Tea Room the Tenth: Tea and cake and rock and roll

1000 replies

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/09/2009 23:29

Welcome back to the tea room.

In the search for the perfect venue, we have now decamped to a rambling country estate. The once-decaying castle, now restored, is a boutique hotel, popular with rock and roll gentry and visiting bishops, and the tea room (which never closes) is located in a tastefully converted barn. The charming garden contains a duck pond and ends in a haha. We need the haha, of course, to stop the bison trampling the herbaceous borders. Mellors the gardener is, as ever, in charge of the grounds.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink.

Daisy - ...

pneumonia....

HOW VERY HORRIBLE FOR YOU!!!!!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 11/10/2009 23:17

Tea - Once I have written MadBad's Definitive and Authoritative Guide To Parenting, I will get started on "The Man To Whom I Am Mistakenly Married". In this chick lit classic, our plucky heroine is knocked unconscious by the tea room door (must as happened to me months ago, when I had to be shipped off to the MN State Home for the Bewildered) and wakes from her coma to find that she has been married against her will to the evil twin of her childhood sweetheart. Neither she nor her sweetheart knew that he had a twin - they had been separated at birth - and the ensuing dramas and revelations provide much merriment until eventually our heroine Finds Herself and is reunited with her One True Love. I shall, of course, retire to Biarritz on the proceeds of this best seller.

MadBadBaby once went to school with her pyjama top on under her uniform, in a dressing/undressing malfunction.

tea believe me, Gin will be the making of you. Not perhaps in the way anticipated but nonetheless go for it girley

TMTWIAMM does he realise he is on probation? Or teetering near a precipice? I have to say, MadBad, I am a little in awe of you so would hate to provoke seeting from you. I shspect it is sharp, witty and polysylabbic

pneumonia well. it's not that horrid really. I have been coughing for months and thinking I was really really unfit because all exercise left me breathless and exhausted. I was sent for investigations

daisy99divine · 11/10/2009 23:22

madbad agog for Evil Twin of MTWIAMM sounds a doozer LOL - now who will play them/ him in the film version? Could I hazard a guess at Daniel Craig

teafortwo · 11/10/2009 23:31

Madbad - chic chick lit - thanks for reading it right even though I typed it wrong!!! Good plot... sounds like it will also be a chick flick in no time at all!

Daisy - Even so - no no no not nice at all! Peeeerrrrleeeease look after you for us!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 11/10/2009 23:44

@ "pneumonia, well it's not that horrid really". You're very brave, Daisy.

A propos THTWIAMM (the man), yes I was extremely angry. But was too angry at the time to tell him that he was indeed dancing on the edge of a precipice and I am too tired to have that conversation now.

As for the TMTWIAMM (the movie). By a strange coincidence I had thought of putting a call to Daniel Craig's agent. However did you guess?

Why would anyone be in awe of me? I am a wizened old boot who spends far too much on t'interweb. I may not even exist. I may be a trucker from Hull called Dave.

OP posts:
daisy99divine · 11/10/2009 23:50

Yes, but a trucker from Hull called Dave with a prediliction for Daniel Craig and Bolly.

Which means there as some things about you that are ok

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 12/10/2009 00:02

Gee, thanks.

I'm now going up the wooden hill to Hull Bedfordshire. Good night everyone.

OP posts:
teafortwo · 12/10/2009 00:32

Madbad - DAVE I had guessed from a few things mentioned that you were probably a trucker from Hull but I was sure you'd be a Mick...

Goes to show you never can tell, eh?

May I suggest a few tracks to be used in TMTWIAMM (the movie)...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3hh0wNpqqY&feature=fvst

www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBd0d21oBOc&feature=related

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibyHm7kZGSo

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi6dqhi8Ptw&feature=PlayList&p=5DC52B84A097A480&index=0

All tick the girly box very well indeed I feel. Don't use the original tracks - get this band to do the job....it will be a money spinner for sure!!!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=c99UFrKkLSk

Lastly... Will you be opting for swirly pink or purple writing for the title? - You really do have lots to think about with this new project of yours!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 12/10/2009 09:34

Ah, the Shirelles. You have remarkably good taste, Tea. Are you psychic? I have been obsessed with that Amy Winehouse song since they used it on Strictly last year. How lovely to see all my obsessions coming together in one post! I am generally Not Keen on cover versions, but even without the sound that girlband are funny so I may reconsider!

Swirly writing! I was thinking probably of silver, as this will be a clarrrsssy volume, doncha know.

Now, who would like some freshly-baked rolls, hot from the aga, with butter, jam or honey?

Dave xx

yum yum
thanks for the roll (phar pnarr) and honey

here's lovely fresh coffee to go with

RacingSnake · 12/10/2009 13:39

MadBad, what an amazing co-incidence! That is exactly how I came to be married to DH!! Spooky or what? In the Movie, DH will be played, of course, by Gerard Depardieu in his slimmer days. And a rottweiler with a grudge against the world.

Tea, I have had a sudden thought - we are trying (no idea if it will happen) to spend a week in Paris at Easter. DH will be busy stamping on innocent fluffy bunnies studying, and Wriggle and I will be entertaining ourselves. Are you in Paris then by any chance

Daisy, what can we say? You should be cuddled up on the sofa sipping hot honey and lemon and we should all be looking after you.

notquiteagymbunny · 12/10/2009 13:55

Hehe, have been giggling reading this totally bonkers thread while having lunch.

Been out to a meeting this morning with the boss, which wasn't a total waste of time for once. Traffic was pants though. Got my rl house quite tidy yesterday, still got a few rooms to do.

daisy, if you're glad to have pneumonia, then I'm glad too . But take care please.

Madbad, TMTWIAMM (the movie), great pitch . There have got to be some trendy media types in the rambling country house next door to the tea room, or at least there will be when they come down from Chelsea for the weekend.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 12/10/2009 14:04

Racing - Yes! Are we sepaking of Tea Room The Movie, in which Gerard would play Racingspouse, or TMTWIAMM, in which he might play both twins? Either way, I hadn't thought of Gerard Depardieu for the role but he would be perfect.

Gymbunny - Totally bonkers? Why do you say that?

Have just found this paparazzo shot of Racingsnake et son mari a Paris.

OP posts:
RacingSnake · 12/10/2009 16:17

Yes, but remember, exotic foreigners are quite rare here in Darkest Dorset. TMTWIAMM would be considered of interest where he might not in more enlightened areas.
Sadly he does not look like Alain Delon. However, that reminded me that there was a film written by a friend of DH's grandfather called Un Singe En Hiver, where either Jean Gabin or Belmondo plays grandfather. Not sure which. Found this on google and would like to think that DH looks more like the one on the right, but the cheery expression of the one on the left looks more familiar at the moment.

RacingSnake · 12/10/2009 16:27

Love the picture, MadBad. Is it Jules et Jim? we watched it shortly before Wriggle's suprise arrival and this song was running though my head the whole time I was in hospital. Just found it to share it with you (I may have done so before because I think that some of the tea room inmates customers would appreciate it) and Wriggle, who was playing just outside in the sun and taking no notice of me, came running up to the computer and started singing. Maybe she remembers, in a hazy sort of way.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 12/10/2009 16:29

So you're saying that Racingspouse looks like JP Belmondo? Did you look at my paparazzo picture?

OP posts:
orangehaze · 12/10/2009 17:02

Blimey, it's all gone a bit highbrow in here since I left. I know nothing about French cinema accept the odd Gerard Depardieu film and some funny films that were called "Le Cop" but called something else in France, and the "Taxi" films.

Am very impressed with Tea Rooms appreciation of world cinema.

TMTWIAMM sounds like a fine project, can I do set design? Always liked the idea of doing that.

Sun over the yardarm yet??

amberlight · 12/10/2009 17:08

How do you open a bottle without breaking the seal??! If I break the seal, does that mean I can't use it ??

Daisy, you have pneumonia?! A large dose of this for you then, if we can figure out the user instructions...meantime, please take good care of yourself.

Cake and teas/coffees replenished for all.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 12/10/2009 17:11

Good to see you, orangehaze. The set design brief is all yours - do you think you can manage TMTWIAMM and Tea Room: The Movie at the same time? They could be a double bill.

Have you see Tea's idea for a Hendrix night? Would you be up for it?

Sun pretty much over the yard arm here. What are you drinking?

OP posts:
orangehaze · 12/10/2009 17:44

Oh yeah, no probs! Although, I've never been to Hull, so will have to go up there to get design ideas for the TMTWIAMM movie and I've never been in a trucker's cab

Hendrixs night eh?! Splendid. I can supply lava lamp and roll a fat one (well, I was an art student )

Make mine a large G and T with a squirt of lime and a pie on the side please.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 12/10/2009 17:48

"A pie on the side" - is this some, ahem, art student reference which I'm not getting? Something like a Camberwell Carrot?

OP posts:
MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 12/10/2009 18:10

Sorry, Racingsnake, I missed your second post, which crossed with mine. That picture was taken from your wedding album A bout du souffle. I have no sound on this PC so have just downloaded that Jeanne Moreau song from itunes. It's lovely. I have never seen Jules et Jim all the way through. There go my francophile and cineaste credentials .

I think I need to buy some classic French filns on DVD to while away the winter evenings. Suggestions, please everyone.

OP posts:
orangehaze · 12/10/2009 18:17

Madbad, no special art student language I'm afraid, I'm just a bit peckish.

(I love Withnail! My DH always says "I'll turn my attention....to the meat" in that camp posh Uncle Monty way when we do a roast)
