to help wash the cars....came out the back door to find her about to spray alloy cleaner all over the paintwork of my car - yikes!?!?! Mr Kitten should have been watching but was chatting to the neighbour instead......

Our Guinea Pigs got to stretch their little toes on the grass today, first time in months given the 6ft snow drifts that have not long melted up here!! You could hear them wheeking for miles I guess, apologies for the noise ha ha!

Jacksmama · 11/04/2010 16:37

Oh that was what I heard! Guinea pigs!!

thumbwitch · 11/04/2010 16:41

JM, thank you - I shall tell MrThumb that it is not just me who thinks he is an inconsiderate twat.

Must go to bed now - am tired out. Night!

amberlight · 11/04/2010 19:00

TW, his status as an inconsiderate partner of the most mind-boggling kind is certain. And that's my opinion. Heavens sakes, mine's autistic and he's just wonderful around the house (er, within his limits of understanding and co-ordination). OK, so some of the meals are, er, interesting, and he once ironed a shirt but we won't say what happened...but he tidies, washes, loads, unloads, mops up...

So if he can do it with that kind of social/cognitive disability plus dyspraxia and dyslexia, and work full time, what bl*dy excuse does yours have?

Have a large glass. And something to put in it. Anyone else?

TrowelAndError · 11/04/2010 19:40

I have brought some emergency Cognac with me, for anyone who is finding that Bolly is not quite strong enough.

Thumb - The leaving the washing on the line for 3 days is just the sort of thing that TrowelBloke would do. It's a sort of cognitive deficit which means that he sees the washing on the line but it never occurs to him that it needs to be brought indoors. But as for walking away from a milk-soaked spouse?

Amber - Is that smelly old horse blanket comforting? I read an interesting piece in yesterday's Guardian about quilt-making. I think Cmot does it for real but, this being the tea room, I have managed to make a beautiful quilt overnight, which might come in handy for anyone who's taken refuse on the distressed chintz sofa. Here it is.

Gosh, Larakitten, you have got it bad! Pray tell all about the sewing class.

How did all these people manage to get sunburnt?? I was in the icy wind sun most of the day, too.

A little concerned about refuse oon the sofa.

M.Snake has a lot in common with Mr. T. A great deal.

UniS · 11/04/2010 22:54

I kinda thought twiglet suprise had pink angel delight involved and twiglets obviously. The sweetness would cancel out teh salty ness and you would enjoy a strawbery crunchy sort of flavour. This mayt be why I am a site electrician for a food festival, not a trader.

Good free food score today. hot choc at mroning coffee, hog roast for lunch, discount on the "hot duck dogs" ( just try to say it, never mind whats in it) and then to cap it all, at end of the day an entire tray of cup cakes from a trader... divvied them up between the various crew teams and teh sea cadets had about loads. they were very happy crumb covered boys.

I shall be inviting someone to come and drink tea and eat cake tomorrow, not sure who, I'll just keep phoning till one of my local friends says yes.

Thanks to teh tea room magic, I even have enough to put them on teh table there for you guys to share. very pretty they are too.

Some of your Dhs are to put it mildly - PITAs arn;t they.

night all, even you snoring under teh new quilt.

teafortwo · 12/04/2010 09:03

Good morning...

The sun is shining again!!

WAHOOOO!!!!

I think Spring is here!!!

CMOTdibbler · 12/04/2010 09:42

No sun here today . But it was beautiful yesterday, although a v cold wind.

We went to a lambing day yesterday, the start of which (you went up to the lambing sheds on a tractor trailer ride) was in a village we hadn't been to before. It was totally idyllic, all cotswold stone and post and rail fences, and then you realised that it all belonged to the estate. Bit scary and insular for me, but a beautiful place, and quintessentially english.

I do indeed quilt - but mine take months and months as I like doing very complex geometrical ones, all handstitched. I liked the article in the Granuid.

Coffee/hot chocolate anyone ?

TrowelAndError · 12/04/2010 10:01

Okay, everyone. There was a typo in my post yesterday. The chintz sofa is a refuge, not a refuse tip. Although I suppose it might also be a haven for those who refuse to have anything to do with their sub-optimal spouse. Any many thanks to DCMB for introducing the notion of the sup-optimal partner - it does indeed sum up so much.

We went to a very fine castle yesterday. The sun was out but there was a biting wind. I may look tanned but actually I'm weather-beaten. Somewhat like this .

Hot chocolate would be lovely, Cmot. Many thanks.

TrowelAndError · 12/04/2010 11:15

Hmm. Grey clouds here too.

Tea - I saw the thread about the Paris meet-up. Are you really going to the Hotel Bristol?

Jacksmama · 12/04/2010 11:29

Hi all - we're off to Toronto this morning. I'll be three hours closer to most of your time zones!

Wish me luck that JB sleeps most of the flight... unlikely, I know, but I can hope!

DontCallMeBaby · 12/04/2010 18:45

T&E I'm glad to have contributed to the furtherment of the English language. Again - my last phrase coinage was 'experiencing a shortfall in desired mental health status'. It resulted from someone objecting to a colleague drawing a line between 'people with mental health problems' and the 'mentally healthy'. I figure that like many things there's no hard line, just a continuum, and the problems come when you don't have what you want - ie some people are happy to operate at quite different levels of 'normality' than others.

We've been to see How To Train Your Dragon today. I quite liked it. DH back to work tomorrow, and I'm going in for a day while DD goes to playscheme. I hope she manages to stay the whole day this time, hmm.

roslily · 12/04/2010 18:55

Just a quick pop in. Dh has nasty stomach bug and is camped out in bathroom and Gizmo has an ear infection. Proper rubbish in the ros household.

Pass me a bucket of something strong and some cake please.

larakitten · 12/04/2010 19:15

Hello all, been enjoying the sunshine here today.......makes a change from the icy winds and snow of late! DD didn't even need (gasp!) a jacket (close gasp!) to go to 2s group this afternoon, and I had to put suncream on my poor white cat to stop her burning!

Trowel, you asked about the sewing class and the cars. The sewing class is a block a month, the idea being we'll end up with a quilt at the end of it. Already made a few quilts but always keen to learn more patterns! The cars....we have a couple of 'daily drives' - DH has a 1 series BMW and I have a Mini Cooper (which is my 2nd baby ha ha, I adore her!!) but our pride and joy is a classic 70s mini that we (somehow!) manage to keep running. Its coming back on the road this week after being tucked away for winter, new tyres, polished and detailed, new set of boots and she's ready to go....assuming she starts, of course. DH is always tinkering, oh how I love the sight of a man in big work boots, sleeves rolled up, getting all hot and bothered working on a car.........(slap me please ha ha!!)

Roslily, hope all getting better, little Kitten frequently gets ear infections...horrid horrid things. Sending hugs, wine and assorted chocolate biscuits to help see you through.

larakitten · 12/04/2010 19:17

*errrr that'll be a new set of LEADS not boots......thats a genuine, handcrafted typo for you all!!

RacingSnake · 12/04/2010 19:38

Lovely day; forecast was for cloudy but sun all day. Icy wind during the morning, but improved later.
If anyone is ever near Salisbury, go to Wilton House. One of my favourite places for the adventure playground built into trees and the ducks in the Chinese garden.
Would love to be able to sew (now - always thought it was too 'girly' when I was at school. ) Am very proud as I have just made my second thing - following the rave success of Wriggle's apron from a teacloth ... I have made a peg bag from one of Wriggle's T-shirts!!!! (OK, so I just sewed across the bottom and inserted a hanger to hang it on the line, but I am proud and even M.Snake said it was clever. )

RacingSnake · 12/04/2010 19:41

And, Tea, of course it is Spring. That's what this rea room is all about. Am very jealous of you being in Paris in the Spring!
