Welcome to the newest instalment of the One Parent Families tea room. As it's heading for spring, we're now in a nice warm orangery surrounded by woodland filled with spring flowers. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!), the tea room gardener/handyman Mellors, various virtual Bishops (don't ask) and a variety of other characters from previous tea rooms. Grab a cuppa, relax!...

yo all. some boys do seem to need a LOT of exercise to de-bounce don;t they.
We swing from boy bouncing off the walls to being knackered and quiet depending on how far we walked/ cycled him the day before.

Ballet today and circuits at preschool so he might be bearable tomorrow. Had his flu jab today too, so has been calpoled and tucked up in bed.

Does Mistle chick walk to school?

I'll have a concrete and custard!

amberlight · 09/02/2010 20:18

A plate of boiled concrete would be lovely

Am sternly turning a blind eye to talk of school dinners - the mere mention makes me feel sick as we too had to eat whatever was on offer, and I was a rather sickly child, especially in reaction to anything I didn't like.

Whole house is coughing now. yeuch.

Welcome to the RacingRubyBabies

MellorstheGardener · 09/02/2010 21:13

Ladies. I have erected the massage table behind the aspidistra. Mary, would you like to go first?

MaryBS · 09/02/2010 21:34

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Jacksmama · 09/02/2010 21:57

LOL @ "one more bug we're immune against" - your lips, God's ear, Catita!!

Am just stopping in briefly whilst stuffing my face - marathon 17-patient-day to make up for being ill on Thurs. Have some cheeky wine for me, everyone!

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 09/02/2010 22:02

Good heavens. Mary's purring like the cat who got the cream!

Could I have a glass of something cheeky and presumptuous, please?

UniS · 09/02/2010 22:44

nice cocktail there. I'll join you in a "cheeky & presumptuous" .

Mary is now snoring I think.... guess the melllors touch worked it magic.

mistlethrush · 10/02/2010 00:53

17 patients JM - take it easy -you'!re still recovering!!!!

Had another talk to mistlechick's teacher today. OK< had a cry at her. Already had had a cry at boss, and mum from book group - so thought I may as well add her....

Mistlechick had a GOOD day at school today - three smilies - which meant that all three sessions at school were 'good'. his teacher did say that she and the TA had to put a lot of input and encouragement (but the mum of pfb in me says, I don't care, if that's what it takes, that's what you've got to do!)

Boss also knows that the thing that made me react last week REALLY cut to the bone, attacked my integrity (sp?), and I had to react to it or take the place as the carpet.

Unusually, got an invite out to a concert which I accepted before realising dh had a rehearsal. But got reliable dog walker/babysiter/ general factotum to come and babysit - mistlechick tried it on with her - 'i'm not sleepy' and ' you can't ring mummy or daddy because you would disturb the concert'. Luckily, quick thinking bs had the response - 'it wouldn't be me disturbing the concert - it would be you!' Ds had a hug and went to sleep!!!!!

mistlethrush · 10/02/2010 11:28

Anyone else for a big hot mug of something and a danish or croissant? Fingers being crossed here that mistlechick has another reasonable day - I'm not setting expectations too high and said that as long as he is generally good I'll be pleased - the odd little bit of being overboisterous can't be helped sometimes (I've not said that to him!) but as long as we're not getting so many big issues, I'll be pleased.

MaryBS · 10/02/2010 11:41

Here's hoping for another good day for mistlechick...

coffee and a danish sound good, although as its approaching lunchtime, I was thinking bacon sandwich...

mistlethrush · 10/02/2010 12:05

So, we're alternating between snow and sunshine here.... Anyone else with extremes of weather too?

amberlight · 10/02/2010 12:45

Snow...sun...snow...sun....yup.

Yes please to coffee, danish, and bacon sarnies

daisy99divine · 10/02/2010 14:54

Hello!

Coffee and bacon sandwich here please!

Snow/ sun/ freezing wind/ blue sky - that's us!

CMOTdibbler · 10/02/2010 17:13

V snowy here, but am in Switzerland

Colleague and I are going to go and have a couple of glasses of wine in a bit to fortify ourselves against the next couple of days of meeting

Fingers crossed for Mistlechick. DS was v happy yesterday to have been doing a dragon dance and counting in Mandarin

mistlethrush · 10/02/2010 19:01

Mistlechick had another fairly positive day! Luckily the teacher isn't being too strict with her interpretation of good and he has come away with three smilies again.

He tried it on with the babysitter last night (who was under strict instructions to make sure he didn't) but she managed to get him cooperating by threatening to ring us - he said 'she would interupt the concert' - she said it wouldn't be her, it would be him - at which point he settled down and went to bed! Pretty perceptive and good at working out consequences though for a not quite 5yo.

multipack of yoghurts split in my bag on the way to work this morning. Delightful!

mistlethrush · 10/02/2010 19:02

Whereabouts in Switzerland CMot? My grandmother was born at Spietz - I've got relatives in Bern and Zurich, and my BiL now also lives in Zurich...

UniS · 10/02/2010 20:22

GO MTChick, Go MTchick. heres hoping for another goodun.

Boy and I went to soft play barn this afternoon with a CM friend and 3 of her mindees. Boy knows all three, so a good time was had by small children running up and down and sliding. I DID remember to congratulate boy for not reacting when an unknown child pushed him in the face, he just walked away from her. I was Sooooo proud of him.

Mines a ginger beer, a large hot choc, and a plate of tiffin. Tis cold tonight. I shall nestle down under a blanket on teh distressed chintz sofa and read a while.

CMOTdibbler · 10/02/2010 20:35

It's a half hour train ride from Zurich airport, in the direction of Basle. Strangely, we have just been out for spanish food as we met a whole load of other people from our company (some of whom we are meeting with, some not) in the lobby

Hurrah for well behaved children

mistlethrush · 10/02/2010 20:50

UniS - its great is't it when they do something like that which is just the thing that you have talked about - not retaliating etc - last summer ds saw his friend being hit but a fellow party goer (not from school though) - he ran up, put his arm in front of his friend and the two of them faced the small bully down, waited until he had been put of a bit, then the two of them skiddadled.

MaryBS · 10/02/2010 21:22

Chocolates anyone?

UniS · 10/02/2010 21:41

ohh please.
The choc box of requirement. how fantastic, I'll have a plain one, with a coffee cream centre.

thumbwitch · 11/02/2010 00:44

just checking in quickly - we are flying back to Aussieland tomorrow morning. We have to leave the house by 8:15 latest to get through the traffic to Terminal 3 at H'row. God I hate T3!

And don't talk to me about packing - urgh. I'm sure I need to repack the suitcases, move some of the smaller heavy stuff into miniThumb's smaller suitcase, to free up space for our nightclothes in my larger suitcase without sending it over the weight limit . No time though! It's up at 6:30 and then go go go until we leave...

Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

See you on the dark side..

MaryBS · 11/02/2010 08:17

Safe journey thumbwitch

LOL at chocolate box of requirement, what a fantastic idea! I'll go for a Belgian truffle. Have been addicted to those ever since I went to Bruges and went into a chocolate shop where you could see (and smell) large vats of melted chocolate being stirred. Just dive in! Beats a chocolate fountain any day!

mistlethrush · 11/02/2010 09:29

Safe journey TW!
