Hello....

...Hello....

.....ello.....

UniS · 04/08/2014 12:40

Hello hello hello. Fell off my threads list. How's your summer going. Is SB off to big school in sept or do you gave another year to go?
Our holiday is rocketing by. Been away for a few days cycling. As of wed I hit a solid week of work. Still need to full in a gap or two in my childcare arrangements . oops.

What flavour ice cream would you like mellors to bring you?
I'm asking for a treacle toffee ripple in vanilla. In a waffle cone.

SB should start in September but we're home educating, at least through infants and/or juniors so not actually starting in September. We've been "doing work" for a while, though, because SB really likes it (math and science mostly but phonics in the form of Alphablocks, too, and religion in the form of a curriculum for preschoolers & Little Church on Sundays during Mass or Big Church as he/his teachers call it). We've been spending most of our time outside either at various localish parks & playgrounds, National Trust sites or in our yard. Swirly tennis and the way too small for him now water table are favorites in the yard. Unfortunately a lot of his friends both schooling and non-schooling -- have been away and/or busy this past week but he's been working on his"playing with strange children in the park and making friends.". This week we have more plans with known friends.

I think I have a summer cold, which is miserable. I want to curl up with tea and a blanket and sleep but instead I'm outside playing swirly tennis.

We're going to be down in your county in a few weeks, UniS. SB has his entire week/holiday planned already. Must remember to get his fishing net out of my FiL garage!

UniS · 04/08/2014 15:16

Happy fishing. Which coast will you be nearest? A crab line, some scraps of meat and a bucket can find you some great entertainment in rock pools or harbours.

Boy has taken himself off to bed for an hour! He wants to stay up late tonight racing and was late last night. So I have agreed that an hour in bed is a very good idea.

Arrrrrrgh.
PiL are here, conversations go circular, every piece of into has to be given twice at least and MiL will still get wrong end of stick.

Arrrrgh.

UniS, I feel your pain. At PiL and in-laws with the herd of children are here and I feel the same way.

Today she lost our house key....
Panicked, insisted on walking back to park to look for it. Oh no or could not possibly be in her handbag, she had definatly dropped it.... She returned home 25 mins later and admitted she had found it in her handbag... Ho hum.

It's early, but I don't care.

UniS · 16/08/2014 13:44

Thank you scout. Off to a village show n fete this afternoon. Time to hook a duck, shy a coco but and see if my Victoria sandwich is prize winning standard.

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 16/08/2014 15:36

What's shy a coco, UniS?

I'm not sure how I envisioned my 40th but today doesn't seem to be it.

UniS · 16/08/2014 19:28

Sorry. That should have said shy a coconut. As in lob balls at coconuts balanced in stands till one falls off, then you win said coconut.

Which he did, successfully. Also won some tat on hoopla.DH won Bottle of wine on raffe and I found something to my taste on the book stall.

Horticultural show , boy over joyed to win cash for first place " rainbow on a plate". I was pleased with second place peas, bread and cheese scones.

Mmm, yummy cake UniS. Congrats to the whole UniS family on their village show triumphs.

We're off to UniS-shire at the end of the week. SB is very excited. I just hope we have at least one day of "beach and sea weather" because SB is most excited about the beach. We'll be at the south coast, UniS, in a seafront town. The fishing net is by the door, ready to go.

UniS · 17/08/2014 23:18

Fab - have a good un. we are visiting the south coast on Saturday, boy is bike racing, my parents are visiting, so a little bit of racing followed by walking over to the beach is called for.

Unis strolls into the tea room, the tumble weed blows past and out of the door.

Unis sweeps sand from behind the sofa and removes a cobweb from eth aspidistra.

Its a new term, you can come back, the tea room is open for business again.

So Tea room owners of small cyclists... Boys head teacher has all but told me to take him out of school one day this week to watch the Tour of Britain stage in our county. I think I have to follow her advice don't I? We could see the start and the finish and get a 20 mile training ride in... That's gotta be educationally valid, right?

I'd say "of course it is, UniS" but I am the residential home edder and can find educational value in just about anything and everything. Wink

How has Back to School been for the Tea Roomers and the mini Tea Roomers?

SmallBoy seems to have settled well into HE life as, so far, it hasn't been much different to normal life. He's struggling with the "loss" of his BFF. I'm not really sure how or why since he didn't see her every day before (she was at nursery two days a week before plus, like SB, had other friends she'd visit, too). We're still seeing her for swimming class and when she gets into the school routine we'll be going over for after-school play dates. He's more or less said he's worried BFF will forget him and not want to play any more. Sad He has played with BFF's little brother (who is also his friend) last week and this morning (while I went to the doctor for an appointment I didn't want to discuss in front of a small boy). Since we're giving the BFF family a ride to/from swimming now (otherwise she wouldn't make it with the bus schedule) we're going to go early today and wait at the bus stop so SB can see what she does and that she hasn't forgotten him.

SB is now in "big boy" after school swim classes. He was so proud last week after his lesson (first one of term last week). We also have other monthly activities in our HE diary that SB is also really excited about (Forest School, sports, soft play). I really want to get a science group going but with my treatment due to start in the next three/four months I don't want to overload myself. I'll see how it goes.

SB and I are off to explore the Wildlife Area across the street and see what berries are about for us to pick. I can see some of the apple trees getting heavy with fruit. Grin I've already been blackberry picking in August they were ripe really early this year but we're going to see if there are bushes in the WLA since not a lot of people go exploring up there.

UniS · 09/09/2014 22:26

Glad the small boy swimming g is still with bff. Boy started a stage 6 swim class today. His first comment after it was "epic" so I think he was fine.

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 11/09/2014 13:13

Sounds like "epic" is a good thing, UniS. What did you decide to do about the cycling event?

We spent most of yesterday at the park. We went to do our Bubble Science kit with it's experiments but also learned about grass fires (grass was being burned by the wardens), pond reeds (and SB was given one by the volunteers who were clearing out the pond) and played (and played and played) on the playground equipment with friends. Nice day, really.

Having a much needed "at home" day today though we might go to town in a bit to take donations to the charity shop and recycling to the recycling center. Weather's looking very overcast.

SB is most likely going to have his first ever "friends" birthday party for turning five. He is so excited it's scary! Given that he has a half-term birthday and is going to have his party during half-term (so that school friends can go, too), how early would people give out invitations? Of the school children he wants to invite two have stay at home parents (well, the one has parents who arrange their work schedules so one of them is always home with the kids) and one I know does clubs/activities during school breaks but is now going to be cared for by a grandparent after school (and possibly breaks, but I'm not sure). It just feels really complicated....!
