Welcome to the newest instalment of the One Parent Families tea room. As it's heading for spring, we're now in a nice warm orangery surrounded by woodland filled with spring flowers. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!), the tea room gardener/handyman Mellors, various virtual Bishops (don't ask) and a variety of other characters from previous tea rooms. Grab a cuppa, relax!...

Morning all,

Glad Mistlechicks day went well yesterday .

I skived off work yesterday and dh off uni and we went to see Avatar ! Since ds has been born we have often said we should let him go to childminder as usual but instead of us working we should go see a matinee, but this is the first time we've actually done it! It was lovely to see a grown up film in the cinema, I haven't been to see anything other than kids films in years! I would recommend skipping work for a day and hanging around having no kids time!

In potty training news, ds is weeing on the loo for school and childminder (but not for me , he is wetting himself about twice a day and only pooing into his pants (refuses to poo on loo). He is also refusing to wear a nighttime nappy, saying that he wears underpants now not nappies. It means he sleeps on a towel, and we have to try to sneak a nappy on him in his sleep as he was just getting soaked and requiring frequent bedsheet and pjs changes during the night.

Coffee anyone?

mistlethrush · 11/02/2010 10:49

That's really wearing A&O. Although I would certainly be spouting the line, if you're old enough to wear underpants you're old enough to poo on the loo. And if you're not old enough to poo on the loo and do it in your underpants, you will have to wear a night-time nappy. But ds was good at logical discussions like that from an early age. Mind you, we had some fantastic washable training pants which we used as 'nighttime pants' for ds for quite a long time. I think that they were called diaper wraps. Helped a lot on the containment and also woke ds up some of the time...

Having said all of that, I was woken up at 5 this morning by 'I've done a wee in my bed mummy' - luckily I think that he woke and stopped - he went to the toilet immediately, and not a large patch in his bed... But that's the first time in ages that he's had an accident (although at one stage he was bursting into our room with 'I need a wee' at 3am (- response - well go and have one then!) for a bit)

amberlight · 11/02/2010 11:48

Yes please for coffee...
Listening to General Synod. Definitely needs a drink to go with it.
Morning all. Will be more articulate later, probably...

Good morning all!
One more day until the Olympics start!! My parents arrived yesterday and Jackbaby was almost beside himself with excitement at the airport, pointing and shouting "Nana ai'p'ane!! Nana ai'p'ane!!" Every time my mum disappears downstairs, it's "where Nana go?" and when she comes back, mad bouncing and shrieking "there Nana!!". Soooooo sweet!

Another big day at work - 14 "only" though, not 17 like on Tuesday.

Anything good going in the Tea Room kitchen?

MaryBS · 11/02/2010 16:47

I'm just finishing up the last of the Christmas cake. Still moist, if you'd like some!

mistlethrush · 11/02/2010 19:19

Time to crack open a bottle of something - what do we fancy this evening?

AandO · 11/02/2010 19:55

I fell asleep while putting ds to bed, am now exhausted and laying around on the couch! Have to go organise myself for meeting tomorrow morning though. I think I'll just have a cuppa, anyone care to join?

CMOTdibbler · 11/02/2010 21:33

Raclette anyone ? And a cuppa would be fab.

Engineers suspiciously well behaved. We fear they are saving the rebellion for tomorrow..

mistlethrush · 11/02/2010 21:55

OOOhhh yes please CMot - ages since I've had some. Mind you, I think that this rather nice dry white might go slightly better than the cup of tea?

We've had another 3 smilie day!!!! Teacher did imply (not that ds understood) that he'd not been perfect - but, personnally I really don't care - I don't expect him to stop being exuberant and full of life, which effectively means he will never be 'perfect' in her book - but as long as he has been fairly responsive to request, not too flailing around, and fairly quiet when necessary, I'm happy!!!! And this on the day when the two quietest boys have been playing up (OK, playing up for them - not to the extent that is 'good' for mistlechick lol!)

UniS · 11/02/2010 22:42

Racklette, oh yum, melted chese ,mmuuuummmmm.

Mines a hot choc at this time of night, I've just had a RL ginger and lemonade, which was presently warming.

Well done MTChick.

boy came out of preschool today clutching a card. whos that for I asked. K he said. Is it a birthday card? NO, it a card. So we popped round corner to drop it of at Ks house. I suspect it was a valentines card.
if asked to make a card for a friend... he would chose K, another boy a year older and now at school.

Choc box of requirement coming at you. what will you chose?

daisy99divine · 11/02/2010 23:49

JM glad all is good and groovy at Olympics - you are our own correspondent how is your Step Dad doing?

Well done Mistle, glad he's 3 smiles - sounds like at least he's not being "written off" as the disruptive one as you feared

AandO could you try pull up pants for night? That's what we use- not a nappy, can pull down and go, but absorbent?

Yes please to tea and booze - my real life combo too

MaryBS · 12/02/2010 07:58

Ugh, had a dreadful night's sleep. Coffee please...

mistlethrush · 12/02/2010 08:47

Mary - I gave up at 3.30 and read Pratchet for 40 mins (having been awake for at least 30mins before that) - that did the trick and I did manage to get back to sleep, although that's quite an unusual accomplishment (the getting back to sleep bit).

Coffee and crepes all round? I know its not shrove Tuesday, but Mellors seems to be getting some practise in before the event!

CMOTdibbler · 12/02/2010 09:18

Crepes would be fab. My fave shrove tuesday dish is semla (spelling ?) that they have in Sweden - sweet bread rolls with jam and whipped cream, served with hot milk. One of my lovely customers got in gluten free rolls for it one time when they knew I'd be there.

Meeting today has a huge bowl of swiss chocolate in the middle of the table - this is v bad for my diet.

Which Pratchett are you reading MT ? I am debating on which ones to buy for my Kindle - hitherto, I have stuck to the free classics, and have enjoyed reading through all the Anne of Green Gables books. But new books cost real money, so only want to get my most enjoyed and re-re-re-readable ones

amberlight · 12/02/2010 09:42

Cmot, they're all good.

Had not very good news yesterday about ds's eye - he will need surgery to correct his vision ASAP by the look of it, as it's getting worse very fast indeed. Urk. Is there tea available, and does anyone mind if I hide for a bit in the priest hole?

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 12/02/2010 09:48

Ah - I am rereading the whole lot (again) and have got to Moving Pictures. I don't think that its one of the best though. The ones I really like are the ones with the witches and the ones with the Guards. Also the Death based ones. ... So, Wyrd Sisters and Witches Abroad; Guards, Guards and Night Watch; Mort, Reaper Man, Soul Music and Hogwatch. Some of the 'one off's' are good too - I like Pyramids; thief of time; going postal....

We (when growing up) used to have pancakes - and savoury ones first - with a scrape of marmite, filled with chopped hazelnuts and carrot.... yummy ... then finish of with a couple with lemon and sugar.

MaryBS · 12/02/2010 10:17

Am joining Amber down the hole. Once Mellors stops tossing the pancakes - far too many of them are dropping down the hole - is it deliberate I wonder? I don't want one to land on my head. He DOES have a lovely wrist action though

UniS · 12/02/2010 10:25

bummer About DS eye amber. take thee to the priest hole and scoff pancakes while ogling Mellors wrist flick.

I'm avoiding reading preschool policeys. got to get it done sometime tho.

Also avoiding phoning to make Drs apt. have mystery allergy that seems to be triggered by something in my bedroom. no idea what, made me sneeze about 10 times in a row at 7am.

Cold here today. 4th day in a row with some snow in the air, only settled on Wednesday breifly.

mistlethrush · 12/02/2010 11:14

Sorry Amber, didn't mean to ignore you - we cross posted. Sorry to hear about ds's eye. Its amazing what they can do now though - I hope you've got some good Drs. In fact, I think I spent many hours as a child in your local hospital eye dept as I have a dermoid in one eye - they decided not to operate then (for which I am very glad as it could have affected my tear ducts) although it has periods when it gets a bit bigger and I might have to do something about it at some stage. putting it off as long as possible though.

What topping would you like lowered down for your pancakes? I think probably mistlechick would go for 'special mud' (nutella) if he had any say in the matter (which he won't do )

amberlight · 12/02/2010 11:28

I think I'd like just lemon and sugar for mine please, with a large helping of tea...

Just been reading all the stuff about CRB checks and realised that half my fellow advisers and governors can't hold meetings with me any more without being checked to make sure they're Safe People to be Around Me, which is hilarious. I think.

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 12/02/2010 11:37

You look as though you're getting a bit messy - these might help Amber!!!!

UniS · 12/02/2010 11:55

LOL on the CRB check conundrum

not worth the paper they are writing on in IMHO. I sometimes wonder if teh civil service would like us all either registered as childminders and CRBed daily or on the SO register staying in our own home and never going outside and nowt inbetween.

daisy99divine · 12/02/2010 13:31

Amber, so sorry about your lovely DS but I am sure it will be alright. Eyes just seem so very very sort of pertinent don't they?

Mellors has had a special CRB check and is ready to give you any comfort you may require

Mary any particular reason you want to share as to why you are in the Priest Hole too?
I'm having pancakes with special mud and coffee

amberlight · 12/02/2010 14:19

Well, perhaps Mellors could kindly assemble this bloomin' pancake for me - I think it's winning!

OP posts:
MaryBS · 12/02/2010 14:40

Similar sort of reason to last time Daisy, with the additional reason of 'being got at unfairly'

I see Mellors is getting fancy now, with crepes suzette, yum yum yum
