Tea Room the Tenth: Tea and cake and rock and roll

1000 replies

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/09/2009 23:29

Welcome back to the tea room.

In the search for the perfect venue, we have now decamped to a rambling country estate. The once-decaying castle, now restored, is a boutique hotel, popular with rock and roll gentry and visiting bishops, and the tea room (which never closes) is located in a tastefully converted barn. The charming garden contains a duck pond and ends in a haha. We need the haha, of course, to stop the bison trampling the herbaceous borders. Mellors the gardener is, as ever, in charge of the grounds.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink.

Heh Mary well done with your Bishop! But I am sure he just read your new Mission Statement and caved - tell us more!

MadBad i am going to stick with the pastries and hot chocolate, thanks

hot cross buns - home made? WOW, I tried it once. They formed an excellent rockery

Daily Mail - didn't know - you have to remember I don't tend to go elsewhere on MN unless you ladies link me

Thumb you are right. DaisyBloke had ethical issues. Basically he said "I have treated you twice. I can't do this anymore" so he stopped treating my neck and shagged me asked me out instead

daisy99divine · 05/10/2009 15:42

I just tried the rice game and thought it was very odd, asking me for definitions of words and nothing about art at all.... then I saw the change subjects button

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/10/2009 15:55

Sorry, Daisy, I tried but failed to get it to link to the subjects page.

Yay to Mary and the Bishop (so to speak)!

Cuppa tea, anyone?

CMOTdibbler · 05/10/2009 16:03

Luvvverly cuppa MadBad 650 emails later, and I can see over the parapet of work.

orangehaze · 05/10/2009 16:05

re: hot cross buns, breadmaker. Marvelous invention for those those cooking aspirations are better then their ability.

(chuck stuff in, go and sit down for an hour and a half, roll into balls, bung in oven)

yum

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/10/2009 16:15

And would you like a slice of lemon drizzle cake with that, Cmot?

I think there may be some hot cross buns left, too.

Anything for you, Orangehaze?

OP posts:
orangehaze · 05/10/2009 16:17

gin please, oh it's a bit early.

Spritzer then please!

Jacksmamwahahaha · 05/10/2009 16:18

Morning all... nothing too terribly good about it yet (I've not gotten myself around enough coffee to overcome a rough night)...

MadBad, the roaring 40's thread wants you to come back, please - there is a link to the new thread too.
They sound very nice. Not as nice as you lot, of course, but very nice.

Gah. I'm feeling completely stunned this morning. Somebody give me a bracing slap or something. Or I'll start posting ridiculous shite like "AIBU to let me toddler play with my paper scissors just so I can have some coffee in peace"

MaryBS · 05/10/2009 16:19

Still a little bit 'zonked out'. Essentially, the interview wasn't as long as expected. Mostly about how I felt personally about being in ministry, and also how my Asperger's would affect me when I was, say, ministering to someone who was bereaved. He seemed very supportive of that, and I was glad to be able to discuss it properly. He said he was pleased that I felt able to talk to a bishop without clamming up. He doesn't know I have lots of experiences of bishops in the tea room (notice I said OF not WITH ), and I never mentioned anything about speedos

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/10/2009 16:26

That's good to hear, Mary. Jacksmama - I may pop into the roaring forties from time to time to drone on reminisce about my experience of baby-wrangling but, really, this is where I hang out. (Note to self: must buy jeans which are better at hiding my muffin top).

Orangehaze - Are you sure you're new around here? You seem to have got the measure of us remarkably quickly!

orangehaze · 05/10/2009 16:35

It's nice to know I fit in!
It kind of reminds me of my old teaching days, huddling in staff room, moaning about the students, counting the hours to more coffee or the nightly trip to the pub and then wobbling home on my bike.

This was all before I was a responsible mother. I do miss those days.

notquiteagymbunny · 05/10/2009 16:45

I haad some fun on the rice game at lunch the other day, had loads of fun.

orangehaze, hot cross buns sound divine, may I have one please?
Mary, well done with the bisop, bet you're glad it's all over.
CMOT, wow that's a lot of emails!

Off to check on dinner....

daisy99divine · 05/10/2009 16:54

YEAH! Drizzle cake and gin, this is my kinda place!

MadBad don't go roaring with the 40s, stay and mew with us

I have not recovered from my summer holidays yet. I need coffee and firm resolve.

Re muffin top trousers - I heard of the gloriously named "Jeans Your Daughter Wouldn't Wear" - all big fronts with extra support - yet surprisingly glam!

daisy99divine · 05/10/2009 16:54

By the way, orange your description sounds pretty much like my life. Now.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/10/2009 17:20

Really, Daisy? Gizza job.

I have even seen those jeans in the shops but didn't dare pick them up!

That post was so scintillatingly witty that I thought you would want to read it twice.

CMOTdibbler · 05/10/2009 17:31

I ate too much clotted cream and cakes whilst on holiday. A gentle hours hack and some walking everyday didn't counteract this I'm afraid.

So I must hold firm against cake. For now

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/10/2009 18:01

I seem to have acquired another layer of blubber since coming back from holiday. I have just resolved to lay off the cakes and biscuits in RL, which will probably mean an even more excessive consumption in here.

just back from slimming world and after losing 1.5lbs last week and going to a champagne fuelled 50th, I tried harder this week and put 2.5lb on. Aaaagh!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/10/2009 19:54

Oh dear, Gymbunny. But at least you're committed enough to go to Slimming World.

Would you like a virtual glass of Bolly to take your mind off it?

OP posts:
notquiteagymbunny · 05/10/2009 20:00

Yes please. And a cream cake too .

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/10/2009 20:04

Okey-dokey.

How about a chocolate eclair, made in the French stylee with chocolate cream inside? Zut alors.

Anyone else?
