Episode 33 - The Orangery - Tea anyone?

mistlethrush · 08/05/2012 08:58

The tearoom has traveled back to the Orangery for another visit. There are bluebells in the nearby woods, and Mellors has Earl Grey and Lady Grey ready for some excursions. Mellors has, indeed, been overwintering away from Canada for some reason - I think he's been helping Maud out in the garden. There are tulips out in urns outside, and there are a few tables out in the sunny courtyard for use between showers.

Whether you have one child or several, pull up a chair and share a Brew or a Wine. The only rules remains no fisticuffs.

I'll have tea and ginger cake please!
sorry about your friend Mistle

hello all lovely tea people! Sorry not to be around for ages, I have just not been MN lately. All good here, Oxboy is back at school, and happy with it; work fine, summer awesome!

another autumnal date here - seems to be some gingerbread left, or some moist coffee and walnut cake to go with coffee/ latte/ hot chocolate or other beverage of choice....

I hope that we've addressed the 'break time problem making girl' issue speedily and promptly before it got out of hand... strange that its the same girl again. I wonder if anyone's told her mother what a horrid little manipulative madam she's bringing up?

I would love a Brew and some sticky ginger cake please. It's very cold here today but I refuse to put away my flip flops just yet.

Had to peel Small Bean off me in tears at school drop off this morning [first time since starting]. Suspect it's Friday-itis at the end of his first full week but was very Sad as I hate seeing him like that and it's quite unusual.

There is much truth in the 'Friday meltdown' syndrone... DS has even self diagnosed a 'Friday meltdown' on a Tuesday Grin. It is completely new and completely exhausting - and you will probably have the same fatigue issues every change of year for a while. I never realised how important half terms were until I started experiencing how tired DS got and he really needed them to recharge his batteries for the remainder of term.

Is it generally going well apart from this morning though?

Thanks MT. Yes, I think it was just a 'Friday moment' - apparently he was absolutely fine when I left. Everything else is going really well at school, he is enjoying it and beginning to make friends [nearly all of the other children attended the school nursery together so he was one of about four 'newbies' in Recption which has been a bit strange for him].

Just off to bed [yawn] - it's been a long week...

Ladies, can I offer you a slice of award winning ( village show 2nd place) Victoria Sandwich? or maybe you prefer award winning ( 1st place kids class) Toffee, Marshmallow and Skittles Cornflake cakes? I'd steer clear of the alarmingly bright butterfly cakes tho, boy does like to use quite a lot of food colouring, they got a 1st as well tho, somehow....

Wine for Unis (that's a silver cup!!) and congrats to Boy too!

Cake would go down well with the wine.

Well done, UniS!

For those wanting the healthy option, I can offer 2nd prize winning (they also serve who only stand and wait) apples.

Ever cake needs an appreciative audience of cake eaters.... This is why half my Vic sandwich had been eaten before we left the village hall yesterday.

Boy was bike racing today ( again ) and came second. A really exciting U8 race, with boy and his rival battling it out all the way round 10 mins plus 1 lap. Super racing from both of them. MUCH more exciting than the U10 race.

mistlethrush · 17/09/2012 08:21

How old is his rival UniS because boy's still got more than a year left in that age category hasn't he!

I should have asked you about bikes before the summer -because we could have popped in on the Islabikes sizing place and let mistlechick try some out - local shop is getting a ridgeback in for him to try for size but its 3kg heavier than the larger islabike... need to check for quick release wheels too as we could still put one with a quick release wheel in the car with all of us, but would have to start taking a bike rack if it didn't - which is more bother...

He's trying out the crosscountry running club this morning. In practise we ran some of the way round the park on Saturday - he was surprised that I could run fairly effectively for quite a long time - I had to keep stopping for the dog though as I had her on her flexi-lead and she kept on wanting to stop for a wee - she's on the flexi as she's a bit old now and doesn't appear to have the brain power left for keeping up as well as going round the park, even though she's still quite able to run - add that to the fairly deaf and pretty blind and you have a potentially lost dog wandering around!

I hope that mc will work out that getting into a strop about having to do his homework and then spending lots of effort on delaying tactics whilst doing it simply extends the process... I'm not quite sure how you're meant to time 20mins if they're up and down and fetching a drink and going to the loo and.. and.. and.. whilst the 20 mins is meant to be happening.... (20 mins is the maximum time they should spend on their homework)

I see that there's a bit of UniS's cake left - and some prizewinning apples too! I've made some Brew to go with them...

[BTW, Thumb - did I really see you're that far along on another thread?]

Rival is only 6 months older. so has another year in that class if not more. Good to see a pair of year 1's showing some idea of tactical racing tho.

Some one kick me, I'm using delaying tactics... my home work should only take so long too, but I seem to be messing about.

Hmm... I seem to be struggling to get on with my report Wink so I'm afraid I've not got time to kick you, but I could make you a cup of tea and have a quick chat?

Is there still some Brew on the go?

Well done to prize winning boys, apples and cakes and to running round the park!

I wish I had an answer to the delaying tactics - Small Bean is exactly the same. If he stopped faffing around at bedtime and just got ready he would have twice as many stories. Fortunately we don't have to worry about proper homework just yet - working out the daily routine and remembering all of the new stuff is enough for me.

This morning's drop off was much better - thanks to a sticker chart and the promise of a treat at the end of the week I'm hoping we will crack it. Who would believe the power of a sticker for a 4yr old Grin

After following up with GP who chased the hospital it turns out the Consultant wasn't clear on when the new drug would be available in my area. I thought start was Spring 2012 but it's not until Spring 2013. I have another approx 8-10 months to panic/worry. Toddler will turn four in the middle of it so will have memories of it/my side effects. I'll turn 39 during it (or 40 depending on the actual start). Hell, if I had known that we could have tried for and had a second BabyScout (not that we were going to but it could have been a possibility).

Wine for scout and a soothing back massage from Mellors?

Its not good when they don't seem to be able to give you consistent / sufficient info.

The consultant was lovely but isn't there any more (she left in Feb/Mar, I found out my news in Jan) and I think she genuinely thought the meds would be available in the spring. It turns out they are NHS available but haven't rolled out to all of the PCTs yet and mine isn't due to get it until 2013. ARGH! Just ARGH!

While I love the NHS and I won't knock it and am grateful that where we live we can choose between two hospitals one of which has an awesome reputation medically that my GP in the US knows it it's times like this I wish I was in the US. There would be no waiting for it to be available, it would be already and I'd just pay the prescription charge (insurance) and be done. Then again, I don't know if the insurance policy I had prior to moving would have actually covered it then we'd be looking at USD60k or so (not including all of the doctors' appointments, blood tests, etc).

MomScout did have a positive point to the whole thing, though. At least by pushing treatment back I'll hopefully be able to sort out Toddler and toilet training before starting so that's one less stress/strain to deal with.

Scout - whilst toddler will be older and might remember a bit, its very unlikely that it will be a significant memory for him - I think that the only thing I can really remember which was definitely then was going to Portugal on holiday. Whilst there are effects, that will be 'normal' for toddler at the time. And hopefully he will be able to understand a bit better that you need to have this and whilst it might mean you're not yourself for a bit, you will get better again and it will all be OK.

Wine for a Friday evening?
