The Nordic Tearoom (Number 31)

We have moored the barge for the winter and have moved to a beautiful, cosy log cabin in deepest Scandinavia overlooking a frozen lake and surrounded by pine trees.

Mellors has lit the log fires and candles, it is snowing outside and there are comfortable seats for everyone and fleecy blankets to snuggle up in. For the more active tearoomers there are skis and sledges outside as well as a steaming hot tub for winding down after a busy day.

So pull up a chair. The kettle is on for Brew and there is always plenty of Wine depending on your mood and time zone. (Alternatively there is schnapps, smorgasbord and smoked fish).

Everybody is welcome ? share as much or as little as you like ? but no fisticuffs please!

Well, because you love him and you're worried :)

To move a stomach sleeper: say he's face-down on the bed, you're kneelingon the bed by his left side. Lean over him, grab his right arm by the wrist and pull it so it's up (as if he raised his arm over his head by himself). Bend his elbow and pull his arm over to the left, so that for a brief moment, his face is buried in his elbow pit. If you can, reach under and tug the elbow down, so that he ends up lying face-down with his arm under him and sticking out on his left. Then keep pulling on the wrist. This will cause his right shoulder to tuck/roll underneath him. At the same time, get a knee under his left hip/groin area. As you keep pulling on the right arm, he'll start rolling over. Give his hip a good shove upward with your knee. Flop.

Just don't toss him off the bed.

Wondering if the village hall toddlers group is meeting tomorrow since it's only the first day back to school for term (and it follows term schedule). If not, might go to YOUT to the YOUTPrintingHouse bookshop and partnership department store. Though could go there Thursday as Thursday is the one day of the week we don't have a commitment/activity. Hmmmm, what to do with our Wednesday....

Scout19075 · 03/01/2012 22:40

Thanks JM. Had to Grin at tossing him off the bed. I doubt I could it even if he wasn't seizing.

Scout19075 · 04/01/2012 06:22

All was calm last night. MrScout off to work at stupid o'clock this morning (don't know why) and headache free.

I'm sorry I went all crazy last night -- I'm not sure where all of the negative/paranoid thoughts came from. Blush

Jacksmania · 04/01/2012 06:28

IME it usually comes from worry for someone you love :)

I'm glad you had a quiet night. I'm off to bed now! Ny ny.

Scout19075 · 04/01/2012 13:59

You're probably right, JM. I don't panic about medical stuff for me. I was told some potentially scary heart news before I was knew I was pregnant and while people around me (mostly inlaws and some friends) were freaking out/panicking I just shrugged and said "oh well, it's life, I'll deal with it." That's the way I looked at some of this most recent stuff, too. However, when it comes to my two boys I'm not the most rational person. Hmm

Okay, that's a lie -- I've been completely calm, rational and proactive when it comes to Toddler's medical stuff and having him checked over for all of the things he could have possibly been born with thanks to all of my issues. But... when he fell down the steps I was anything but calm and rational. Blush

I was complimented today by how nicely Toddler was behaving in the queue at the Sainbury's cafe. And then by the cashier at how nice it was to hear him say "thank you" (without prompting) when she gave him back my card (he likes to hold cards/money and hand them over when it's time -- the right cashiers will give him cards back). Apparently at her son's school they weren't allowed to say "please" and "thank you" because it was "an ethnically mixed school and some cultures don't encourage those things or use those types of phrases." She said because of it after two years of school and being told not to say it he wouldn't say those things at home or out and about any more. Sad She said he does now that he's older and understands more. But how sad that a small child who's been taught manners at home had all of the parents' hard work undone by school. Sad and Angry

ladies of teh tea room I need your help

When making a G&T
How much G to how much T??

I feel teh need to try something new and have teh 2 principle ingredients in teh house.

beanandspud · 04/01/2012 18:55

Hurrah! At last a question on mn I can answer...

I would usually go 1:2 or 1:3 parts gin to tonic. When DH makes them it is probably closer to half and half Blush!

Don't forget ice cubes and a chunk of lime if you have it.

Cheers! Wine

UniS · 04/01/2012 19:06

I have lemon. suspect there are ice cubes lurking if I break through the frost build up on teh fridge ice box.

I will be baking cakes tonight.

CMOTDibbler · 04/01/2012 19:23

I have more like 1 part gin to 6 parts tonic - but am a lightweight

Scout19075 · 04/01/2012 19:33

I tend to just chuck it all together. Blush

Jacksmania · 04/01/2012 20:09

I'd do a fluid ounce of gin, maybe an ounce and a half (one and a half shot glasses) and 4 oz tonic. Lime, definitely, rather than lemon, and loaded with crushed ice.

Yum.

Am :o at how many of us leaped to answer a question about alcohol.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/01/2012 20:10

While we're talking booze, has anyone got ideas for what to do with sloe gin? Obviously, there's sloe gin and tonic but is there anything that will make the most of its sloeyness?

Scout19075 · 04/01/2012 20:18

Maud, if only I could remember what we did with it in Uni.... When this ol' brain of mine gets into gear I'll let you know!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/01/2012 20:35

Scout! History of Scouts and Guides on BBC4 now!

Scout19075 · 04/01/2012 21:11

Cheers!

It's blowing a gale out there. MrScout's not home yet (after leaving stupidly early) and I just want to bundle up under my comforter in my fleecy 'jammies with a hot chocolate.

beanandspud · 04/01/2012 21:42

How about one of these Maud...

sloe gin cocktails. My vote would be for the champagne and pomegranate one!

Or a plum and sloe gin sorbet

Scout - glad to hear that Mr Scout is ok this morning. And JM, I hope that you are ok too?

It is so windy here too. Just contemplating going to bed with a Brew and my book - it seems horribly early though.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/01/2012 21:48

Those sound delicious, Bean. Thank you!

I think I may take a very early night too, if I can drag myself away from Mamma Mia on the telly.

Scout19075 · 04/01/2012 22:45

MrScout finally home. About an hour late than his already 90 minute late plan. Hmm I had wanted to be in bed/asleep by 10 tonight.

Jacksmania · 05/01/2012 03:06

I see that didn't happen.

Bean, thanks Thanks, I'm ok. Just had a bad day yesterday. I try not to let anything to do with my father bother me, but every so often, I think the hurt little girl inside me comes out and starts wishing it had all been different. I wish my father had been a better man. I can't wish my mum hadn't married him or I wouldn't be here (or, well, a different me might have been here, or I might have been a boy) - I wish he'd been that man my mum deserved, and the father that I deserved. And that ends up turning into one of those ponder sessions that makes your brain hurt :o - you know, if you could go back in time and smother Hitler in his cradle, would you, and what would the world be like now?

Anyway - thanks for caring Thanks.

Scout19075 · 05/01/2012 12:42

It's wild out there. I just want to hide under my covers. Who's for Brew?

amberlight · 05/01/2012 13:12

Please!

beanandspud · 05/01/2012 14:05

Brew yes please!

And Thanks coming your way JM - Some of the others are far better at putting good advice into words to make things better but I can do big ((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) Smile
