Goodness, we seem to have run out of space on the other one!
I shall assume that we are still in the same premises as for Tea Room Ten for the moment until wiser people tell me otherwise!!

well I think it is a pity to waste such a lovely emoticon on replacing the and would like, with everyone's permission, to use it AS a biscuit in here, in the nicest sense of it - as in, "I have nothing sensible to say but am proffering a biscuit in the hope that it makes you feel better" - would that be ok with everyone?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/11/2009 23:56

Good idea, Thumb, but where will that leave the rabbit with the pancake on his head? Will he be redundant?

thumbwitch · 07/11/2009 00:11

oh no, there's always a need for the rabbit with a pancake on his head, if only for the smile it generates! Biscuits are less smile-inducing (unless they are of the rude variety, of course!)

MaryBS · 07/11/2009 08:48

Can't eat a whole rabbit, but pancakes would be good... with lashings of maple syrup (the proper stuff brought in from Canada in a suitcase, not the rubbish you buy in this country) and thick dollops of cream! Yum!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/11/2009 11:51

Mary! !! You are a woman of the cloth. Should you be flashing your, ahem, norks for all to see?

Yes please to pancakes and maple syrup. There's a pair of jugs pitcher of hot chocolate for anyone looking for a hot drink.

MaryBS · 07/11/2009 13:58

They're not mine, mine aren't tanned. I suspect St Agatha... she had hers detached from her body (not by choice), and is depicted carrying them on a plate (amazing what I know, isn't it? )

Hot chocolate sounds good...

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/11/2009 15:57

Crikey! That reminds me to ask, is there an Oxford Book of Saints (or something along those lines) which contains all the saints' stories? I've often wanted to look up some of the more obscure ones, like Mildred.

How about some hot buttered crumpets to fo with the hot chocolate?

MaryBS · 07/11/2009 18:28

I do have a book of the saints, but its not exhaustive - there probably are books which contain most of them. I tend to google. I knew about St Agatha, because I was going to go to a "Saints and Sinners" party, and someone suggested going as her, and to take a plate with two iced cherry buns on...

St Mildred

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/11/2009 20:14

Crikey again!

I'm just thawing out after tonight's firework display. Would anyone like to join me in some mulled wine?

CMOTdibbler · 07/11/2009 20:56

My mum has a dictionary of the Saints that seems pretty comprehensive. It makes very interesting reading. Her edition is pretty old though - dates to when she was doing her novitiate.

We had garden fireworks last night, and stoked up the firepit. Tonight, I am watching Mama Mia, and waiting for DS to wake up as the neighbours are letting off some really serious fireworks on the green. DH is out, so DS and I have had a lovely day, riding in the morning, then slobbing round the house

Mulled wine would be lovely

Catitainahatita · 07/11/2009 21:31

hello.
i've no time at the mo, or as you can see, the use of both hands, so no capitals fir me.

i've managed to put a photo on my profile for you all to see.

all is well and dandy. will be aroud for a cuppa another day.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/11/2009 21:34

Hang on, Cmot ... your mum did a novitiate. That's quite a story. Is there any more you can tell us?

I'd love a firepit in the garden, but sadly it's too small. We do have a cheminea, though

I am watching Cabaret now. MadBadBaby knows some of the songs but the film only goes on once she's safely in bed. [jazz hands]

I'm also supposed to be blitzing the sitting room - consequence of too much slobbing around at home - as we have guests tomorrow, so the mulled wine is blunting the pain. I will never be a domestic goddess.

RacingSnake · 07/11/2009 21:37

Oh yes please, mulled wine. We also are thawing/drying out after fireworks. No sparklers, but little blue and red flashy things for a pound each. Wriggle's died the moment we got home and she was bereft 'I need it, Mummy!' She is now fast asleep and snoring loudly.

Was your mum planning to be a nun, CMOT?

Just been to the Fudges broken biscuit sale (factory in the next village). Queued for an hour and it turned out I was standing next to Wriggle's future headteacher, who quite agreed with me that EW looked far too little for school in September and was prepared to offer her two or three mornings a week of reception class. She is also a chicken farmer as well as a head teacher, so she can maybe be relied upon to have far too much to do to get all enthusiastic about government directives. Good news all round! Anyone for a biscuit?

CMOTdibbler · 07/11/2009 21:39

Aahh Gatita is so cute !

The short story is that mum got close to taking her final vows in a teaching order, and decided that she wanted to have children of her own, left, and met my dad 6 months later. Dad told me about it, but she only talked a little about it when I was looking at my birth congratulations cards (she kept all of them), and there was one from the sisters of the convent.

We decided a cheminea was too much of a liability with small children - the firepit we have cools down on the outside wall v fast without flame, unlike a ceramic

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/11/2009 22:05

Aaah. I missed Catita's post!

Gatita is indeed extremely cute. I think the sunroof exit helps in that regard, as babies who have made their entry that way haven't got squished up in the process. Gatita is a sweetie.

Racing - Excellent news about the headteacher and the school. I'm trusting the headteacher isn't Boggis, Bunce or Bean.

What an amazing story, Cmot. Our cheminea apre-dates MBB but hasn't been lit for years. Every time I do a garden clear-up, I wonder whether we should get rid, but I do hope it'll get used again and soon.

More mulled wine, anyone?

UniS · 07/11/2009 22:49

st sidwell is one of my favourites. she has a road, school, church and and indeed a well named for her in Exeter. Locally she is considered to have been named Sidda, the Sidwell name coming from teh spring that sprung up when her head was loped off.

Nice to have a truly local headteacher at wiggles school, suggests a school well rooted in its community. I still havn;t done boys application, the form has been on-line a week already, deadline is in Jan tho, so I have a while.

Knackered boy today, we went up to Bristol to play in a hockey tournament. Boy had a great 7 hours puttering about the foyer of a sports centre, badgering people to play hockey with him. Fell asleep EVENTULLY on the drive home and transferred to bed with no problems. ( he was in PJs already).

Yep Gatita is as cute as they come. In a very new baby kind of way. As is baby motorbike, no shes not harley or Bugatti.

thumbwitch · 07/11/2009 22:56

ooh, mulled wine - lovely thank you! It is raining and chillyish here so very appropriate.

Catita, Gatita looks lovely! awww, is she being lovely too? Sleeping well and feeding well, that kind of thing?

RS - definitely good news re the headteacher - although I saw on the news this morning that there is an international recommendation to delay the start of school until age 6...

I always liked the idea of a chiminea but couldn't fit one in my old garden, and there probably isn't a need for one here. Ah well - when we're older and retire to France or Italy (haven't decided which) we'll get one then.

CMOTD - amazing story about your mum there - is she still a very devout Catholic or did it slip somewhat when she decided not to be a nun?

RacingSnake · 07/11/2009 23:16

Still want to delay start of school; just always being told it is impossible ...

Surely not chilly and raining in Australia.

thumbwitch · 08/11/2009 02:46

ha de ha - have you not seen the news about the flash floods and natural disaster zone labelling of northern NSW? actually, probably not - it probably wasn't newsworthy enough for the UK.

Luckily not near us, we're just getting normal rain, but about 4hours north they've had collossal amounts of rain, and hail as big as cricket balls, with lots of flooding and people being cut off (just like in the UK - last winter, wasn't it?)

One of my Aussie mates in the UK always laughs wryly when people assume the weather in Australia is lovely all the time - sooooo wrong.

thumbwitch · 08/11/2009 02:47

I am - obviously I meant colossal with one L, not 2.

RacingSnake · 08/11/2009 09:45

So what is the temperature? (For comparisson) comparrison? comparrisson? comparison? (Just to make you feel better about collosal)

amberlight · 08/11/2009 14:57

My apologies for my absence - have been whizzing about trying to do conferences and herd staff into suitable configurations and recover from last weekend (not in that order) and my brain reached "Full!"

Will now catch up a bit and say hello

Have just been reading back... sorry it's been so long, I always feel a bit when I haven't caught up with anyone's news in case I missed something important.

CONGRATULATIONS to Catita (and thank you so much for all the pictures, Gatita is adorable!!) and Tea's sister... new babies... mmmmm!!

I've had a miserable week with a flare-up of back pain. Have been to see my chiro three times this week... it's getting better... going to go to yoga later to see if it will help loosen things up.

I noticed someone mentioned Veuve Clicquot a while ago? Any of that still going? I have to admit The Widow is my favourite...

And I am utterly puzzled by the biscuit emoticon. Why would a biscuit be indicative of having nothing to say? And why did it have eyes for one day and then the eyes disappeared?
But I'm with Mary on - we need a [boobies] emoticon, I think.

amberlight · 08/11/2009 18:36

Or a pair of startled eyes...
Hope your back improves, JM.
Have a bottle of Veuve and a straw!
