Episode 33 - The Orangery - Tea anyone?

mistlethrush · 08/05/2012 08:58

The tearoom has traveled back to the Orangery for another visit. There are bluebells in the nearby woods, and Mellors has Earl Grey and Lady Grey ready for some excursions. Mellors has, indeed, been overwintering away from Canada for some reason - I think he's been helping Maud out in the garden. There are tulips out in urns outside, and there are a few tables out in the sunny courtyard for use between showers.

Whether you have one child or several, pull up a chair and share a Brew or a Wine. The only rules remains no fisticuffs.

::hugs all those who are around and feel like a quick love in::
Wine as well/ instead

CMOT I have that a bit too -we are the "second set" of grandchildren and at times it tells. To be fair, not for "big" occasions but the daily round. Definite difference. I really like LaBelle's idea of adopting locals - some time ago someone wrote about a local elderly person swopping tales of parents and chldren and "for five minutes filling each other's gaps" can't remember who but a really resonant idea - someone who is around to look at the new certificate/ hear the reading story/ watch the snail trail etc immediate, local and old! It must be particuarly poignant with your mum and dad....

UniS happy birthday for you tomorrow too. I, peversely, would go to (a) - is it too far to cycle?

mistlethrush · 03/07/2012 07:32

Hmmmm I would have thought that he would have known - because prize winners normally have to sit in a different place from the rest (at least based on previous experience.

MT 'thinks' that he doesn't do so well with visits from his paternal grandmother - as she goes over to the continent for a week to visit the other set (two girls). However, she does come here for more regular shorter visits - and he's going for a week in the summer, so I really don't think he's justified. On my side, I'm an only and so is ds - so he has all the attention. FiL is not interested.

Happy Birthday, UniS!

Scout19075 · 03/07/2012 09:12

I'm about to take Toddler roller skating for the first time. Found a place near where Tea & Milk and Toddler & I met that has a Toddler hour for the under 4s to have a try/practice (and free skate rentals for the littles). Wish me luck! Toddler seems excited to try but we'll see if he's still excited when we get there and I strap the skates to his shoes.

Wriggle may have finally pushed me towards vegetarian veganism. We were looking at some prawns I had bought for lunch. Lovely big fat king prawns, ready cooked to eat.

Wriggle: Where are their heads, Mummy?
LaBelle: [evasive mumble]
Wriggle: How do they dream at night?

No longer felt that hungry and have chopped them up small in my lunch box for tomorrow. I blame the school for bringing in lobsters and fish (live) for the children to see and paint.

mistlethrush · 03/07/2012 20:38

I'm vege - have been since I was 6. But mc is very much an omnivore. Although he's completely aware of the fact that he's eating animals that have to be killed and chopped up. He really enjoys eating whitebait and pointing out that he's eating their heads. I can cope as long as he doesn't wave them in my face first. Although I don't cook meat - DH can do that.

Happy Birthday UniS
I hope that you saw some sun!

It is the YD's sports day tomorrow, but I don't know how likely school will be to cancel it due to inclement weather. They sent a note home today reminding everyone to send in sun hats and sun cream! I'm sure that letter was a nail in the coffin for sports day...

The YD is fairly omnivorous, so long as there are no bones and no 'slime' (fat/cartilage/connective tissue of any kind) - but he is currently refusing to eat pork or pork products because it would upset Piglet.

beanandspud · 03/07/2012 21:33

Happy Birthday Unis! Sorry it's a bit belated, hope you have had a great day!

Small Bean eats pretty much anything, I am a fish-eating veggie and he is only just asking questions about why mummy and daddy eat different things. It isn't so noticeable at home but tonight for example where the show had a set meal and I had the veggie option he couldn't quite get his head around it.

Scout - if you haven't got it look out for the 'Here comes a train' DVD - it is one of Small Bean's favourites and the songs are annoyingly catchy! There is also a fire engine, digger and tractor one...

Thoroughly enjoying our holiday. Just put a very tired Small Bean to bed so Mr Bean and I are sitting reading and drinking wine and I am reading the tearoom news while he drops off!

Scout19075 · 03/07/2012 21:35

We're going to one of the RAF/USAF bases around here tomorrow for the 4th of July celebrations. Fingers crossed for no rain.

mistlethrush · 03/07/2012 21:55

Bean, mc aged 2.5, shocked MiL completely.... 'I love lambs.... I eat lambs and I eat sheep and I eat cows and I eat pigs and I eat...'

sun?? what is this sun you speak of? we don't seem to have any of it down here in damp datymoor.

Many thank yous for teh birthday wishes, you are all very kind and sweet and I'd like you all to have a big slice of cake with me.

I have been a bit of a cake piglet today... ummmm, cake....

oxeye · 04/07/2012 02:46

I'm here for cake!!! ever a birthday buddy when cake is around!

LaBelle - love that Wriggle touch! Our attempts at dealing with death, afterlife and eating meat (not quite in that order) is that Oxboy will cheerfully chow down on a burger and then say "was this a little piggy wiggy wig or a cow in the field or was it grandpa" Hmm so we are full of mixed messages!!

Yes, we have Jinxed Sports Day due to Required Suncream. They had a practice today. In their raincoats - and compulsory sun cream!

oxeye · 04/07/2012 02:46

oh Scout I meant to ask, how did Toddler do on roller skates? And Happy 4 of July

Scout19075 · 04/07/2012 07:48

Someone PLEASE send some sun my way. PLEASE! The 4th of July is not meant to be this cold and wet. How is one meant to celebrate with parades and special tee-shirts (tee-shirts, people, NOT sweatshirts) and flags and BBQs and fly-bys when the weather is this sh!tty?! I mean, really.

ARGH!

Scout19075 · 04/07/2012 10:54

Toddler's been singing the Bunny Rabbits Have No Tails song all morning and it's slowly driving me mad. ARGH. What have I done?!

mistlethrush · 04/07/2012 11:33

Mc was singing 'There is blue sky over clouds of grey, though you can't see it' and then bursting into tears 'because I love that song and I'll never sing it again because they sing different songs in choir in Junior School'

Still grey here....

The sun came out today. hurrah.

rhubarb and custard cake? or victoria sponge?

I said I'd do a GF cake for the vilage fete... must get round to baking it.

Donki · 04/07/2012 19:28

Awwww! Poor MC... can he sing it with you MT?

Donki · 04/07/2012 19:32

Hello Oxeye.
Our sports day too (as anticipated) was jinxed by sunhats and compulsory sun cream. :( They claim that it will be rescheduled. I don't believe that they will have any more luck than last year when it was rained off three times!

oxeye · 05/07/2012 00:08

Well fingers crossed we've got sports day tomorrow. Rather darkly Oxboy informed me that sports day Is Not Cancelled whatever the weather Confused

mistlethrush · 05/07/2012 07:29

Oxeye - that's very funny! Good training for cross country and rugby I'm sure!
