Yep. Epic is good in boy speak.
We took boy out of school for the day and went to watch both start and finish of Tour of Britain stage 5. He also got 25 miles of training ride in. And has to write a report of the day for His class teacher.

So sorry, I haven't abandoned the Tearoom. It just completely slipped off my 'threads'.

All good here in Bean-land. Small Bean is enjoying being back at school although I think he would rather not bother with the formal stuff if he was given a choice Grin. Lots of after school activities and we are back to weekends of rugby and swimming.

Hope that all is well for the other Tearoomers.

::Also wanders in, carrying a tray of breakfast goodies::

Back to school has been a fairly good experience for us, too, but - ugh - the early starts!

UniS · 15/09/2014 23:15

I thought I posted earlier, but hey ho, the internet must have got peckish and eaten it. This post will have less cake in to to deter another chomping.

Back to school, eek, its only been a week. Boy is tired already and was up to bed at 7pm tonight. so much for being a big year 4 boy... He is very keen on being a big year 4 who can cross the road on his own, he is in fact keeping a tally of how any times he gets sent across the road in school hours, the other day must have been good, it was 3 times. Wonder if he did any class work that day.

For those who don't know, boys school is built on both sides of a minor country lane. 3 classrooms on one side with the hall , office and library. 4 classrooms and playground on the other side.

Has anyone seen Donki recently? How is she? The hay pile is still there if needed and I'm pretty sure Mauds Goodies included Carrot cake.

Is anyone in here?

UniS · 27/09/2014 16:14

Boo

Fancy a g&t?

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 04/10/2014 22:01

Thanks, UniS. I might take a vat of it, if you don't mind? It's been a weird few weeks and I just want to curl up and hide.

UniS · 04/10/2014 22:58

Hiya scout.
One VER large G&T coming your way, along with the choc box of requirements.

Do you have any contacts in Girl scouts who might be able to acquire a couple of the "letterboxer" GS Brownie badge? ITs a lovely little badge, not in the UK brownies set , and letterboxing is a bit of hobby of mine.

In fact I think I like the GS brownie badges better than I like the UK ones. They are very cute. I'm putting together a picture round based on brownie badges for a quiz,

Boy is back at Cubs and having a great time, they were campfire cooking last week, next week will be making robin hood hats for carnival. Its quite a small group, only about 9 kids currently as more have gone up to scouts than are incoming from Beavers. And we are in quite a small village , so of the boys in year 4 who live here all but 1 of them are in cubs already. We also have brownies which tends to attract most of the girls.

Scout - I hope you find all the necessary accessories to hide with in here, the good bookshelf is over there and I have left a fluffy blanket over eth back of the distressed chinz sofa . Mellors will turn the lights out when you ask him too.

Scout19075 · 04/10/2014 23:51

Cheers!

I have some G.S. friends who could probably get the badge for me. Otherwise, if you don't mind waiting until November/December I can pick one (or more?) up for you when we're back in Scoutsilvania for Thanksgiving.

MaudantWit · 04/10/2014 23:57

Hi ladies. I'm afraid this dropped my TIO too, but I just spotted you in active convos.

I've had a busy day was was looking forward to sleep, but someone in the next street seems to be having a wild party. Should have invited me. Hey ho.

Scout19075 · 04/10/2014 23:59

SmallBoy is turning five at the end of the month. Village Hall in a neighboring village has said they're free for the day we'd like to have SB's party AND the hall has a good playground out back. I'm hoping he'll get over the disappointment of not being able to have his party at the local park (they can't/won't hire out their room during school holidays). He wants to invite eight friends (plus him and the baby sister of a brother/sister set of friends) -- I think that's a good size for a friend party for turning five.

Given how much he seems to have grown (some of his clothes are now size 6, including his new winter coat which I'm wondering if we should have ordered a 7) and the fact that's turning five I think I might have to stop calling him "SmallBoy" on these threads. Sad MrScout asked me again today if SB has grown and then said "I remember when he fit on my lap to put him in his bearsuit!" It's not like MrScout to get so melancholy for SB's babyhood....!

UniS · 05/10/2014 19:52

modest sized boy ?
slightly bigger boy SBB ?
not so small as small but not so big as big boy boy?

Or is all getting a bit too much like nac mac feegle names?

No rush at all on badges scout, its just for blankets. I have a japan jamboree patch to sew on tonight. I've not forgotten you would like one, expect I can pick some up at the scout group AGM/ renovated scout hut opening shindig in a couple of weeks time.

( or so fort a party sounds great. and having a park/ playground handy is good too.

Hi Maud. I don;t think it was the triple 40th party from our village keeping you awake, but it might have been. the band were VERY loud.

Anyone care to join me in congratulatory cake? I managed to not come last in a cyclocross race today. beat at least one bloke and one woman, was beaten by at least 2 blokes and 1 women, which leaves 2 of the novice category riders unaccounted for, so I'm not sure where I came, but NOT last.

MaudantWit · 05/10/2014 20:10

SlightlyBiggerBoy?

That sounds like a perfect party, Scout.

Congratulatory Cake would be lovely. Well done on the cyclocross, UniS!

I did get to sleep eventually, once I'd burrowed under the duvet. Were you at the wild party?

UniS · 05/10/2014 21:28

I was at wild party briefly - till the bar ran out of beer and started selling half pints of wine! * I then decided I did have to get up in the morning and quietly departed.

  • while a couple of lads went up the pub to collect another half barrel of rack bright beer.

UniS · 05/10/2014 23:20

shapes were certainly being busted last night.

We went to the HE monthly Skate & Play yesterday. SB decided he didn't need me and barely had his skates on before he took off to the rink on his own. He proceeded to go around the loop on his own, for nearly an hour, the lone slow small boy amongst a group of fast skating big kids. After every lap he'd come off (I was sitting on a bench by one of the on/off spots, watching), give me a High 10 and a hug and go off again.

SmallBoy had an amazing swim class today. I was so proud of him. And he clearly was proud of himself because he came out of the pool and through the tunnel to where the parents wait calling "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, I had a LOVELY lesson today!" Needless to say he made all of the mums around me chuckle. He has a very adult turn of phrase.

Been sorting out SB's birthday party (three weeks today until his birthday -- eek!). I've never thrown a friends party before and I have no idea if what I'm doing/planning is going to be "acceptable" to the British sensibilities or not. A friend from home (who now lives in Canada) has asked if I can adopt her so she can come. My brother, who arrives in England in two weeks (and leaves for the continent the day in between SB's birthday and his party) is going to help me make some things for the party. As well he's being a mule and bringing presents and party supplies.

It seems as if our annual trip has been booked. SB's British passport renewal took under a week but the Americans still have their paperwork for that renewal (he got his first passports on the same day back in 2009). I'm starting to get anxious now. And I'm going to bite the bullet and finally go get my British passport in January (I've been entitled to it since March 2009 but have always been too lazy or too frustrated by the process to apply).

ARGH, stress!

UniS · 08/10/2014 08:04

Skate session sounds brilliant.
Can SB tavel on either passport?

MaudantWit · 08/10/2014 08:37

::proffers breakfast goods of requirement::

Skating does sound great, Scout!

trinitybleu · 08/10/2014 08:47

Ohhh, hello. How have I never seen this gang before? May I join you? I have a DD (7) and that's plenty! Smile

MaudantWit · 08/10/2014 08:53

Of course, trinity. The more, the merrier. Would you like a croissant?

Settle down on the distressed chintz sofa and tell us more about yourself.

trinitybleu · 08/10/2014 16:11

Ohhh, yummy! Is there Nutella for it? Cos a pound of butter in those flaky layers just isn't enough ....

So like I said, 1 DD. She was a surprise and def no plans for anymore. I work ft and so does OH, no family nearby so we rely heavily on before and after school clubs. I worry about her missing out on going to tea with friends, random trips to the park after school type things. The things you arrange spur of the moment in the playground, you know? We also struggle to fit in homework and spellings etc. so I worry we're selling her short there too. I'm a worried - can you tell? Grin

I also do Brownies, PTA and just set up doing a mail order thing (bit like Avon but new and higher quality) so busy busy!
