Tea room the Eighth - sun, sea, sangria, and perhaps a sandy Mellors

Greetings, welcome to the eighth incarnation of the tearoom.

The tearoom has been, and will be again, a virtual safe haven for anyone up for rather random chat and a comprehensive range of virtual snacks. Nothing in the tearoom will make you fat, or drunk (unless you want it to) or cause an allergic reaction.

The new tearoom location is a beautiful beachside cafe (no need for factor 50, the virtual sun will just lightly tan you, bring out your freckles or simply warm your skin, as you prefer) with a range of garden swings, hammocks, sunloungers, deckchairs etc (as well as a rather incongruous, but well-loved, chaise longue). For those in need of sanctuary, we have managed to fashion a new priesthole out of woven grasses.

Our fellow residents include Mellors the rugged gardener of few-but-well-chosen words, the naked mohawk babies, a coterie of bishops, various domestic pets, and a selection of others. On the human side, all are welcome - while we live in the One Child topic some regulars have more than one, and we are welcome all (except people who put their heads on one side and tell those of us with one child that it's just not fair to have only one child).

Please help yourself to a glass of Champagne and a canape on the way in ...

TW - just out of interest, JM and I have been following another thread - after years of abuse, another MN managed to leave with her 2 children yesterday evening.... There's a bit of a 'who can send what' list that has been going, and potentially people taking things from around the country! Just thought you might bear in mind when you get to the last few things that you won't be taking and can't get rid of! Not quite sure where you are... she's in Essex/Suffolk/Norfolk area I think.

mistlethrush · 23/05/2009 09:42

(Now really must go and pack otherwise MJ won't have suitable things to wear and DH will only pack one tshirt...)

thumbwitch · 23/05/2009 10:06

thanks MT - I'll see, I think the things we are not taking are mostly of the huge non-postable variety which makes it more awkward. We are in Surrey, so not very close either - I'd love to be more helpful but am a wee bit too anxious about everything to be able to say "yes no problem" at the moment.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 23/05/2009 13:05

Hello everyone.

I've had a frantic week at work and have been crashing out in the evenings, so haven't posted much. Have just been reading to catch up.

Cmot - I enjoy your tales of international commuting because it's a glimpse into a life that's so unlike my own. I almost never have to travel for work now and, when I did, it meant getting the red-eye from Kings Cross to get to Preston for 9am. So hardly in your league! I don't think you're an ungrateful moo [note to self: make more use of the word moo] as I got fed up with the commuting within the UK, and that was pre-offspring.

So, anyone for some lettuce, pea and lovage soup and a lewd roll, served on the verandah?

MaryBS · 23/05/2009 13:19

Sounds good to me Madbad.

We're all off to France tomorrow for a week, so who would like me to bring back some wine, croissants, brioches, escargot, and any other tasty French morsels (not Jean-Christophe Novelli, he's already over here )

MaryBS · 23/05/2009 13:19

sorry, meant the lewd food, rather than how frantic you are

www.surreycommunity.info/guildfordaction/furniture-project/

other furniture projects exist around the country. generally they are able to re-home large furniture with families/ individuals in need. typically they will collect on a mutually agreed date any furniture you wish to be rid off that is in usable condition or can be economically repaired.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 23/05/2009 19:24

MaryBS - It's OK. I knew what you meant. Could you please bring back Gerard Depardieu?

It's wine o'clock. Would anyone like a snifter?

amberlight · 23/05/2009 19:40

Oh go on then...as long as it's just a virtual one

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 23/05/2009 19:45

Virtual red, virtual white or virtual rose, Amber?

amberlight · 23/05/2009 19:49
MaryBS · 23/05/2009 21:35

Am off alcohol, due to medication , still only another 3 days...

Catitainahatita · 23/05/2009 22:48

MaryBS You know you can drink all you like in the tearoom, don't you? Since we are in a virtual safe haven alcohol can't harm you at all

I'm a dieabetic and scoff all the ckes going round here. I'm also pg and will be enjoying some of Madbad's fine wine if she cares to pass it this way.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 23/05/2009 22:59

Yes, it's true. As everything here is virtual and magical, none of it can harm you. But we also have a range of fruit juices and soft drinks, if you'd prefer, MaryBS.

Catitainahatita · 23/05/2009 23:14

Cheers, Madbad.

And yes, MaryBS, didn´t mean to sound like a bully. You aren't obliged to drink alcohol if you don't want... we can conjure up a bit of whatever you fancy.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 23/05/2009 23:22

.... which brings me back to Gerard Depardieu.

Catitainahatita · 23/05/2009 23:43

Ta dah!

Catitainahatita · 23/05/2009 23:45

In Spanish, I realise now, but still the photos don't neeed translating

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 24/05/2009 00:00

Thank you, Catita. I'm hoping MaryBS will bring him back from France for me. Virtually.

teafortwo · 24/05/2009 00:13

Hello all I am back from a lovely walk all around mn.

I bumped into someone wanting advice on birthday cakes, someone wanting to know what to call her baby and had a chat about secret clothing but realized my secret wasn't really a secret. So ducked out of conversation and headed this way....

Pheeeew - after all that I am ready for a nice drink in the tearoom - what is everyone drinking tonight????

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 24/05/2009 00:20

As this is the tea room, we are drinking whatever we like best. What would you like, Tea?

teafortwo · 24/05/2009 00:23

an Irish coffee I think....

mmmm - delicious!!!!!!

Good night - sleep tight!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 24/05/2009 00:39

Dors bien!

MaryBS · 24/05/2009 06:25

No, I DO like alcohol, its a bit early in the morning for me to start drinking though, now!

Where does Gerard Depardieu live anyway? Will I have to kidnap him?

amberlight · 24/05/2009 08:39

He lives in a village just West of Paris. I'd suggest kidnapping might be a bit tricky, though . You might want to try tempting him with something...tea room chocolate cake or a nice glass of something cheeky and fruity?

The aga is a bit temperamental this morning so I've left Mellors to hit it with a spanner until it behaves itself.

Croissants et un petit tasse de cafe pour les occupants, peut etre? Or, in English, do grab your breakfast and a nice cuppa and have a sit down with the newspaper/copy of 'Allo magazine/latest equal opportunities research report and statistics (depending on your choice of early morning reading material)
