Welcome to the newest instalment of the One Parent Families tea room. As it's heading for spring, we're now in a nice warm orangery surrounded by woodland filled with spring flowers. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!), the tea room gardener/handyman Mellors, various virtual Bishops (don't ask) and a variety of other characters from previous tea rooms. Grab a cuppa, relax!...

ahhh, a motivating a glass of something nice has appeared at my elbow, fantastic. and I managed not to knock it over. the evening is getting better and better.

Now if I can just pull off getting to pub on friday I shall cope with the weekend. We will have in laws staying and its boys birthday party on saturday and I'm working all day sunday. nuff said.

TW- my sympathy, I'm pinning all my hopes on getting out and about more this summer, I want to lose weight but not stop eating chocolate. tis a right conundrum.

CMOTdibbler · 09/03/2010 20:03

Motivating bolly ! Fantastic !

Sounds like a trying weekend UniS.

On Saturday we have family of five coming to visit (well, they are using the free passes we got to localattraction with our annual passes). The mother is a somewhat trying attention seeker, but bloke is a dear (if ineffectual) friend. But on Sunday we are going to the geegees - countryside day at localish racecourse, so jump racing and attractions.

RacingSnake · 09/03/2010 20:04

Yes, I was wondering at the point of inventing a gadget that lets you float the cursor over a name so that you can see ... the same name.

TW, I know exactly how you feel re The Entity. I tryto put it down to the freezing weather and long dark evenings, but that doesn't quite work in your case, so there must be a different cause.

I now jobshare with The Colleague From Hell, who did untold damage to staff morale (most left), caused mediators to be brought in, fooled them completely and is sadly still doing harm to children. Who don't get a second chance at primary school. Strangely, jobsharing is not so bad, since I see her less, just lots of little niggles, such as having to hide all signs of my presence and carry all belongings with me at all times, she takes resources home, etc. And never knowing what she will say/do to me ....

MindySimmons · 09/03/2010 22:04

Reading all your work woes, I feel so incredibly grateful to run my own business and that for all the stress and worry during the last year or so, you've reminded me of the realities of corporate life.

Sending Mellors out for more Merlot and Green & Blacks for all and if any of you get the opportunity to go it alone, Mindy endorses it whole heartedly!

TrowelAndError · 09/03/2010 22:06

The Entity? Ahem. I find Giant Elastic Pants quite useful in that regard. < [restricted blood flow emoticon>

Come on everyone, give yourselves a status update. 'Tis so easy even I could do it. They're all the rage you know.

MindySimmons · 09/03/2010 22:19

Done!

UniS · 09/03/2010 22:31

done it too.

thumbwitch · 09/03/2010 22:38

oh ok, I did it too.

Mary - it wasn't meant to be a euphemism but hey, if it works for you...!

T&E - Big Pants don't reach the important bit, sadly - it is actually my stomach rather than my belly which is overinflated (although the belly isn't far behind). I have fat ribs. I hate it. And it's so unhealthy - it's the "apple" shape that is so dangerous in regards to heart health etc.
Y'see, I know this and yet still the siren call of the chocolate is too strong...

RS - inactivity is still rife here when it's too hot - can't actually go out in anything tother than the car, we just sit around in the air con. Now it is getting cooler I am hoping that things will improve as well.

Jacksmama · 10/03/2010 04:15

Holy cow, I managed the status update thingy!!

Even better... I'm on MN, in the Tea Room, two nights running!!

As you can see from my status update , DH is away and DS is asleep, and it's just after 8 pm here... I'm meant to be doing paperwork, and, in fact, was doing paperwork until the MN server came back online... now I'm just looking to see if anyone's up and around to chat.

We seem to have some newcomers. Or maybe I've been away for so long that I don't recognize name-changing regulars. Trowelanderror? Mindysimmons? Pleased o meet you or "hello" from the long-lost...

DH is in Portland, Oregon, for a course this week. We got up at 4:30 am to take him to the train station in Fairhaven (about an hour's drive south of here, in the U.S.) this morning. Then DS went to daycare (nursery) where a little friend of his goes, and of course didn't nap, and as a result fell asleep just before 7 am. I hope all the gods of toddler sleep are with me so he doesn't wake up at 4:30 am tomorrow... gah!!! It's just me, all by myself, with him this week, and if Jacksmama is sleep-deprived, it's not pretty . DS was such a cuddly sleeper (co-slept) that I never had that "my newborn isn't sleeping and I'm in the land of the living dead" thing going... and to this day I don't deal well with sleep-deprivation.

thumbwitch · 10/03/2010 04:59

JM - you do know both of them - Mindy has already outed herself on this thread as being LJHooray so I doubt she'll mind me saying so; T&E is somewhat insane and has been known to be a bit on the risky side (hope that was oblique enough for you, T&E?)

Having just answered you on the other thread about living the dream, I can now work out how far ahead in time I am from you - it seems that you are 8 hours behind UK time, so that makes you 19hours behind me, almost a complete day!! So, I'm guessing you're either curled up with chocolate, wine and a good film or just on your way to bed now

bummer about the paperwork!

We are near Sydney, only 1.5h away. Much less traumatic weatherwise than being near Melbourne, and it's bad enough here!

Jacksmama · 10/03/2010 05:10

Oh dear - thank you Thumb - I've obviously been away too long because I don't know what that's all about but just reported said post and asked for it to be deleted.

Jacksmama · 10/03/2010 05:11

Oh dear... I don't know what that's all about but will do... thanks!!

Jacksmama · 10/03/2010 05:13

Oops double post - how did that happen...

I got an iPhone recently and you can add weather data from cities around the world, as well as time zones... so I have just added Sydney to my cities so I'll always know what time it is where you are!

thumbwitch · 10/03/2010 05:17

more bizarre still - I actually posted a reply and it's disappeared!

It just said "cool bananas, I'll get mine done now as well". Then all is well again, I hope!

I visited some girlfriends while I was in the UK - all of them except me had an iPhone, and they all put it onto the Star Wars light sabre and started play fighting with them. They're not young either, same sort of age as we are

Jacksmama · 10/03/2010 05:21

I to admit I have that on my iPhone as well... [ grin] - however, it wasn't me who put it on, it was DH who is StarWars mad!!!

Jacksmama · 10/03/2010 05:28

Thumb, will you email me please - dr underscore anuschka at shaw dot ca. Thanks!

MaryBS · 10/03/2010 08:26

AandO, I find I can express my feelings to my boss because firstly, he was a friend before my boss, and secondly its voluntary work, so although it would be incredibly difficult, in a small village, to fall out with him, its not as if I get paid for what I do...

Anyone like to join me in coffee and croissants?

thumbwitch · 10/03/2010 08:55

JM - sorry, RL intervened for a couple of hours, will email you shortly so you'll get it in the morning now, I expect!

Just finished an incredibly filling bowl of soup with sausages in for dinner - yum - but will have virtual coffee with you Mary.
Hope you're feeling a bit brighter and less put upon today

AandO · 10/03/2010 10:40

Morning! Coffee and croissants sound great.

Where is the living the dream thread? I am not living the dream, but will one day....

Mindy (by the way I always feel weird calling people by new names, in my head they are still known by the name I knew first, if that makes sense! But I figure I'd better use the new names as I don't want people to have to keep changing them then), anyway, I work for myself. I love the flexibility and freedom, but find the finances side of it hard, don't really understand money and am never sure what's going on finance wise...each time I try to figure things out I get a different result .

Being friends must help Mary, but I suppose in a way it could also make it worse when you disagree on something. Same with working with family. My sister works for my dad and so gets really really upset when they disagree in work.

AandO · 10/03/2010 10:42

Damn it, I can't work the status thing!

Please make me go for a run today ladies...have not excercised in about 6 months !!!

CMOTdibbler · 10/03/2010 12:48

Unmotivated day. Not helped by the outsourced engineers deciding to do things the way they fancy, not the spec. Bah.
