Welcome aboard.

The first rule of the tea room is - No fisticuffs.
The second rule is - Put the kettle on and lets have a Brew or open a bottle of Wine if its that time of day. Pull a sofa and relax. Parents of one, more (or less) children are welcome to hop on board and chat about anything and nothing. Introduce yourself if new and if you name change give us clue please.

sadly not teh same every day, I could handle accompanying a class to a sports festival every day :-) This was a one off, should have been 1-1 with a named child but as they were off today I was just teh 2nd adult on the coach/ with the class. In Dec I do 2 weeks of afternoons 1-1 in adifferent class

Oh no, Donki, that sounds awful. Do donkeys Donkis like carrot-flavoured lozenges?

::Proffers a packet of Special Donki Throat Lozenges::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/11/2011 21:21

By awful, I meant the laryngitis, not the joke! The joke I liked.

Scout19075 · 10/11/2011 22:11

Does anyone know where I've put my Mom's main Christmas present?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/11/2011 22:16

Hmm. Where do you usually stash things for Christmas? Bottom of wardrobe? Top of wardrobe? Airing cupboard? Under your bed? Cupboard in spare bedroom? Garage?

Scout19075 · 10/11/2011 22:18

My inlaws. Grin

Seriously, down there as it's sort of a "staging area" for trips. Trouble is, MrScout got the present when he was in Florida and got home the day before holiday so I'm not sure if it's not here or at the inlaws or where. Hmm

beanandspud · 10/11/2011 23:25

Good evening!

Scout - I'm afraid I can't help. I regularly find things that I had hidden away in a supposed 'safe place' and couldn't find for months.

On a separate note, I suspect it has done the rounds (and it is so, so wrong) but this made me giggle earlier. I am rubbish at fancy dress but...

Thumbwitch · 11/11/2011 03:49

oh dear bean! [guilty Grin]

Scout - can you phone the ILs and ask them if they have it? Would you know where you would have left it if you did leave it there?
And yay! for TS's brilliance :)

Oooh MT is going to be in Amber area for orchestral manoeuvres in the dark - exciting!

Amber - has your blood pressure been checked? I know that you are under close medical supervision etc. because of the drugs, and BP might be the last problem, but it could be contributing to the nosebleeds if it's a little high.

Donki - boo to laryngitis! I've had it a couple of times and it's most unfunny. Hope it goes soon.
And JM and Maud - get better soon!

UniS - hurrah for a nice first day as a TA! Hope it continues to be fairly unstrenuous.

I am also rubbish wrt to Christmas presents. Am quite cross with myself for ordering Aliens Like Underpants from Amazon (my order arrived yesterday - woohoo!) and then finding a boxed board-book version with softy alien that I had bought some months ago and forgotten about Blush. The only potential saving grace is that the amazon version is a paper book, not a board one - and there might be more pages in the paper one (not sure). And if they're identical then we can lose the board book version in another year - pass it on to someone else, and he can keep the paper one. Still feeling a bit [fick] though. Blush

mistlethrush · 11/11/2011 10:11

I regularly lose things - but that's because I really need to have a good go at minimalisation. If I could get quarter of the way there, it would be a good start. Things like having 2 pianos in the dinning room doesn't help - because we can't therefore fit in a bookcase to take the music - which is therefore in heaps on the floor... the fact that I asked DH to arrange the return of the other piano 2.5yrs ago whilst he was unemployed, and reminded him when he started mainly working from home after Christmas is somewhat galling.

Unserp hello! You can always just put the Brew on if you've not got anything much to say, I would never say no to a Brew (unless its the evening and there's Wine on offer... or its been a particularly bad day Blush) MC's nice teacher is ill today and he's got last years' instead. He's only got to manage 5 hrs of good behaviour for them to get all of his golden time - I hope he manages it!

There was a bookfair at school this morning and as we got there late, I had a chance to look round whilst waiting to go up to the classroom (normally goes to before school care). Picked up an Olga de Polga book which has the most wonderful illustrations. Accidentally read up to chapter 4 in the car before going into work Blush

Thumbwitch · 11/11/2011 12:40

Oh I love Olga da Polga! Are they the original pics, same as the original Paddington Bear? (Can't remember if Michael Bond illustrated them himself or not)
I wish I had the Olga da Polga books - I don't - but I do have the full set of Paddington Grin

Hope MC makes it through the day and the old teacher doesn't cast any negativity his way...

mistlethrush · 11/11/2011 12:43

I don't know if they're original - I'll try to post the illustrator later - but they are delightful - have things like dandilion seeds drifting around some pages....

CMOTdibbler · 11/11/2011 12:50

I've got a full set of Olga Da Polga, and I adore them too !

amberlight · 11/11/2011 13:08

Ah yes, my blood pressure is checked and is ok. Well, it wasn't when I was in A&E, but it was before and afterwards, and they said it was hardly surprising that it went up, really. And all the blood thingies are ok too. It's definitely the herceptin, it seems. Oh well. Only another year to go.

Brew? Soup du Boat avec les rolls tres sail-like?

Thumbwitch · 11/11/2011 13:16

Tres bon, amber, merci!

Buggeration re. the nosebleeds just being because of the drug then. :( Are they suggesting iron supplements to keep your iron levels up? because if they do, can I recommend you don't take the ferrous sulphate that is normally prescribed as it can have a shocking effect on your bowels - get some ferrous citrate from a health food shop instead, it's better absorbed and doesn't have the same nasty side effects. :) And heaven knows you don't need any more nasty side effects!

mistlethrush · 11/11/2011 13:23

This is the one we got this morning Thumb

Amber - at least its nothing else to worry about and you know what it is causing it - still not good though - have they suggested anything yet?

Yes please to soup and rolls.

Thumbwitch · 11/11/2011 13:26

Well, there you go, all of them are available on Amazon (6 books) and I have now ordered them all and get free delivery because it is over £25! Yay! Only just - cost me £27. Average of £4.50 each, which isn't that painful, considering. And miniThumb rather loves guineapigs so will be very happy with them when he's older and if he's not I'll enjoy reading them anyway Grin

UniS · 11/11/2011 13:30

morning all, kettle is on for post lunch Brew

I am procrastinating. Have a list of 6 admin ish things to do... must get on with them.

Thumbwitch · 11/11/2011 13:30

Ahh, different illustrator from the ones I've got - mine I think are the originals, Hans Helweg, who I have just discovered did not do the Paddington bear books, that was Peggy Fortnum. So now you know! Grin

mistlethrush · 11/11/2011 13:32

Its is only me that remembers the Mary Plain books with great affection?

CMOTdibbler · 11/11/2011 13:37

You are not alone there Mistle Grin

Thumbwitch · 11/11/2011 13:51

Can't say I've ever heard of those, MT! Blush

Have any of you heard of these fabulous characters, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie? Or these, Bottersnikes and Gumbles? I had both of these as a child (and still do, praise be, given the price that the latter book is now fetching!)
Somehow I get the feeling it was my fate to end up in Australia... I was groomed for it from the age of 3, when I got the Snugglepot and Cuddlepie book. Grin

mistlethrush · 11/11/2011 14:17

No, those are unfamiliar to me Thumb as far as I can remember - although i did read my way round the mobile libarary, the local town library, and my mother was just having to start travelling into the large associated town instead to access children's books I hadn't read by the time we moved when I was 10. So I could have forgotten it.

Mary Plain books, as I remember, were really good to read - will dig them out for mistlechick as they're easier I think than Paddington.

And if you see the Gerrald Durrel book 'The Talking Parcel' that's really good for children too - last time I looked it was out of print so it would have to be a 2nd hand bookshop find.

Thumbwitch · 11/11/2011 14:20

To be fair, I highly doubt that Snugglepot and Cuddlepie was published outside Australia - but Bottersnikes and Gumbles was a Puffin book, so you might have come across that. An English friend of mine who now lives in Toronto, Canada (as opposed to Toronto, NSW) had the book as a child as well. If you ever see that in a second hand bookshop/charity shop, snap it up. :)

Jacksmania · 11/11/2011 14:43

Well, butter my buns and call me a biscuit - I never knew there was a Toronto in New South Wales. That'll stop me raising my eyebrows and asking "as opposed to anywhere else?" when people say "oh, you're from Toronto, Ontario?" Blush

Got through yesterday. Was high as a kite on cold medication most of the day but at least wasn't sneezing on anyone.

DS was at grandma's yesterday and I picked him up and we left for home around 7. He was asleep in minutes - and you all know his sleeping habits so I was praying he wouldn't wake up at 4 am and want to get up. Thankfully he made it to 6 am. I had a restless night - too much pseudoephedrine in my system I think!
