The SIXTH Tea Room - Everyone Welcome

The One Child Tea Room started as a sort of sanctuary for anyone who was a bit tired of the controversy surrounding having one child only, for whatever reason. The topic seems to attract that sort of thing. So we thought we needed a place where a cup of tea and a muffin and a place to sit down and relax was needed - and judging by the number of visitors and regulars, it really was much needed!

The tea room has since undergone a few, shall we say, metamorphoses... it started as a charming bricks and mortar sort of place, with a lovely English garden, a ha-ha in the distance, and wonderful mismatched crockery.

But since the tea room is truly magical, at night, the glitter ball comes out, and booze and sofas canapees are served. During the daytime, there is a stable with (at last count) two horses, Earl and Lady Grey, who appreciate being exercised. We also have (at last count) two guinea pigs, RacingPig and RacingMissPiggy... but since they seem to have been up to no good, that count may increase shortly.

In its most recent incarnation, the tea room became a yurt, and we had Mellors The Gardener show up in buckskin trousers and no shirt (which caused several of the regulars to either fan themselves with whatever magazines were available, or faint prettily, preferably into Mellors' arms), and there seems to have been an errant bison or two.
Oh, and we also had the Naked Mohawk Babies - they were originally cake decorations (for the life of me, I cannot find the link right now) - and they have since taken on lives of their own, adding much amusement to the tea room.

Decorations include cut-outs of George Clooney, Wesley Snipes, and any other hunks of burning love we can think of. Oh, and peace lilies, and (since nothing seems to be able to kill the damn thing) an aspidistra.

For those who are shy of company, or fleeing controversial threads, we have a Priest Hole to hide relax in.

Please remember that the tea room is magical - no amount of Bolly swilled will cause a hangover, allergies of any type mean nothing, so you can eat and drink whatever you like, and if you don't fancy the distressed-looking couch, a brand-new comfy arm chair will appear in seconds.

EVERYONE is welcome, whether you have one child, none, or ten. In fact, one of our regulars is currently pregnant!!

The only strict rule we enforce is no fisticuffs. Anyone who behaves disagreeably will be ejected by Mellors (fully clad).

Most important of all - the tea room is meant for fun and support. It's perfectly acceptable, and in fact, mandatory, to be a little unhinged yourself.

Welcome all!!

(I've had a somewhat trying day so I will leave the crating and moving of china, and the actual shaping of the tea room, to everyone else... I did hear rumours of a spa being added, however, so please, book me in for a pedicure, will you? Thanks!)

hello lovely ladies!
I love Rose d'Anjou - it's the only one I like though generally.

I also really quite like Top Gear - especially the Hamster (I know, so obvious) since it stopped being so serious (i.e. when it was brought back to BBC2 after it had gone to 5th Gear and Tiff Needell stayed there) - Clarkson is a prize nob but he knows it and so do the other 2 and they all play up to it!

CMOTD - sounds like you had a good time in the end - hurrah!

teafortwo · 29/03/2009 22:40

We were also at the theatre today unfortunately the teddy bear puppet was too scary for Milk so we saw more of the entrance hall than the theatre room.

I thought it was very kind of the theatre company to give Milk a cd and book version of the play because she hadn't been in long enough to understand the storyline!

After this we went to see a friend and her new baby. After cooing and oooohing and munching of cake came the bit in the conversation that left me going "eeeerrrr mmmm" -

friend - So are you trying for a baby yet? (i.e like everyone else in the room/ in our 'gang' - they are all ttc or two have just given birth)

Me - No.

friend - I used to think I just wanted one child but I realised my older child would be happier with a sister or brother. Don't you want a nice big family?

Me - No, I don't have the mentality for a big family. Maybe if we feel like it when Milk is five or older we will have another but no no no not now. Everyone is different, all family sizes and age gaps are great... but different things work for different people. This works for us. This works for you. Great!

friend - Well- Milk will be very lonely!

mmmmm....

so, so, so....

Anyone for another glass of rose - I did take one but it seems to have gone very quickly!!!!

thumbbunny · 29/03/2009 22:42

oh Tea!!
Bloody people, always putting their own opinions and feelings on everyone else!
Sod them - have rose, big piece of chocolate cake and most unMNly (((hugs))).

mistlethrush · 29/03/2009 22:43

I'll have another Tea.

Wheresh that other thread? Linkhs pleash..

mistlethrush · 29/03/2009 22:45

Oh - yes, I had 'you might have another one' today too - although it was one from someone that has adopted, so it didn't get my back up

teafortwo · 29/03/2009 22:46

wow - thumbbunny - thanks a lot - this chocolate cake is ammmmmazzzzzzzzing!!! Yum yum!!!!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 29/03/2009 22:50

This is the thread on which you can see Daisy and MadBad doing cartwheels. We were, ahem, asked to leave guided back to the tea room.

Tea - Oh, honestly, some people have no awareness of what they're saying, do they?

Have some more wine.

teafortwo · 29/03/2009 23:01

ha ha ha mistlethrush - Actually daisy was chucked off the thread and madmad was dragged out by both arms !!!!

They caused quite a scene between the two of them!!!!

I am not going to cause them any undeserved attention for their bad behaviour by linking to it!!!!

  • you will have to search for it if you are REALLY that interested!!!

Funny - Milk is at the age where "When is the next one coming?" Is a 'hot' topic. I thought I had found the perfect answer - but it was frowned at and seen as a daft thought!

thumbbunny · 29/03/2009 23:01

I have also on offer some truly stupendous banana, strawberry, raspberry and chocolate flake pavlova - courtesy of DH. His first foray into the World of Meringue - and very tasty, if a little pancaked !

I saw a friend last Monday who was over from Ireland for a long weekend - she has a DS who is nearly 2.4 and I admit I did ask her if she was thinking of another - but prefaced it with "I know everyone probably asks the same thing" - and she thought maybe not now, as she thinks she has missed the ideal age gap - but since he has 12 cousins living close by all within 3 years of him in age, she is unlikely to get the same sort of hassle/bollocks that Tea just got dealt!

I was rather down today - not sure if appearance of AF had anything to do with it or not, although it does signify another round of Intensive Practice starting next Monday - DH has been warned to Gird His Loins.
There really is nothing quite so unromantic as serious TTC, is there?

teafortwo · 29/03/2009 23:02

sorry madbad cross post!!!!

teafortwo · 29/03/2009 23:07

Good luck thumbbunny!!!

mistlethrush · 29/03/2009 23:10

Ah, that thread. I decided that I had better not post as I not an 'I only ever wanted one child' person - more by default. Of course, that doesn't meant that ds isn't loved and appreciated as an only... its just that, if things had been a bit different....

Anyway, Madbad, I don't mind if I do.

And that pavolva sounds interesting tb, even if it might be slightly chewy by now (my favourite type of merangue!)

thumbbunny · 29/03/2009 23:11

thanks Tea!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 29/03/2009 23:13

Here you are, Mistle.

I thought we were just entering into the spirit of the occasion on that thread, but my ejection did make me wonder whether I was a no-longer-juvenile delinquent!

teafortwo · 29/03/2009 23:19

ha ha ha - Madmad - I was thinking of posting but got scared I might end up getting arrested again!!!

I think you were brave and funny!

Be proud

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 29/03/2009 23:21

Brave? Funny? You must be thinking of somebody else.

Let's have some more wine!

mistlethrush · 29/03/2009 23:24

MB - go on then

teafortwo · 29/03/2009 23:25

one last glass and it is bed for me - nice to have spent the evening here - good night xxxx

thumbbunny · 29/03/2009 23:27

It is a bit chewy but meant to be, it's yum. Am very impressed with his baking skills, he makes superb chocolate non-wheat muffins as well! must get him onto the idea of hot cross buns with special non-wheat flour....

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 29/03/2009 23:31

Cin cin!

thumbbunny · 30/03/2009 00:21

night all - am off to bed - catch you tomorrow!

daisy99divine · 30/03/2009 00:43

OH! I have been sitting on the swng seat alone for ages, and now seem to have missed you all!

Tea - I think Thumb put it best - people can be crap. I would put it down to her baby brain being caught up with the wonder of herself rather than a true dig at you and Mlik? on the other hand.... FFS!!!

Mistle I thought cartwheels treated that threat with the levity it should have had. And we should be grateful because otherwise I wouldn't have met you lot

Thumb sorry I missed you going off to TTC - bottoms up as they say

Not many people ask me if I want another now (dausyboy is 2 1/2 so it's a pretty good time for all others to be sprogging further) I obviously look Very Fierce when I say "no, one is perfect for us!" [gurn] [grimace] [back off]

Jacksmama · 30/03/2009 02:55

Don't feel lonely Daisy, I'm still here.
Was at a lovely baby shower luncheon today, and -of course!- was asked when we will be having #2. My face must have spoken volumes, because there was suddenly a hush at the table. And then my very lovely pregnant friend, who knows all about The Troubles, spoke up and in a very fierce voice said, "she's lucky to still be alive after what she went through to have DS, so FGS, drop that question now!" Bless her. I'm not used to having someone speak up for me and my heart sank at the thought of trying to explain to a table full of women... so I vowed to baby-sit hers at any occasion.

As for what we were up to during Earth Hour... well, we're not cleared yet to to the deed (check-up this Weds) but we had fun nonetheless. I promised to post an after-action report on the "injured bits after childbirth" thread once I've gathered up the courage but that may be TMI for this thread... if you're really curious I'll provide a link... eventually.

BTW, I did see that Daisy and MadBad were catapulted back to the tearoom from "the other thread" by someone named FlorenceOfArabia... who is she and should we invite her?

Good morning, all. What a fantastic day it was yesterday! Definitely spring.

Frosty here, but beautifully sunny. Trying to think of suitably spring-like breakfast, but failing.

Tea, how dare anyone try and force their choices on you. The trouble is, parenting is so fraught in many ways that people seem to think that anyone who does something in a different way to you is implicitly critizing their way of doing things. So they get in first with the criticism. Milk will not be lonely. She will have friends of all ages, adults and children, sensitive, fun and adventuous parents (think jail-break) and family of at least two nationalities.

(Although, having at least implied that all choices are valid, I did feel a bit queasy about a particularly dark green, virtuous home edder who was BFing her 5-year old.)

Anyway, on that interesting thought, I shall leave this vat of home-made muesli here, full of home-roasted peanuts since they are now offiically OK for babies, BFing mums, etc, and fresh alpine strawberries, thanks to the magic of the tea room.
