The Nordic Tearoom (Number 31)

We have moored the barge for the winter and have moved to a beautiful, cosy log cabin in deepest Scandinavia overlooking a frozen lake and surrounded by pine trees.

Mellors has lit the log fires and candles, it is snowing outside and there are comfortable seats for everyone and fleecy blankets to snuggle up in. For the more active tearoomers there are skis and sledges outside as well as a steaming hot tub for winding down after a busy day.

So pull up a chair. The kettle is on for Brew and there is always plenty of Wine depending on your mood and time zone. (Alternatively there is schnapps, smorgasbord and smoked fish).

Everybody is welcome ? share as much or as little as you like ? but no fisticuffs please!

Scout19075 · 09/12/2011 20:33

Seriously, BRRRR.

UniS · 09/12/2011 20:43

9 radiotherapists hanging on the wall.....

Well done Amber. another one bites the dust.

Scout- I LOVE oreo balls, Boy loves them too, DH likes them, SiL makes them. I have made them and may do again this year. Good call for an all age party as they don;t look like kids party food, but secretly they are. I'll be taking pizza slices to a party on saturday.

Wayhayyyyy the Nordic seem to have taken to sking like the naturalists tehy are.

beanandspud · 09/12/2011 20:59

Xmas Grin at naked skier! Unis, I can't even imagine what you had to google to find that clip?!

Not sure about Oreo balls - I suspect Small Bean would love them as he has a very sweet tooth and given a choice chooses chocolate over daddy every time!

Amber - we are all thinking of you

It's freezing here, the hot tub is lovely though. Anyone for Wine?

Soooo cold and I think slightly tipsy. Blush

Made myself what I thought was a weak-ish cocktail but forgot I put alcohol in the juice and just drank half a mug and it's stronger than I thought. Double Blush.

Scout19075 · 10/12/2011 00:39

Good night, lovely tea room ladies. Sleep well.

(PS: amber, how often do you have chemicals and do you anticipate having any over Christmas?)

Jacksmania · 10/12/2011 05:17

G'night lovelies. I'm for bed pretty soon, too. It's been a busy week.
Knee op next Friday, the 16th. Had final appt w lovely surgeon y'day, we're very much on the same page about what to do which is making me feel slightly less wobbly about the whole thing.

amberlight · 10/12/2011 08:35

Ah, excellent Brew - thanks!

Chemicals - third set yesterday as well as a visit to Larry the Linear Accelerator, so I was totally knackered slightly tired by the evening. No more chemistry lessons until the New Year now, and radiotherapy stops on the 21st, so there will be celebrating/sleeping/something.

Ooo la la re the naked skiing Bishops!

Scout19075 · 10/12/2011 21:06

The ScoutTroop recommend this as a family activity but recommend extra layers of socks.

Yay for the Christmas break, amber! Will you have time off from work to enjoy your chemical-freeness?

Fingers crossed and prayers/thoughts to you, too, JM, for your op on Friday.

CMOTdibbler · 10/12/2011 21:48

Hope it goes well JM - what did they decide needed doing in the end ?

It is cold here. The cats are arguing over who gets to be in front of the fire, and dpony has had his rug upgraded. He is v cute in his fluffy winter coat, though we will speak less of the mud holding capabilities of this

beanandspud · 10/12/2011 22:08

It's blooming cold here too! Please can I have a turn in front of CMOT's fire?

Scout - the forest trail looks absolutely lovely, it's just a shame that it's not a bit closer.

JM - good news about the surgeon and your op (I think?). Will be thinking of you next week.

We went to the forest today to get a real Christmas tree and it looks and smells wonderful!!! Oh, and I booked tickets to take Small Bean to see The Snowman on stage which I am very, very, excited about.

CMOTdibbler · 10/12/2011 22:24

Hmm, if you knew our cats, you'd know that trying to get them to stay on your lap, let alone all together, was a direct route to extreme cruelty to humans.

That sounds lovely Bean. I had intended to go and get a tree tomorrow from the nice place which makes an event of it, but we are forecast for heavy rain all day which is not fun

Scout19075 · 10/12/2011 22:29

CMOT, would they take kindly to being watched by a toddler?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/12/2011 23:24

Oooh, Bean, we saw The Snowman on stage a couple of years ago and it was indeed lovely. Our Christmas treat is going to be Robin Hood at Stratford.

::hands out duvets and hot water bottles to all in need::

Scout19075 · 10/12/2011 23:38

Thanks Maud!

Now I just need a snack.... We had burgers at the forest but I'm hungry again....

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/12/2011 23:41

How about some Twiglets a gogo? The forest thing sounds lovely but we've got no chance of going, alas.

Scout19075 · 10/12/2011 23:55

As long as there are no Twiglets in the Twiglets-a-Gogo.

I could really go for some Chex Mix or some pizza.... No chance of either of those. Sad

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/12/2011 00:06

::Proffers a warming dish of Gogo sans Twiglets::

Chex Mex?

::Displays ignorance::

Scout19075 · 11/12/2011 00:07

Chex Mix

beanandspud · 11/12/2011 10:56

Did I read that right and see a turtle flavoured chex mix? Xmas Confused

:: ponders the use of turtles in tasty snacks::

Brew and carrot muffins anyone?

mistlethrush · 11/12/2011 12:08

I remember the shenanigans trying to fit chemicals in around Christmas.

Didn't work out too badly I don't think... either finished a set on Christmas Eve or started a set just after if I remember correctly. I think we basically cancelled Christmas that year though - although I think I did manage to sing at Castle Howard with friends. Unfortunately that regular booking apparently has ended and another choir is doing it - we probably drank too much!

MC being VERY annoying this morning - going go go and walk him (and the dog) and hope that the exercise helps.

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 11/12/2011 13:22

oo carrot muffins sound very nice!

Hope it's not too cold for you all - don't want you all turning into icicles!

JM - glad you have a date for your knee op, shame it's just before Christmas but better workwise for you I suppose. Will be thinking of you on Friday :)

amber - glad you get a rest from the chemicals and hope that the radiation isn't too wearing yet.

MT - aw, shame about the singing gig! Our choir did the BBC Christmas Concert about 3 years in a row while I was there, and I think had done it before as well, but then that gig suddenly stopped as well - most Xmas Sad
Why is MC so hyper? just cabin fever, is it?

MiniThumb had his dance Showcase today - jazz and tap. I neglected to mention to MrThumb how long the Showcase would be 4h and he was a touch fed up by the end of it but it was worth it - miniT did a grand job, better than I expected judging by his rehearsal standards! Looked great too, big smiles throughout.

I still have bronchitis - doc for me tomorrow, I feel, to get ABs so I can get rid of it before Christmas - still sounding husky and voice fails at high levels (both tonal and volume!)

Spent about half an hour this eve on t'internet looking for a decent Christmas album that had all the necessary cheese songs that I wanted - finally decided that the NOW 2011 Christmas collection was the nearest (and most affordable) - so with a bit of luck I might get it before Christmas. Also put in an order with IWOOT - the delivery was ridiculously cheap but it could take months for it to arrive, I guess - and got a few bits in their sale, even getting extra discount for buying 3 of one thing (colour-changing bath spa lights - I've wanted them for ages...)

How is everyone's Christmas organisation going? I am nearly done - just need to get DH's presents sorted and then that's me, I think. Haven't done cards yet though Xmas Blush - must do them tomorrow. And of course mince pies will be made nearer the time.
