Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

1000 replies

UniS · 24/02/2009 10:49

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

Greetings Earthlings!

WOW
What a splendid Yurt - and yes! I can see you there behind that charming screen Amber

I also must confess to using baby wipes to do most of my yukky grease embedded cleaning -one summer in uni, I worked as a maid - (for about a week and a half, until I got a waitressing job with TIPS) and found them absolutely brilliant at removing everything - they are magical. Rather like Black holes, or little slices of anti-matter, they scoop up the yukky stuff.

I haven't been up on a horse since I was run away with by a big solid draft mare who wanted a bit of a stretch (about 21 years ago).. oh boy - were my arms tired after that! next day I had my driving test and I couldn't even get the handbrake off I had been driving around the route with the handbrake (plus light) on! And gaily bumping over the curbs at the corners saying "That's a big pothole there isn't it!?"

So I said to the inspector that I was on a run away horse the day before and had no strength in my arms... and... he passed me anyway! Yea! I had been driving for years before that on the farm so obv. do know the ins and outs of driving - but my arms were lead weights that day.

I have no idea what to do about the little ninja Mohawk flying babies - and sincerely hope it was really chocolate buttons they are throwing at us! maybe we can feed them some of the aspidistra, when they descend from their teeny tiny Lianas again?

Thank you for your story about blood donation, and keeling over when soothing your friend - I really gave my tummy muscles a work out!! too too hilarious

Did someone bring the Gin?

mistlethrush · 24/02/2009 22:44

You see, that was evidence of my dyslexia - now I look and think about it with hindsight, I can see where it went wrong... Dh is forever having to spell words for me if I can't think of an alternative.

Bolly, gin and sherry - sounds good to me. I've found some of those curly straws for the bombay saphire bottle....

mistlethrush · 24/02/2009 22:45

Hi Zazen - glad you made it!

DontCallMeBaby · 24/02/2009 23:14

I now have a clean cooker hood. It was all the talk of baby wipes, I HAD to do it. Perhaps we could talk about hoovering the bathroom tomorrow?

I'm off and away before it gets to midnight.

daisy99divine · 24/02/2009 23:32

Clearly I am the only one who uses baby wipes for babies

but then I always use eco cleaners, including Naturebott wipes. As far as I can tell eco cleaners are just there to be nice to the dirt and sit down in a circle to discuss whether it might or might not like to move sometime soon.

Maybe that is just because I am a hopeless cleaner

Thanks for the gin and bolly

Heh Zazen, glad you made it over to the Yurt in that rolled up rug!

Be careful with the cleaning talk. Remember that Bocca disappeared totally once she had mopped her floor - DCMB stay away from the bathroom!

thumbwitch · 24/02/2009 23:39

I agree with you on the eco cleaners, daisy - my ecover loo cleaner seems to be far too empathetic with the germs/scale/stains - doesn't seem overkeen to shift them anyway!

Donk · 25/02/2009 00:07

CMOT - there is no definite diagnosis of my father's brain tumour yet - but they are muttering glioma.
It doesn't sound good.
(DH is a cytogeneticist, and they do karyotyping on the things sometimes)

Donkey blows her nose on a large red handkerchief and decides that she had better go to bed.

daisy99divine · 25/02/2009 00:23

Oh Donk I have no idea what muttering Glioma means, but I am sorry so sorry...
do you want me to tuck you up in this pile of hay?

thumbwitch · 25/02/2009 00:28

more finger-crossing for you Donk - hope it's not a glioma.
Good night all

Jacksmama · 25/02/2009 03:48

From what I remember when I studied radiology, there are several types of gliomas. An "-oma" is a tumor. A "glioma" is a tumor of glial cells, which are the brain nerve cells. The term "glioma", as I remember it, gives no indication of the grade of tumor. It could, in fact, be a benign tumor! Only problem is that the brain is in a "limited space" sort of venue - being hemmed in by the skull, brain masses, also called "space occupying lesions", are problematic because they take up space where the isn't any extra to be had, and hence put pressure on existing brain matter. The degree of compromise of the brain depends on the size of the tumour, and of course, where it's located. So it could all be much better news than hoped for!

[very very hopeful emoticon]

UniS · 25/02/2009 08:34

morning.

mistlethrush · 25/02/2009 08:50

UniS - yes, I'll have a cuppa please. I'm sure that they must be related although clearly a different clan that has somewhat transformed since the split - I certainly can't understand what they're saying most of the time any way, but they do seem to be very keen on the chocolate buttons, and I've seen some of RP's twiglets disappearing too...

Donk, I hope that you have some positive news about things - thinking of you and your family.

Amber - I hope that you are managing to keep Mr Amber resting as much as possible and that its not causing you too much strain?

JM - I hope to hear that you've been behaving yourself and not carting Jackbaby around...

cmotdibbler · 25/02/2009 09:17

Donk - might it be glioblastoma that they are mentioning ? Which isn't good, I'm afraid. But until they have a definitive result, it's best not to think about all the types and their prognosis as they differ so much.

I rather like the idea of the Nac Mac Feegle being in the tearoom. We can put out some Special Sheep Liniment to see if it is them or not ?

Donk · 25/02/2009 09:43

CMOT - DH went very quiet when it was mentioned. Always a bad sign...

(Why oh why did I marry a cytogeneticist? You should have seen the light reading he passed on to me when I was pregnant at the ripe age of 41!)

Anyway, spoke to Dad this morning - he had had a bad day with all the tests but the op. is still on for tomorrow. He was tired but cheerful, now I'm just keeping all my appendages crossed for him.

amber32002 · 25/02/2009 09:59

Mr Amber is indeed resting, which is quite remarkable for him . I've persuaded him not to have a re-run of the duel, as exciting as it was at the time.

Donk, keeping everything crossed for you. They can do wonders with amazing laser thingies now in a lot of cases. Extra bucket of tea for you, I think?

cmotdibbler · 25/02/2009 10:02

Main thing is getting the operation out of the way for the moment. I'll be thinking of him during his day tomorrow

daisy99divine · 25/02/2009 11:51

Hugs, hay and carrots to Donk

Sit down to JM

Good new on the Amber and Mr Amber front

Mistle - how goes the job hunt in your neck of the woods?

CMOT hope you're still enjoying DH free time!

Catita hello and UniS is it the great Framers Panto tonight?

Would love tea, muffins and coffee please

mistlethrush · 25/02/2009 12:34

Still waiting for news

cmotdibbler · 25/02/2009 12:49

Daisy - well, he popped in last night, and then was out at crack of alarm clock this morning. Here all day tomorrow (to take me to collect car- hurrah !), then out Friday and away Friday night.

MT - I'm sure something will come up soon. Did he not hear back about the job he had the second interview for ?

UniS · 25/02/2009 12:56

the great framers panto started last night, to an audience of 40 ish, 2nd night tonight, hopefully ticket sales will pick up through teh week. saturday I think the theatre is pretty full for. It went OK, a few cock ups from me, sound an stage damagement, also from cast. but nowt major. we try again tonight, try to do it better this time.

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 25/02/2009 13:39

I love stage damagement too! Was that a real typo of on purpose

Don't worry, I think that they've got something rigged up wtih the curly straws up in the roof - at least, I think that's why there is an interesting arrangement of them up in teh rafters!!!

UniS · 25/02/2009 13:53

Stage damagement = OLD JOKE. unflattering name for them, along with "squints" for lighting types, and "hum heads" for noise boys. newer is the name Vidiot for AV techs.

Arrh, curly straws, of course, thats where they all got to then. I though someone had pinched them for craft. Lets hope mohawk babies have better aiming skills than most tots. Or we shall get dripped on.

mistlethrush · 25/02/2009 14:12

Dh and I got 'called' the other night by ds ('I want a wee' - 'well go and have one then') and then another call 'mummy!!!' I went up to investigate... As it was late and he was sleepy he'd used the todler toilet seat (very sensible). However, he hadn't made sure that everything was in the correct place.... Cue me calling dh to bring up the carpet shampoo while I went to find a new set of pJ's. Quite what direction it was pointing in I don't know, but he managed to get a surprising coverage... Oh the delights of small boys!!!!

daisy99divine · 25/02/2009 14:25

I love that Aim and Go thing! We are just potty training/ loo going with DaisyBoy. His little bits are so small when he holds it there is nothing left for the pan so he is forever weeing over his hand which he doesn't like!

Me, well, it's a learning curve isn't it! don't ever look up to answer a question, DaisyBoy and I squirted in every direction!

As DH says, it's all very much like puppy training

thumbwitch · 25/02/2009 15:04

something for me to look forward to then when DS gets bigger! I think I will definitely make sure DH takes full part in his toilet-training though.

naked mohawk nacmacfeegles, hey - good job we don't have any coo-beasties or ships then, isn't it - I don't recall the
MacFeegles taking an interest in pigs?
