Tea Room the Eleventh

amberlight · 17/10/2009 10:52

Goodness, we seem to have run out of space on the other one!
I shall assume that we are still in the same premises as for Tea Room Ten for the moment until wiser people tell me otherwise!!

UniS · 05/12/2009 19:46

hurrah for mistlechick having a nap. boy needs them but won;t take them.

Balloons all sold out/ used up ( no fixed price) before end of the bazaar, hurrah. Bought boy some more lego farm animals and lego tractor bits an bobs for a couple of quid, hurrah

Work tomorrow has gained an earlier start, (boo) and an extra 30 mins driving each side (hiss) as I do have to collect and return a work vehicle, so will be driving two sides of triangle each way rather than driving the long wiggly side if I went direct from here.

Exceptionally nice mince pies and bowl of clotted cream on the counter for you all to tuck into. Mulled wine keeping warm on the aga.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/12/2009 21:07

Mulled wine, mince pies and clotted cream? Could it get any better? Thank you, UniS.

I'm watching Margot on BBC4. Did you see it when it was on before? Inspirational dancing.

amberlight · 06/12/2009 07:52

Goodness me! Hopefully Mellors and the tub of sprain liniment will solve that one for you!

OP posts:
MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/12/2009 13:26

Ah! Mmm! Bliss!

Yes, Mellors has magic hands and his soothing touch has made my aching leg feel much better, thank you.

Sunday lunch is now being served in the castle dining room, with a selection of hot and cold dishes (but none so hot as Mellors ), wines, cocktails and an array of mouth-watering yet calorie-free puddings. Mellors is acting as butler, wearing a tail coat and knee britches, which show off his manly and muscular calves.

mistlethrush · 06/12/2009 14:03

MT grabs a mincepie and some mulled wine - there appears to be an unending supply available in the tearoom - hurrah!

Oh for a paracetamol.... its only at times like this that that I really miss being able to have one!

amberlight · 06/12/2009 14:10

There's always mince pies and mulled wine, this is true.

Church today enlivened by the incident with the vicar, the pineapple and the tea lady. Things are never dull at St Ambers...

OP posts:
MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/12/2009 14:24

A pineapple, did you say? Why do we never have incidents like that at St Mad's?

daisy99divine · 06/12/2009 17:43

Thanks for the mince pies and Sunday Lunch! What fun!

I had a Racing Wibble moment (akin to the EW card making moment a few days ago) on Saturday. DaisyBoy and I were standing outside a certain Establishment Emporium That is Never Knowingly Undersold. There were lights, there was the Salvation Army puffing and tootling away. Inside we posted our letter to Santa with the promise of a reply (how cool is that ) we had a little shop and cycled home together. DaisyBoy on back clutching pressies we had chosen for other people (nothing for him) he sang Jingle Bells very loudly the whole way and people smiled at us

It was magic. I was misty eyed with the joy of it and I thought of Racing and Wriggle and remembered the many Barren Years when I would feel a fraud in a toy department choosing for nephews/ nieces and assorted Children That Weren't Mine despite the longing....

And I thought, that time is over, thank heavens, how blessed I am - and I knew you, my Tea Room Friends, would understand

daisy99divine · 06/12/2009 17:53

Right I have now caught up on chat, having got my "moment" off my chest!

MadBad we are not bilingual, but wish we were and spend lots of time in France! (I rather recently did my French GCSE having missed out by being Bolshy at 15 ) But we have a French Godmother for DaisyBoy and she organised the subs. No probs sending it to UK - I get loads of subs reminders, I could send one if you like - maybe they want payment from French bank account ??

CMOT I often wonder re your hubby too, but don't want to give too many clues because I am rather Googlable (is that a word?) and would feel very compromised

UniS went to a Fair this morning, and there was a fab unicyclist, so thought of you! But no Lego (grr) it was much more la-di-da than that. In fact there was a woman giving out Vogue goody bags - but she looked at me, gave me a "sweeping up and down" and then passed on!!!!

Racing do you really drive the menagerie through the paper? Great plan! How was Something About Mary? We totally cheat with cards - DaisyBoy paints willy nilly then I impose Christmas Shaped templates onto the result, cut it out and stick on another bit of card - heh presto! Sludge coloured Snowmen/ Christmas trees whatever!

Mistle DaisyBoy still sleeps 1 1/2 hours day and 12 hours night, and he's not even at school yet, lord knows when he actually does full days!

Amber are you feeling better? And how is boy's nose? I sympathise, I played contact sport for many years and suffered some very painful injuries, but it's fun!

YEAH to the craft fair! I shall provide Gin

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/12/2009 18:34

Good to see you, Daisy. I am having a vicarious wibble at your JLP moment.

Would that be home-made, hand-crafted gin you're bringing to the craft fair, then?

amberlight · 06/12/2009 18:36

Daisy, I'm feeling better, but still coughing for England. If they make it an Olympic sport, I'm definitely on the team. Boy's nose is far less squashed, and his team managed a triumphant victory.

You played contact sport? Blimey! Very dangerous y'know. I once played rugby against the local boys school, but that's another story...

Yay re the misty-eyed moment . May there be many, many more.

Opening the first bottle of the evening for those wishing to have a virtual glass/jug/tanker.

*The 1980s Guide to restoring the Jaguar XK120, of course. What else would a girl read?

OP posts:
daisy99divine · 06/12/2009 18:43

Madbad - homeknitted gin actually, with each little juniper berry lovingly represented by a teeny French knot

Amber - I didn't play rugby ...glad you're feeling better - but re the cough - remember from my experience last year and get antibiotics to clear it up!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/12/2009 18:49

Ooh, Amber, what's in the jug? If it is a jug of requirement, then I'm hoping it might be something I saw mentioned in the newspaper yesterday - a Cointreaupolitan (Cointreau, cranberry and lemon juice). I saw a thread a day or so ago where people were looking for you - someone was looking for advice about diagnosis of ASD. Did you see it?

Daisy - Did you really think of yourself as barren? (Ignore the question if it's too far beyond the boundary of taste and decency). I can't remember how I classified myself in all those, ahem, childfree years, but I think I probably used to overdo it in toy shops.

Am I the only one here who's never played rugby?!

amberlight · 06/12/2009 19:08

I'm now wondering precisely what sort of 'contact sport' it was that Daisy played....and whether it's the one that Mellors seems to engage with on a regular basis.

The jug is indeed a Jug of Requirement, and contains the beverage of choice for each person.

Advice about DX of ASC? Not sure I did see it. Might have a look.

Homeknitted Gin!?! Never tried doing that...must get my needles out...

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 06/12/2009 19:16

I only played touch rugby as an alternative to lacrosse on occasions when we were awful at catching, throwing and, more importantly, picking up the ball with our lax sticks....

I too am coughing for the country - I'll join you on the team Amber. The worst of it is how much it hurts my head when I cough. I think its gone to my sinuses so everytime I move I get stabbing pain. Think I'll be taking some alchohol to see if that helps later. Although if there's some spare sloe gin around I might give that a go? On the positive side though, I'm definitely not allergic to sudafed as I've had two now withouth rushing to A&E!!!!

I tell you what makes me mad - its the people that say 'having two of them under 3 is really hard work' etc. I'm sorry, but you must have worked out how it worked the first time - if you didn't want 2 under 3, you know what you should have done....

Sorry, that's my rant over.

I think mistlechick's teacher is just starting to find some of his +ves rather than just the difficulties in setting boundaries and channelling the energy - but she is listening to me - I've forgotten who suggested the beads, but I suggested that to her, and the following day for the dress-dress rehearsal, she'd sorted a belt out for him which they tied beads on to and, until he managed to get it undone and started swinging it around it worked quite well!!!

amberlight · 06/12/2009 19:22

TEA ROOM SPACE ALERT

Ladies, I observe we've only about 40 messages of space left before it boots us out of the tea room. Where do we want to be next??

OP posts:
RacingSnake · 06/12/2009 19:33

Please please please can we go to a log cabin at the North Pole and can Mellors drive a team of reindeer to pick up the groceries? (Thought of this while sitting on a freezing swing in our nearby incredibly picturesque abbey town, watching the stars come out and waiting for Wriggle to finally admit that the day out was over.)

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/12/2009 19:42

So, Racing, you were thinking of Mellors while in the playground with Wriggle? What have you got to say in mitigation?

CMOTdibbler · 06/12/2009 20:24

I didn't play rugby - in fact I was terrible at all sports at school due to my eyesight problems and that I can't run. When I started rowing, it was a severe shock for the PE staff when I was in a winning crew at the National Championships.

MT - I agree.

Daisy - unless you do insurance law, don't think you have to suffer DH. His best lawyer friend is from a famous china making family though if that means anything to you. Your little moment made me sniff.

I have been to two childrens parties this weekend. My head hurts. Fortunatly yesterdays had several of the other 'not fitting in' mums there, and today DH came so wasn't billy no mates.

Tuesday I have a day off. I really should get my hair cut as I haven't had it cut since June, but I hate having it cut as they always take too much off. May be forced to go and shop for some stocking fillers for DS instead

RacingSnake · 06/12/2009 20:32

Daisy, yes, 'barren' and 'a fraud' just about covers how I felt. I also hated Christmas, because everyone always says 'It's only for the children' and 'It's a family time.' Mind the last two Christmasses have also been unspeakable.

Another WriggleWibble momment yesterday. We were in Salisbury catherdral, where I always lit a candle before all the various treatments and I suddenly realised that I was there lighting a candle with my daughter. (She wanted to light a candle for the entertainment of the Bambi she carries around with her in her backpack. Always.)

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 06/12/2009 21:04

Had meant to add, Mistle, that I agree too. I don't understand why people create a situation (any situation, not just a baby-related one) and then seek sympathy as if this was something which had been imposed on them, rather something in which they had played a very large part.

Oh, Racing. I'm having another . Maybe I'm not just a hard-hearted old harridan after all.

mistlethrush · 06/12/2009 21:18

It's lovely isn't it - mistlechick came in after his nap this afternoon and snuggled up and sang Away in a Manger with me... Its one of the repertoire of bedtime songs at the moment just to add t bit of variation.

gallusbesombaubles · 06/12/2009 21:19

after posting about my DD's 'little princess' tendencies driving me mad on this board and getting helpful replies, can I offer round some hot chocolate fudge cake and vanilla ice cream and join in?

RacingSnake · 06/12/2009 21:30

Random painting and then cutting out sludge-coloured Christmas trees - easiest idea yet! Could be augmented with some random sticking if we are feeling ambitious.

MadBad - DH was supervising Wriggle while I watched the stars come out, listened to the abbey bells and thought about Mellors, so H&S was amply ensured.

Mysterious and bauble-bedecked person - thank you for delicious offer, but who are you??? Have we met? (I am not very clever)

RacingSnake · 06/12/2009 21:38

But I have translated your name as chicken-broom-balls. Doesn't seem to help.
