The Nordic Tearoom (Number 31)

We have moored the barge for the winter and have moved to a beautiful, cosy log cabin in deepest Scandinavia overlooking a frozen lake and surrounded by pine trees.

Mellors has lit the log fires and candles, it is snowing outside and there are comfortable seats for everyone and fleecy blankets to snuggle up in. For the more active tearoomers there are skis and sledges outside as well as a steaming hot tub for winding down after a busy day.

So pull up a chair. The kettle is on for Brew and there is always plenty of Wine depending on your mood and time zone. (Alternatively there is schnapps, smorgasbord and smoked fish).

Everybody is welcome ? share as much or as little as you like ? but no fisticuffs please!

Well, I've made a slow cooker sweet & sour chicken which is ready (I heart my slow cooker!) and have rice on to go with it. Would you fancy some of that?

beanandspud · 05/01/2012 19:32

That sounds lovely - and far nicer than the mackerel and salad that I was going to have!

I'll pour the Wine! Have you had a good day?

Day was okay. Had hoped to go to YOUT to do a bit of shopping and wandering but the weather was dreadful and I couldn't face it. How about you?

Cheers! Wine

beanandspud · 05/01/2012 19:53

Thanks Scout... clinks glasses...

Have been working so not very exciting I'm afraid. The weather is pretty awful here as well - just looking forward to the weekend and hoping that we can get out and about.

I'm watching SuperNanny on YouTube -- this particular one seems scary (a lot of them I feel sorry for the kids and blame the parents). I've never seen a young one sooooo angry.

beanandspud · 05/01/2012 20:10

I'm half watching Location, Location and looking at holidays online - it's rock 'n' roll here Grin

Two year olds on a naughty step? Do they understand?

Jacksmania · 05/01/2012 20:51

Oooh, big (((((HUGS)))))) are lovely. I'll take as many as I can get!!

Just popping in briefly, busy day at work.

UniS · 05/01/2012 20:56

My 2 yr old managed to subvert the "naughty spot" and refused to leave it when time was up.... so we stopped using that method of discipline and went for the ( for us far more effective and I still use it 3 years down the line) "threat to place toy vehicle on high shelf" only had to carry it out once or twice and boy does he believe I'm serious about what ever it is when I get to that level. instant compliance/ apology/ good behaviour ensues.

Nice dinner scout- good choice.

Scout19075 · 05/01/2012 21:03

If Toddler does something and one of us are holding him after a warning he goes on the floor. If he's on the floor and does something (ie, throws a toy), I remove him from the toys (putting him on the mat by the door seems effective). It stops him in his tracks, he stops wobbling and doesn't do whatever the naughty thing was when he wanders back.

I'm lonely this evening. (And a bit broody Confused -- really shouldn't watch One Born Every Minute.)

beanandspud · 05/01/2012 21:06

Did you enjoy your G&T?

We also have a jar where we threaten that cars or trains will go if Small Bean doesn't behave. Have occasionally used The Step as a place to go and think about our behaviour but again it's a last resort.

I should go grocery shopping at 9:40 p.m. on Thursday every week. It was lovely!

UniS · 05/01/2012 23:17

haven't actually had it yet Blush didn't quite get round to it. Hot choc seemed more appropriate just before bed time.

amberlight · 06/01/2012 12:20

Morning all. Here I am in the hospital waiting for dh's eye surgery to be completed, so might as well offer a Brew to everyone whilst I'm here.

I did a silly thing today dressed Toddler in a pair of khaki trousers since we were supposed to go to the soft play place. TS was adament that he didn't want to go there so I offered the park/playground to which he said "OH Yes!" So we went there. Playground after days of rain in khaki trousers not the smartest thing I've done this week, that's for sure! TS, however, had a blast running around the slide and then the park. Small boys and their clothes are washable. Watching toddler enjoying himself in the cold and sunshine, priceless!

UniS · 06/01/2012 14:44

Thank you for Brew amber.

UniS passes Amber a "Landrover basher weekly" magazine to help her fill time.

I can report back- I have now tried G&T and I shall not be bothering to try that again in a hurry. Not to my taste, got slightly better after i added a dash of Blackcurrant squash. but not better enough to bother making sloe gin.

amberlight · 06/01/2012 16:56

Thank you for the hand and the LR mag. We are home, after a day where ther hospital Forgot It Wasn't Under Local Anaesthetic and hadn't allocated an anaesthetist etc. Sorted it. DH now resting. I have Brew. I shall put some out for others.

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 19:22

Another late night for MrScout (argh!) so dinner on my own again. Anyone care to join me?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 06/01/2012 19:35

Sure! I'd be delighted.

Jacksmania · 06/01/2012 19:38

Brew anyone?

CMOTDibbler · 06/01/2012 19:40

Mmm, please JM. Whats in the slow cooker tonight Scout ?

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 19:41

JM! Hello, how are you? Was thinking about you earlier today.

Maud, Grin. They used that song for an advert years ago but I'll be hanged if I can remember what brand used it. Tonight we have sausages & mash.

UniS · 06/01/2012 19:45

May I join your select little dinner party too?

Think I'm gonna spend part of this evening in the company of Lord Peter Whimsey. Then teh rest of it in teh pub. Got to collect boys bike from a friends house sometime too. Forgot it was swimming night and we had a lift direct from school, let boy ride his bike to school ( should have used tandem) then had to park it with a friend who lives closer to school in case the caretaker looks the playground gate tonight. bike club in the morning 25 miles away! Boy is VVVV keen on cycling at the mo. His British Cycling race licence came in the post yesterday. My little boy is now subject to the UCI anti doping policeys and could be subject to blood testing , random or after winning!!!!! I wonder if Haribo is banned substance?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 06/01/2012 19:50

I should think so, UniS. It's pretty potent stuff!
